4 days at the Mirage

I'd sat on my patio for about 100 evenings watching the airplanes overhead. Every one heading South West, I imagined was heading to Las Vegas. I thought about that while I was on the plane, finally heading there myself.

No problems getting there, and to the Mirage, or checking in, getting to the room, finding our way to the casino, and starting to drink (Jack and Coke). We gambled for several hours and then went to bed. After about a 1/2 hour of laying there, I remembered that Coke keeps me awake...and wondered why the hell I was in bed before midnight in Las Vegas anyhow.

So we went back downstairs. I was playing VP, and at about 2AM I got a RF. The machine had dealt me all but the Queen - $1000. This was my 15th Royal Flush, but my first in Vegas. I figured it was about due...but the VP players here know that "figuring" on RF's is kinda silly.
You also know that having 15 Royals isn't about luck...but volume.

We gambled mostly at the Mirage, and that's (not coincidently) where we had the most luck. Neither me or my wife hit any other big jackpots, but we seemed to usually play for a long time on what we took down to the casino each time. We also didn't come home broke, and I think that's a Vegas first for us.

anyhow..

My 50th birthday came and went in a blur of Elton John, alcohol, gambling, and sex..(but mostly gambling and alcohol) which was the intended purpose of this trip.

At the end, the hotel comped us 1 night, all the meals we'd charged to the room, and gave us a free 6PM checkout. I would stay there again.

On the flight home, the drunk lady in front of us vomited all over her seat and the side of the plane..and that makes a real nice end-of-trip memory.

Ok...time to do the laundry.
Our 17 year old son (who stayed home this trip) was nice enough to leave us his to do today too.

 

piper - thanks for the report. Did the drunk vomiting lady start a chain reaction? That would make for a gnarly flight home!

Almost a chain reaction!
The stewardess gagged when she first responded to the call light. Then she got the lady some wet paper towels from the lavatory...and gagged again when she handed them to her.

Another stewardess opened several bags coffee, and placed the bags around the "area"... After that it smelled more like coffee-vomit than booze-vomit.

I didn't think you'd be back yet. I have lots to do today (laundry and a long nap)...as I'm sure you do, but I hope you'll find time soon for your TR, and how you didn't chicken out!

 

Glad your trip was a good one (minus the flight home!). And I"m especially glad your 17-year-old didn't break any bones while you were gone. :evillaugh

Glad it was a good trip and thanks for the report. Congrats on the win ... and I agree about the Mirage and being able to play for a loooonnnggg time.

Now I get to wonder where the people on the planes are headed ... wishing it was me.

I told you we wouldn't, and we didn't play any $25 slots...

But on a "1 to 100" video poker machine (I'd never seen them before...and I'd had a drink or 2), I put a $20 in...but nothing showed up on the screen. I thought maybe I'd forgotten to put any money in..so I put in another $20...still nothing. Then I (finally) see them registered as credits on one corner of the machine. I was confused so I hit "cash out"..nothing, hit "deal"..nothing... So I hit "max bet"...

that's when I learned what "1 to 100" meant!

I'd just bet $40 on one hand of video poker.

Dealt me a pair of 2's, and I drew nothing.

I felt kinda stupid...but it was exciting (for a few seconds anyhow) to have made the largest single VP bet of my life. It was the also the last time I ventured to that bank of machines.

 

I have never seen a 1-100 machine either, how do you tell? I know some of the machines at Bellagio at the quarter level are 10 coin machines so I try to avoid them. We are staying at Mirage for two nights in 13 days or so any tips? I love VP but have never played it there.
Did you get a remodeled room? Any tips on that? I have never checked into the invited guest line and will be doing so this trip, will they upgrade?
Thanks for the TR and congrats on the Royal, I can only dream of hitting one in Vegas. So far I only have one and that was in Tunica.....They have since gotten all their money back plus some.

 

I always put a twenty into the 100 play machines. The ones that I play are of the penny variety.
Saw IllMarty hit for some nice money when it dealt him four of a kind.

this was a $1 "1-100" play that I had $40 in, and had it let me draw the other 2 deuces...well... I won't think about that!

The "1-100" VP machines say "1-100" on them. They are however the same grey/green as most the other VP machines that are multi-denomination, and have the same lettering. You won't have a hard time telling them apart.

We did not get (or ask for) a remodeled room. We booked a Deluxe Tower room. It was on the 30th floor overlooking the volcano. Which of course wasn't working... had it been, we'd have probably not had that room. They did however put us in a remodeled room on the last day because of a computer problem. Something in there (carpet/paint/wood finish?) made my eyes burn...but I'm pretty sensitive to that kinda thing. It was definitely nice though.

..and all I know about the invited guest line...is that it was empty the whole time we were in our (long) not-an-invited-guest line!

I hope you have a great trip...I wish I was going with you.

These 1 to 100 machines aren't the same thing as "100 play" machines, where you actually get 100 poker hands.

The 1-100 refers to how much you can bet (on one hand).

Someday maybe I'll bet $100 on a single hand...and hopefully it'll be on purpose!
