    My Trip Report

I am going to start with some of the pics, because I am too lazy and too tired to type a bunch at this moment. I've tried to type a really detailed report one time before and I ended up never finishing it and probably boring you all in the process. This one will be different and I will probably have most of it done by tomorrow.

Below are some of the pics. My friend is staying with us in Austin and we can't get his camera to work without the drivers and we can't get the Olympus website to work right to DL the drivers. So, you'll have to wait for some of the better pics.

    Flights:

We flew out Sunday around 12pm from Austin, direct on SWA. The flight was smooth and we arrived in Vegas around 1pm.

We departed Vegas Thursday around 7pm, still on SWA, and we were in Austin around midnight. This flight was a little bumpy and there was a very nice lighting storm, that was a real treat to see.

    Hotels:

Mirage - I emailed a host a few months back and he set us up with the rooms without any play at the Mirage. I was happy that he was able to do that, but it meant that we would be taking a cab to the Hotel and everything else would be reviewed after we left. To be honest, I don't think me being a regular player here would bring me much more than my rooms, it's just that I am used to more generous comps at the Excal.

We received an updated room on the 16th floor, it had a good view, but it would have been even better if the Volcano wasn't under construction. Flat screen, stocked fridge, robes, Sealy Posturepedic beds, it was more than adequate for us.

Excalibur - My GF just loves the potato soup at the Sherwood Forest Cafe, and she has to have it every trip. She also told me that if we went on this trip, that I would be paying for everything, even her gaming budget. So, it was a no brainer for me to book the Excal widescreen room that came with freeplay and dinning credits. We were going to let our friend stay in the room, but he never stayed there, as it would be too much trouble to meet up with us everyday.

The widescreen rooms are nice, but the decor is not on par with the Mirage. However, I would not hesitate to take these for free over paying casino rate for the Mirage, if it ever came to that.

    Shows:

We were going to see the Rat Pack Is Back and Vinny Favorito, again, but we didn't get around to it. The only show we stopped to see was the Bellagio water show, but the winds forced them to cancel the show.

    Food:

I like to have at least one nice meal on every trip, however, our friend really doesn't care about where he eats. Also, my GF is a super picky eater, she doesn't eat fruits, veggies, seafood and a host of other foods due to texture or something. I don't know, I just go along with it. We can usually find a nice place that has something she will order on the menu, but fine dinning wasn't meant to be on this trip.

Cravings - The brunch buffet was very poor. The crab legs were not cracked, no flavor to any of the food, and most everything was cold. We went back for dinner and it was much better. They had the King crab legs and they were cracked, much better selection and the flavor was finally there.

Toby's Bar and Grill - I had the chili burger, GF had the burger quesadillas and our friend had some other big ass burger. My burger was really good and everyone enjoyed what they had. The bartenders at this place were crazy, they even set off a fire-alarm and then squirted each other with water. It was my first time here and I will be back.

Sherwood Forest - I had a cup of potato soup and a shrimp po boy, and I don't remember what everyone else had. Mine was good for cafe food.

Magnolias - Burgers and a pitcher of IPA. Good stuff.

Mirage room service - Pizza and mimosa's. I was very drunk at the time, however, I think it was really good.

Pizza place - This is in the little food court next to Harrahs. I forgot the name of the place. If you want a fattening, greasy, but good pie, then this is your place.

We also had Auntie Anne's and some other stuff, but I am tired of typing about food.

    Gaming:

I usually play Blackjack 80% of the time, poker about 19.9% and I drop a bill in a $5 slot to make up my last .01% of play. Usually BJ is very bad to me, poker is good to me and my bill gets eaten up by the slot machine. Everything was much different on this trip. I probably played BJ about 25% of the time, poker about 25% of the time and slots about 50% of the time. BJ was very good to me, poker was very bad to me, and the slots were close to break even and very fun.

    Still to come.........

Detailed gaming report and odds & ends.

Thanks for reading my boring shit.

Your boring shit isn't boring. I even laughed out loud when I read that! Thanks for the info and the smile.

We didn't like Cravings, either. We've not been to Toby's, but we'll go for sure next month now. Thanks for the tip.

I'll look forward to the rest of your TR.

Thanks for the kind comments.. Here is the last part:

Back to the gaming..... I have to be very careful at the tables, as I've been prone to losing a lot of my bankroll during my 1st session at the tables. It has a lot to do with my drinking. However, bankroll conservation is something that I have made great strides on improving. You might think I should stay away from Vegas, but whatever. It's earmarked gaming money and not bill money or anything like that. My GF now makes me give her some of my roll to keep just incase I lose it all quickly.

This was not all continuous, as we did eat and have breaks in the action. Also, I do buy-in for 20 reds and this is my toking money for the dealers and cocktail ladies. I tip during the game and will throw anything less than blacks to the dealer when I color up. I don't want to come off as a stiff in this TR.

    Day 1:

You can't buy alcohol in Texas before noon on a Sunday, so there was no airport drinking and I didn't have one drink on the plane. This probably helped out a bit. Also, instead of going straight to the tables, I went and found a slot machine to play. Lost a few bucks but nothing too bad.

I finally made my way to a Mirage single deck BJ table and bought in for a grand. I usually will buy in for more and bet $200 a hand, press bets, chase my losses, rebuy and all that great stuff. I was going to flat bet $100 this whole trip and walk away when I was up and not rebuy if I lost it all during that session. I was at 3rd base during this session and I was on a nice roll when my GF came to the table and said that our room was ready. I walked away up about $500.

After we hung out in the room for a bit, we all made our way down to the casino. I gave my GF some money for the slots and my friend and I found the same single-deck BJ table, and the good dealer was back at the table. Bought back in for the same amount and played for an hour or so and colored up about $200 ahead.

