Golden Nugget 7/1-7/3 Sharks!!!

Our granddaughter is with us for 4 weeks every summer, and this year she wanted to swim with the sharks at the GN.
TUESDAY
We got there about 1:30 on Tuesday 7/1 thinking that the whole afternoon we could spend at the pool swimming with the sharks, well, as soon as we get there, we notice a sign outside of the pool "pool closing at 2:00, for private event".
Try and explain this to a 7 1/2 year old. That shot that. Nobody at the front desk was aware of this happening until that morning. Had we been told at time of reservation, I would have moved us 1 day later. Then that same event did fireworks from the top floor of the parking garage. We didn't find out about them until later after check in. So it was too late to move to a room with a view for the fireworks, or to a quieter room. we weren't given a choice.
We were hoping for the north tower as I have heard/read it is better, but they put us in the south tower way in the back we had a room w/ 2 full size beds. Needed a golf cart to get to the room from the elevator. What a hike for Ciara's tiny legs. Ate dinner in the buffet, was good and tasty, but, still in a bummer mood with the pool being closed.
WED
Ciara and grandma got up early and went to the carson street cafe for breakfast then to the pool.
The pool officially opens at 10:00 am. We were there at 9:15 to make sure we had some chairs.
Ciara was the first kid down the water slide.
All was fun until the sun starting getting a bit brutal. So grandpa and I decided to check into renting the day bed. So we did that and it was great. Although Ciara didn't use it much as she was busy in the "best pool ever". Grandpa and I enjoyed the shade. The pool side servers didn't know who we were while sitting in the regular chairs and then as soon as we were in the day bed, they were extremely attentive.
Ate lunch pool side and Ciara only took a small break for that and back in the water she went.
She went down the slide 24 times.
at 5:45 pm all the lifegaurds told everyone to get out of the water.
We watched until 6:00 to see what was going on and finally asked and apparently someone (adult) vommitted in the pool and they have to get clearance from the board of health before they can let anyone back in the water.
So up to the room we went and by then Ciara was showing fatigue,,, big time....
showered her up and went down for some quick dinner in the Carson Street cafe. Food was very good and Ciara was falling asleep. Score.... Pool 1, Ciara 0
THUR
Grandma was up at 4:00 AM and showered and downstairs by 5:00 am to do some last minute gaming and get some coffee before the others woke up.
Contributed $40 to the economy.
Before check out, I took Ciara with me to the players desk to see if we qualified for any comps.. and the lady behind the players desk informed me that "she" ie.. Ciara ,can't be in this area as it is a gaming area, I proceded to tell her that I just wanted them to run the comps as we are checking out very soon. They wouldn't even listen to me, so I tossed our player cards and room keys in the air and walked away.
checked out at 8:20

and asked to speak to the hotel manager as we were very upset about the pool being closed the first day with no notification and no notification about the fireworks. and of course the way I was treated at the players desk.

He comped the day bed. and apparently the players desk people picked up our cards because he said we had all of our food comped by the players booth.

OVERALL OPINION

We think is a nice hotel, and the rooms are very Treasure Island ish... but, with full size beds.
The salt water pool is to die for. Not much shade in the mid day...

Great rates on the rooms for a quicky run away to entertain the granddaughter.
Overall customer service and eagerness to please the customer... I would give it a 4, with 10 being best.
The south tower is a huge, long, haul from the casino or the pool, or anywhere else for that matter.
Will stay there again next year when she is visiting, only for the pool and the North tower.
Daybeds/cabana's are the only way to go when planning on spending the entire day at the pool. Well worth the $$$.

You realize that casinos can lose their license for violations like that, right? But you were childish enough to throw things at them for trying to uphold their POSTED regulations?

Quite frankly, I'm amazed you were comped for that behavior. But I'm glad your granddaughter enjoyed the pool

Sorry, but shame on you. These people were only doing their job. I deal with the public everyday, and when they behave like you did, the only reaction from my employees and myself is "What an A hole." When you don't like the way you are treated, I believe its much classier to walk away, and show your displeasure by not patronizing the establishment again, and telling people about what happen.

 

I do think its ridiculous that she couldn't be near the players desk, I understand why they did it. It could have been handled better on both ways

And I think its awesome that you took your Granddaughter to the Shark pool. I really want to stay there one day specifically to swim in that pool. And I'm in my twenties

May not have been the best thing to do but I think at that point it was the straw that broke the camels back, so I do understand it. I ended up in a situation very close to that one time when the hotel 'forgot' it was leap year and double booked all their hotel rooms. (not in Vegas).

Tossing the cards was still definitely better than going off on an R or worse rated tirade in front of granddaughter. It at least got you both out of the situation and got you out of a situation that could have ended up in a shouting match or worse.

Isn't their player's desk kind of at the start of a hallway area? or am I thinking of a different downtown casino? If it is, I would have expected you could have her with you there. If it is in the middle of the gaming floor, then I can understand them not allowing her - however, it would have been just as easy for them to say 'I'm sorry, she can't be in this area - can the two of you wait over "pick a spot - check-out desk maybe" and we will bring the cards and information over to you when we have checked it out? Obviously you had made it clear what you were inquiring about.

 

Sorry things didn't go as planned. Pool sounds great! As far as your blow up...been there...done that..I don't judge. I always enjoy your posts.

 

I always enjoy your posts, too. Sounds like GN was a comedy of errors there for awhile. Glad your granddaughter enjoyed the pool so much! We have a $49 offer there (and a $40 one from Main Street Station), and now I can't decide which to choose! It's only for one night, so I know I'll be fine either way.

 

That pool sounds great I'm sure both my kids would love it, maybe we'll check it out next time we go!! Too funny she was falling asleep at dinner, but that's awesome you guys were at the pool ALL DAY she'll prob remember that forever!

It is hard to believe a veteran Nevada visitor thought it was OK for a minor to be in a slot club booth line.

GN did goof it up with the pool closing. They need to realize that their pool is now a prime reason to stay at GN.

 

The player's club booth at GN is right on the edge of the casino, next to the bathrooms (that might be a hallway you're envisioning) but it's smack dab in the middle of a section of slot machines, so it is not at all separated from the casino.
