Had good luck at the Golden Nugget!

    My Trip Report

Just got back from our mini-Vegas vacation. Just had a two-nighter at the Golden Nugget and won! Together, hubby and I won about $2k there on slots, and had good luck on the machines in Fitzgerald's and the Fremont. The hotel was lovely, and except for very worn-out carpeting, our room was fine. With the shark tank in the pool area, I can understand why this place is a favorite for couples with younger children.

We always stay at different hotels when we come, and usually we stay on the strip. I must say...I enjoyed myself downtown! The Fremont Street light show was a tribute to Queen...there were live bands playing, and street performers performing. It was a great party atmosphere. We ate for practically nothing, having signed up for all the various players clubs...the only meal I wouldn't do again was the steak and lobster special at Tony Roma's (but what can you expect for $11.99?)

We'd like to do the downtown thing again in a month or so. Could someone recommend a comparable hotel to the GN? Doesn't have to be hugely fancy...mostly I worry about it being clean and quiet. Any suggestions?

    Nancy

The Nugget is really tops downtown but the next best rooms IMHO, are at Main Street Station. I imagine some of the other places like the Four Queens have suites that are as nice as the Nugget rooms but I'm not sure you you can just book them, they might be based on play only.

I'm a big fan of Fremont Street too. After 11 trips to LV we stay there almost every year now.

I'd just stay at GN again:thumbsup: I've gotten some great summer offers from them this year--with your play (and the sucky economy) you might get a great rate to stay there again:peace:

If you want quiet and downtown, I wouldn't recommend MSS. The one side of their hotel is adjacent to the interstate. GN is tops downtown and nothing else is very close.

Congrats on the gambling. Glad you enjoyed the downtown experience. Hope your next trip is just as enjoyable.

I heard other folks mention this but when we stay there we request a room on a high floor and never heard a thing even on the interstate side. You guys must have super human hearing.

Yes, my husband mentions my super hearing powers also. :) I love to stay at Main Street Station but I take ear plugs. It is noisy, from the Interstate and the trains. I always request a room facing the Plaza, it is a little better.

Congrats on your win; unfortunately, I can't help you on a comparable place to stay downtown.

I typically stay at Main Street Station. If you request a higher floor, facing the Plaza, on the east side you can mitigate the noise from the interstate or trains. The trains have bothered me on lower floors on the west side, but never on upper floors on the east side.

IMO, Main Street is the closest you are going to get to GN. That being said, I wouldn't expect GN. MSS is clean and quiet and my "home away from home" when I go downtown, but its still a far cry from GN. Another issue some people have with MSS is the location off Fremont. Its connected to the Cal via a bridge, which is just a crosswalk from the Vegas Club, but still a walk.

All that being said, its an absolute great value for the price and very little action gets nice mailers, even for non locals.

Actually I have suffered some hearing loss in my old age. The one time I stayed there the fan motor was running full blast when we walked in and we cou;d still hear the noise. I love the casino but only stayed there one time because of the noise in the room.

I have to agree about the MSS. I just stayed there 7-11-08 till 7-13-08 and had a nice quiet time. The 777 Brew Pub is a great place to eat and drink. The staff is nice and they have great Video Poker. I saw at least 4 Royal Flushes being won around me while I was playing. It is a slight walk from Freemont but it is worth it. No funk smell at MSS.

    Love a winning trip!

    Two grand!!
I'd be loving all over downtown also if that kind of cash had come my way!
But really, I enjoy the Golden Nugget with its small casino and access to the rest of downtown.
Vic & Anthony's is always a must when I visit.
    Thanks for reporting!

Congrats on finding those lucky machines. I have also had good luck at Fremont playing slots.
