    My Trip Report

Since I was in Vegas for 2 weeks, the report will take a while. But something occurred that I can't get out of my head and I wanted to post it now.

On my second day, July 1st, I had agreed to meet with friends of a friend for a buffet dinner. I had never met or spoke with them before. I travel solo and usually don't mingle much so this was not the norm for me. I made the call to new friends and they wanted to meet at the Palace Station because the buffet was under $8 with their card. No problem. 5:30 dinner time is set.
The mother and daughter team were friendly and full of life. Mom was originally from Minnesota and both spoke with great volume and "YAH! was interjected at the end of each sentence. When they laughed, they literally filled the room with laughter...even when talking about having the stomach flu and "...letting it fly from both ends!!" By this time, I'm laughing just because of the situation. I'm not so sure the diners around us were so amused.

They found out that I did not know anything about CRAPS so they wanted to "teach" me. I agreed to observe but not play. They each went to one end of the table and are consistently yelling out the rules of CRAPS to me. All of this while the table is completely full of players very aware of the rules. Now mom is rolling the dice. " WATCH THIS...YAHHHH!!!" And this is the woman who carries her belongings in a furry black bear stuffed animal backpack. Each time she leans over the table to roll, the furry black bear pops into sight and appears to stare down the players. I'm wrapped in laughter at this time. I'm guessing the players think I'm stoned.

Now this is the part that caught me by surprise. As we walk through the casino and past slots, the daughter reaches over and picks up a players card laying next to a slot. She looks at it and sticks it into one of the machines and continues walking. I saw the first name on the card and said, "Was that your card?" Yes, it was. I shrugged and followed her.
Later, she did the same thing but only at a different machine. Then she reaches in her purse pulls out a small stack of cards and stick in a couple more cards in two more machines. O.K. that's it! I gotta know!
Well, "That's the way we do it in Las Vegas!" Do what?
Gather points. Seems as though the mother-daughter team stuff the machines with their players' cards and those players who do not use a card ...play on the Minnesota team's cards. They tell me that they have tens of thousands of points and get offers for free room and food all over town. They've stayed in suites at many of the Harrah's and Station hotels.
At one time the mom was playing a Deal or NO Deal slot and turned to the woman playing next to her and asked, "Do you mind if I put my card in your slot?" The lady seemed slightly irritated but said yes. Mom slides her card in without hesitation and says loudly, "Thanks so much...GOOD LUCK TO YOU, Yahh!"

That's what they do for fun at night. No small kids at home and dad is at home retired watching t.v., so the girls hit the crap tables while racking up points off of strangers. YAAAAHH!
Something tells me that this is not the norm.

But anyway, the night wraps up by mom asking me do I like frozen yogurt. I reply yes. Before I know what happened, Mom tells daughter to head on home and that she'll just ride with me to the new frozen yogurt place because she's got a 2-for-1 coupon for yogurt that she wants to share with me!! Yah!
About 30 minutes later and a wild ride on the interstate, we locate the yogurt store.
My casual dinner with new friends ends up being an all nighter till about midnight.
And that was not a bad thing. It's an experience that I would have never guessed was in store for me.
$8 buffet, cheap yogurt, stuffed bears and crap tables. Don't you just love Vegas? YAAAHHH!

You are right -- that is not the norm and is pretty bizarre! What a scream, though! Yah!

Looking forward to the rest of your TR!
