    My Trip Report

If you don't have time for a longer read, the title pretty well summarizes our Memorial Day weekend in Vegas to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary. Decided to splurge and stay at the Red Rock with plans of relaxing hours by the pool. Bought a package with our airfare that made it almost affordable. DID NOT REALIZE YOU HAVE TO PAY $21.95/DAY RESORT FEE. I'm used to the IP and downtown where your stinking room doesn't cost much more than that. By the way, room internet is not included, a Pepsi from the fridge is $4, the little box of cookies is $6 and the intimacy kit (have no idea what was in it) costs $25 added to your bill for your convenience. Did not want to touch anything because the sign says the tray is weight sensitive and the cost will be added to your bill for my convenience if anything is moved for 45 seconds. Yikes, if you are going to charge me $21.95 resort fee I should get internet included and a free intimacy kit.

$21.95/day would not have seemed quite so bad but it was 58 degrees Friday afternoon. Not exactly lay by the pool weather. It did warm up to 66 on Saturday. EXCUSE ME! It was 108 a few days ago. We finally went to the pool on Sunday when it made it to 71. If you need $21.95/day for a resort fee, do you still need to charge $6 for a can of beer and $12 for a mixed drink in a plastic cup? The 18% gratuity was added for my convenience.

My wife did enjoy a massage at the spa. A 20% gratutity was added at the spa for her convenience.

Gambling was really ugly. The first 3 hands of blackjack the dealer drew to 21. She had a blackjack the 4th hand to end the suspense early. That was about the way the tables ran the whole time except for one nice little run at the Golden Gate. Need to spend more time there. Some old Asian woman was pounding out some great music on the grand piano. Don't know if she was the planned entertainment or she just stumbled in----but she could play!!

Did enjoy some great food. Tera Rosa at Red Rock was fantastic. Asked the waiter for suggestions. He simply said,"Tell me what you like and we will make it for you." We did. It wasn't on the menu. No problem. A nice bottle of Chianti, deep fat fried cheese filled zuchini blossoms (sounds wierd--tastes great), grilled sausage in a red sauce over penne, shrimp and scallops in an alfredo sauce over angel hair, fresh hot bread, pickled peppers and artichoke hearts----and a complimentary two scoops of lemon sorbet with shaved chocolate. Really very good. Is the sorbet really free when you paid a $21.95 resort fee and it was too stinking cold in late May to use the pool?

Ate Saturday night at Second Street Grill at the Fremont downtown. The place was almost empty at 8 PM on a holiday weekend. Almost walked out thinking it had to be bad. Glad we didn't. I had a great rib eye and my wife loved her Ahi steak. Enjoyed a nice Sterling cabarnet from California. Really a nice bottle of wine and only $42 which I thought was quite reasonable for a signature hotel restaurant in Vegas.

Went to the 10 PM Saturday Rat Pack show at the Plaza. The room was maybe 1/4 full. The band was great. The impersonators were good but maybe not quite as sharp as I expected. Glad we got the 1/2 price tickets. It seems like the shows in Vegas are either spectacular and expensive (it should be impressive for $125/ticket and up) or disappointing. It seems like it was not so many years ago you got dinner, two drinks and a pretty good show for less than $50. We used to go to a show every night (sometimes two shows). They were entertaining and affordable. What happened??

Well, it's 5 PM. Guess they will stop paying me to blog on so I'll shut down. I'd hate to do this on my own time.

Hey, hey, hey!!! Don't want you to think I did not have a great weekend. I married well 32 years ago so I still had a great time---even if the daily resort fee is $21.95.

Ridiculous. So sorry you got taken for the hidden fee ride all arranged for your convenience. But I guess the 32 year ride just makes up for these few dollar bumps.
    Congratulations.
And thanks for the heads up.
I'll stay away from the Red Rock.

    Happy Anniversary.

Do they not tell you in advance about the resort fee?

If I'm not mistaken the intamacy package comes with tantalizing massage oils, tasty lotions, etc.

Okay, I found out what is in the intimacy kit from a report of the Red Rock:
"In the rooms, where they have the cookies and cashews and other stuff you can buy they also had an "intimacy kit" which included 3 condoms, a vibrating condom ring and some "booty parlor" lube, all in a very classy box. The lube said "Use with a toy. Use with a boy. Use with your favorite boytoy." For some reason, that clinched the deal--Red Rock is cool!"

