    My Trip Report

and that was my downfall, and the only really interesting part of my trip last monday through friday the 1st of august.

got on the monday allegiant flight out of montana, for a business trip to the furniture market in las vegas, buying home accessories and decor for our retail store. flight was uneventful, except for the not tiny me sitting next to a former college offensive lineman who had put on more weight since graduation. good thing there was a little girl in the windowseat, madison lowered the average weight in our row to somewhere around 260, but i did not notice if the plane tilted.

luggage came off the carousel quickly, i went out and got on a shuttle, and it started moving quickly, and the hilton was the second stop, so all was smooth so far. short line at checkin, and then it happened...

checkin person informed me, at about 10pm, 11pm on my body clock after a day of work, that they had no clean rooms, but i could either wait three hours for one, OR...they would comp me the first night of my four night stay, give me a 50 dollar coffee shop comp, a spa pass, and i could sleep, and immediately check in to, the living room portion of one of their suites!

i was not about to wait three hours, and suite and free sounded good at the time, so up to the 29th floor i went. entered the foyer, floor to ceiling windows 40 feet wide in front of me, on the right a wet bar and through to walk in closet the size of my living room, on the left a large room with sink and vanity, and through i another good sized space with the toilet and a phone. through to the middle of the suite, a sofa which did not make out into a bed, plus a love seat and chair and coffee table and the tv cabinet, on the other side of the suite a dining room table and four chairs, right by the windows out onto the deck, a desk and chair, AND a cot, about 5'8" long.

i just started laughing, here i was in las vegas in a suite, alone, with a cot to sleep on, called my wife and told here the story, she told me i was getting what i deserved and laughed along with me.

hung up, went down to play a little and wander the hilton casino, had not eaten, so decided to use the comp, however it was just past eleven, and the coffee shop had went to its limited menu, so there was no way to use the comp that night, i just said the hell with it and went to bed. tossing and turning, a little apprehension about a new market to attend the next morning at 6:30, and at that point where a person is too tired to drop off, if you know what i mean. sit up, grab the watch, its 1:30 am. think maybe if i hop in a hot shower it would help...wait, i dont remember seeing a shower??? went exploring, there was no shower or tub! apparently it was in the bedroom? since the spa was closed, and opened again at 7, after i was going to be on the shuttle bus, no shower for me until i got back and got room changed the next afternoon. finally about 2:30made up my mind that i had to get some sleep, but when 6 am, 5 am on my body clock arrived, i was ready to get up.

definitely not the way to start off a business trip, an allnighter without any fun attached, but that the way it was.

probably will post a little more on the trip, but it being solo and business not too much to report meal wise, and no shows, because i had missed the free rod stewart concert that was the kick off for the market by about 3 hours!

I would have asked for a change of linen to be delivered to the room and made the bed myself.

just to finish up what was not a real eventful trip.

did the trade show from opening time to about 3 in the afternoon both tuesday and wednesday, the 3 big buildings down behind the plaza is where the new wholesale furniture center of the universe is, open to the trade only, and millions of square feet of home furnishings. luckily we had free shuttle busses to and from the hotels, and could take walkways between the buildings, the heat hardly came into play at all.

dining was using my coffee shop comp at the hilton, still couldn't spend the 50 bucks in one meal there, even with the two beers, calamari, ribs, and dessert. also had a couple dinner buffets there at the hilton, perfectly adequate. only nice meal was on my free day, thursday, and had the businessmans lunch, the filet, at the palm restaurant in the forum shops. that was great as usual, and very much enjoyed the gin and tonic that must have been a 5 ounce pour of tangueray, with a full bottle of tonic water brought along with to make it the strength a person wants. add on a piece of key lime pie, of course, and it no longer is a 19 dollar lunch, but still a relative value to what a person would pay for the same meal at dinner time there or at any other of the better steakhouses.

played in two poker tourneys thursday at caesars, both 65 to buy in, with a 5 dollar add on to get 2500 in chips rather than 2000. one at 9 am, the other at 3pm. made it to the final two tables, from three in the morning, and the final three of five in the pm, but really made some mistakes, was not aggressive, or rested, enough, though on both hands that put me out i had played them correctly and just got outflopped. point is, i should have had more chips on hand in both cases, and had played some hands wrong leading up to that point.

although this was mostly business, i do get to go back, with the bride this time, for the clothing shows starting august 24th, so i am t-20! even better, in my mail when i got back to the shop, a postcard from the venetian, where we will attend a couple of the clothing shows anyway, for two free nights! called and booked them, cancelled the gold coast for those same nights. after the two nights at the venetian, we will move down to the golden nugget for the last two nights, and our tickets for CHER are already paid for. this trip will be lots more fun!

1/2 a suite? I. too, would have called housekeeping for linen and just made the bed myself. You gotta strike a balance between work and play so you're well rested for those poker tourneys.

I have never heard of anyone getting just the living room portion of suite before! Bizarre! But interesting....

Yeah...the first night of that trip sounded like a Twilight Zone kinda deal. A cot in the living room. Weird.
But nothing like T-20 to smooth over the bumpy trip. Be sure and report back on the upcoming "work" trip.

just to clear one thing up, and that is that there was linen on the cot. i did toy with the idea of taking it off the cot and making a nest on the couch, but at that point just said the hell with it.

really would not have been that big a deal on a strictly fun trip, because i probably would have been down in the casino most of the night, rather than trying to get some sleep to be fresh for morning!