Played some slots, nothing to really write home about, but I was having fun with these things.

I found a let-it-ride table and bought in for $500. Played greens, never even hit 10's or better and cut my losses at $250.

Went to the cashier right behind the tables, in a slot area and decided to stick a bill in a $5 slot. I cashed out for about $300. At least that made up for my let-it-ride.

We had two more BJ sessions at the Mirage during this 1st day. The last one was kind of brutal. Dealer showing a 6 and turning a 21, followed by BJ for the dealer and so on. I was down my buy-in in less than 20 hands.

I thought it would be a good time to hit the poker room room up, so I bought in for $500 at 2/5 NL game. I was so card dead it wasn't even funny. There had to be a stretch of 30 hands where I didn't even see paint. This was a juicy table, but I couldn't catch anything to get paid on. People we're betting and calling $200+ with ace high. Going all-in with full stacks with KJ. The straddles were on and people were making it a ton to the see the flop. Blinds, tokes and paying $35+ to see a flop with middle pairs cost me a lot.

Hit a few more slots and then called it a night. There was this one machine that I hit a bonus on and got to roll the dice up the hamburger and it paid a little over $100. Hit a Top Dollar bonus and the final offer was for $25 or $35.

After BJ, Slots, let-it-ride, poker and my GF's slot money, I am down about $800.

    Day 2

We head downtown very early in the morning. The first casino we gamble at is Binions. I buy-in for $200 at the BJ table, play $10 a hand and get to drink free for a while. After the tokes and stuff, I color up two blacks. Play a few slots and walk away $100 ahead. By the way, I think the casino makeover looks great. I had a really good time here.

We go to La Bayou to get the yard long Jungle Juices and they give us some beads and free drink tickets, making me feel obligated to put a few bucks in the machine. Ran $50 through the quarter machines and do not recall hitting ANYTHING!. We drank our free drink and then bought our yard longs and we were out the damn door.

Next we headed down to the Las Vegas club and we played nothing but slots. I found a penny machine and played 20 lines x 5, I think? I hit a three different bonus games and cashed out a little over $100. My friend was playing a Sopranos penny machine and hit for 1200 pennies also.

Fitzgeralds was our last stop and I wish we would have passed it by. We all bought in for $200 at the BJ table and we were done in very quickly. Playing $10-$15 a hand is suppose to last a while, but it didn't here. The slots and VP were not any better.

We head to the Excal so my GF can get her soup and use my freeplay. We start off at the BJ table and I buy-in for a grand, play for about 30 mins and color-up down a black. My friend stayed at the table for another 30 mins or so and said a cocktail waitress never even came by. This is odd, as I usually have good luck with my drinks here. I would have played longer if one would have came by. While our friend was still at the table, the GF and I hit up the high-limit slot area. We put my card in for the freeplay and pointplay, added our own money to the machine and off we went. We ended up a few hundred ahead here, but I didn't get to keep any of that.

I am getting tired of typing and you're probably getting bored with this.... gaming during the rest of day 2, 3, 4, and 5:

MGM- Up a few hundred on the Slots and BJ
TI - Down a few hundred - Just slots.
Mirage - up a few grand on slots and BJ

Against all the casinos I probably came out +1500
Poker, I probably ended down close to a grand.

I had trip 10's beat by a fool going all-in and hitting a gut-shot on the river. One one of my two $70 SNGS, it was down to three of us and the top two get paid. I am the short stack with about 1300 chips at the table. The blinds are 200/400 - 50 ante. I am in the SB and pick up pocket aces, the guy to my right goes all-in, BB folds, the all-in guy turns over Q10o, hits a 10 on the flop and a Q on the river. This is how my whole poker trip went. I have lost very few live poker sessions, and on this trip, I didn't have one winning one.

I came home +$500 and that is better than most of my trips.

    Random stuff:

    Madame Tussaud was fun.

The weather was great. I didn't really get dried out during this trip. It was windy and cool and we even had some rain during one the days.

I got got long-hauled to the Mirage. The fare was $24 and I gave him $25 and told him, "I usually tip very well, but thanks for the long-haul." He told me, " I don't need your fucking tip!" I had all of his information, but never called him in.

The Mirage pool was very nice. I had a big plastic cup drink there and asked the girl to charge it to my room and I tipped her cash. She came back and asked if I needed change and I told her that was her tip. Maybe she mixed me up with someone else, but I know my tip did not cover that drink. Anyway, it was never charged to the room. My host was suppose to put us on the cabana list for Monday, but never did. I called and talked to another host, because mine was on vacation and he put us on the list for the next day. The damn cabana people called early in the morning and woke us up. We ended up canceling the cabana, we had other stuff planned for that day, and it was just a reserve, not a full cabana comp.

Kokomos Bar knows how to mix up a drink!

The cocktail ladies at the Mirage are great. We were even killing time in the sports book and got offered drinks.

The staff at the Mirage is top-notch.

There was not one person on Wynn's golf course, Thursday. Maybe it was closed, I don't know.

We saw the Rock filiming a movie at Planet Hollywood. I really don't give a rats ass, but maybe somebody does.

Vegas was packed, so don't believe any of the hype.

    Palazzo was nice.

By the looks of my pics, I need to go on a diet.

That is all I know, unless I think of something of later. If I do, I'll update it when I add the other pics.

Your report wasn't boring and it's good to know that the Mirage staff was top notch and the cocktail waitresses were plentiful; I'll be staying there next week.

Great report. Spot on with the Mirage. Great place, top notch, but the comps have gone to hell in a hand basket.

My friend finally uploaded all of his pics. Below are some better shots of our room and also my favorite picture from the Bellagio. No, we did not use the whipcream you see in the picture. They came to restock the fridge and left that out.