And it also explains how they can get away with it. They make it part of what is "cool."
    Unbelievable!

I think I will just pack my own intimacy kit and pray the TSA guys don't steal it................

We encounter the awful resort fees nearly everywhere we travel anymore (for business at least). Since my rooms in Vegas are comped I don't encounter it there. I do however get the wonderful $13.95 per day internet fee if I want to use it. Half considering just skipping bringing the laptop next time & just paying to use the business center.

    What's that?!

I've been married 29 yrs and we dated 4 before that. When I'm through here tonight....I'm gonna have to do a google search for "vibrating condom ring".
I am sooooo out of the loop.
BUT! I think I'll ask my husband in a little while would he like for me to buy us one. If he knows what the thing is....he's got some explaining to do. :noangel:

58 degrees! Hahahaha. I guess that's a gentle reminder that it is still spring and plants are still blooming. At least you got some great meals. It would have tasted even better if you had gotten to pay with some major winnings from the Blackjack tables.

Good report. You really had me laughing.

Sounds like you didn't like the resort fee!!! FYI though, the resort fee would have covered access to the fitness center at the hotel which probably includes use of the spa facilities. I thought it also included a newspaper every morning.....Not sure what else though...I do think internet should be included also...

Whatever it covered, it is a scam. If they want to charge extra for such things, charge it to the people who want fitness, spas and newspapers. Usually his wife's cost of her massage would cover that day's spa fees. And usually, she would get to decide how much to tip too.
If they want it included as a mandatory charge, charge it as part of the room rent up front and honest.
What they know is that a certain portion of the guests won't check the fine print concerning fees and so will accept one price for the room (or package) only to be charged another higher fee, and they want that profit.
What they like is that their hotel will pop up in a list of hotels by price as cheaper than it in fact is, and they like that deception.
Just as they know that plenty of guests won't understand that moving a snicker's bar is the same as eating one.
American Airlines has the same idea when they charge $15 for the first bag.
    BTW
I stayed at the Golden Gate in April for less than $25 a night total and a paper came under my door each morning.

We bought a package online through Allegiant. There probably was some fine print somewhere that said additonal charges may apply or some such thing but it sure was not boldly stated.

My complaint is there should be a room charge and there should be extra charges for the matters not included with the room. The extra charges should be ala carte (spelling) rather than you pay for everything and probably won't use it.

Red Rock rooms are very nice. We had a strip view. The strip lights are nothing like they were 25 years ago when you could read a newspaper 3 or 4 blocks away at Midnight. There was a big 42" tv in the room and a smaller one above the tub. The bathroom was huge and very nice with marble and thick towels. The bed was a little soft for me but my wife thought it was great.

The refridgerator was full of stuff to sell. No room to even put in a bottle of water. Maid service was efficient.

    At least parking was free.

Well, Bob, I perhaps have said too much already on your thread, but let me just add that were I a casino marketer, you and your wife are exactly the people I would like to attract to my business and serve.
I admire your ability to fairly report and reflect on what was satisfying at the Red Rock, and your tendency to joke where many of us would whine or rage.
I hope you will take the time to share your thoughts with the management of Red Rock along with a link to this thread. It can't hurt.
I hope you find for your 33rd anniversary celebration a spot where you both can relax, a place where you can choose what to refrigerate and how much to tip.

Dewey I understand what you are saying, I guess I just feel differently, there is nothing better than hitting a steam room in LV. It just hydrates the skin and makes me feel 100 times better. If I were at a hotel where both Hubby and I could enjoy that for $20 a day (Red Rock's site says $19.99 a day so perhaps Alliegent added the charges on). The shuttle to the airport and to the strip is included in that fee also. A cab ride to RR and back would cost more that $40 for one trip, not to mention the shuttle to and from the airport, so for some that would definately make it worth it.

Loved your report and you can add me to the list of those who think the resort fee is a rip off. The "intamacy package" that was available in your room just left me speachless...I just don't know what to say. Tera Rosa sounds like a really nice place to eat and if I'm ever out a Red Rock I'll definetly stop by for something to eat.
