    My Trip Report

Well another trip has come and gone……….why does it seem it takes so long to get here and then all of a sudden you are on the plane headed home? I love going to Vegas, I just hate coming home that is of course til we walk through the door and are attacked by my babies. They always seem so happy to see us after we have been gone. I often wonder why they haven’t caught on to the fact that we always come home!!! We were smothered in kisses and a bundle of fur. That is the thing that makes coming home so wonderful!!! That and their smiles!! And yes they do smile, then they snuggle up with us and go to sleep!!

    Flights:
We flew Delta out of Sarasota. We left Sarasota at 7:45 on Sunday morning with a connection in Atlanta. Breakfast in Atlanta was a bagel, it should have been a bagel and a screwdriver or cape cod but no alcohol is served in Atlanta til 12:30!! What’s up with that…….Flight to Vegas left Atlanta on time and we got in 20 minutes early. My father in law flew in on Southwest and we all arrived about the same time.
We almost missed the flight home but that is another story for the end of the TR. Everything was on time, but Delta did lose one of our suitcases, I think it had to do with the time we checked in at LV though. Again more on that later.

Now onto the novel……..I will go day by day.

    Sunday:
Took the shuttle from the airport to the rental car facility and were in and out in no time. I am very glad we are express members as the line upstairs was VERY long. Got a Pacifica loaded up and headed to drop my father in law off at Flamingo. Got him checked in which was a chore due to the first room they gave us. It was too far from the elevators and he is 85 and using a cane. We got him moved. The room he was in was showing its age. I think the whole hotel needs a massive overhaul; it just doesn’t feel clean to me.
Got to Wynn around 3 and were able to check in. We went on a $119 a night offer from resort marketing. We were originally given a corner room on the golf course side of the hotel but the view was terrible and I was concerned about construction noise from Encore. They moved us when I called down to room 54-57 which is a strip view. Nice room but it was the apricot color and I definitely like the brown better. The regular rooms are slightly smaller than the corner room we had last year, but all in all they are very nice. The corner room doesn’t have the couch in it like the standard room. We really like these rooms.
After checking in we played for a few then went and picked up my father in law for dinner. We decided on Bootlegger Bistro. Got there about 5 and we were immediately seated. Dinner was good, not great but good. This is a basic place with decent Italian food it isn’t gourmet, but more of a mom and pop type place. I had too much bread as I was starving from our traveling all day, but did manage to eat a good amount of my soup and a few bites of my baked ziti which was good. Hubby had chicken parm that was just okay and FIL had rigatoni with meat sauce. Everyone was happy.
Took FIL back to Flamingo and we headed to Wynn. We were meeting some friends at Parasol Up so I took a quick shower and we headed down. Parasol Up is in the middle of the casino and it was great just sitting and people watching. After a few drinks there we went up to our room with our friends where we had champagne waiting (the wonderful waitress at Parasol Up provided the glasses!). We toasted a friendship that started on a message board over 9 years ago….They are such wonderful people and we so enjoy spending a good portion of our trips with them. We all just get along wonderfully. After some champagne, hubby decided he needed sleep so I walked our friends to the front doors and decided to gamble a bit. I found a Texas Tina penny machine and started out playing 40 cents a spin, it kept hitting so I bumped it up. I eventually had the machine up to about $200 with a $20 buyin, but like most was too stupid to hit cash out and played it down to $150. I was on the machine for about 3 hours. Had quite a few cocktails and realized it was 1:30 am and I had been up since 5am EST time, so it was time for bed. It was nice going to bed a winner!!!

    Day 2:

I forgot to mention that on Sunday night we got a call around 1:45am from my FIL apparently someone was trying to smash the door down, from what he said it sounded like a connecting door to the room next to him. Security took care of him and he was moved, but WTH here we have an 85 year old man who can’t even get a good nights sleep. This is just a pile of problems he has had at the Flamingo and we have decided he will not be staying there again.
We woke up around 6:30 and got ready to head to the casino. We played a little then got a call from my FIL. He was ready for breakfast so we picked him up at Flamingo and headed to Silverton for breakfast. Breakfast was good. We gambled a little at Silverton but there was only one blackjack table open so we headed to south pointe. Played for an hour or two without losing but no wins either. Took FIL back to Flamingo and hit the pool at Wynn. The pool is wonderful and the lounge chairs were great. They all had padding which made lying by the pool for 2 hours very nice and the water in the pool was nice, probably around 94 degrees and it was about 103 out I think. We had a few cocktails out by the pool and then headed to the room at 3:30. Got ready for dinner and hit the casino I had a $100 in free play and needed to use it, originally the plan was to play VP at the B Bar and have a cocktail while using the FP but no, that wouldn’t work since they are NO longer comping drinks at the bar. I know you think I am kidding, but it is true. No more comped drinks at the B Bar in Wynn, and over at the Sports book bar they are policing you, asking how much you put in etc. It was annoying therefore I did not spend a lot of time at either bar. Played my $100 at the Texas Tina machine and cashed out with $120, $20 was my original money to get the machine going. I did have it up higher at one point but of course gave some of it back. I was playing with their money after all, after this we headed over to Mirage to see our friends and then off to Rao’s with them.
Got to Mirage a few minutes early and sat down at a $10 blackjack table with a CSM which doesn’t bother me. Would you believe I pushed one hand and lost the rest of my $100 in a matter of minutes. How is it even possible to lose that many hands in a row? I play basic strategy and I am good at it!!! I was completely floored. There went the $100 I just won at Wynn!!! Gave my friend a call and told her we were downstairs and ready to come up to their suite, they were already waiting by the elevators. Upstairs to the suite we go…..What a room, I think they had a tower suite and it was beautiful and a great place to hang out with friends!! Sitting on the bartop when we got up was a Red Sox Mug for me!! She is a very suite friend and what makes this even sweeter is, she is a Yankees fan so I imagine buying Red Sox gear was hard for her!! LOL
We had a glass of champagne, toasted friend again and then headed over to Rao’s. I had a little trouble finding it, I knew it was where Terrazza used to be, but for some reason I couldn’t find it!! Caesar’s is just so big!! We were seated immediately at Rao’s. I really liked the décor, I felt like I was downstairs at Regina’s at Quincy Market in Boston, just a cozy place. The downside to the interior is it was LOUD, we had a wedding party in the same room and they made a lot of noise, but I am not sure if the place is loud anyway. I don’t mind loud but we were there with friends and I wanted to hear them!! Dinner started out with Pasta Fagoile soup for me, Mozzarella in Corozza for hubby and the pear salad for my friend, her hubby did not have an app. All were very good, but I was disappointed in the Mozzarella in Corozza which I know to be Mozzarella placed between two slices of bread and then dredged in egg batter, what we got was fried mozzarella, very good but not what I would consider a sandwich as the menu stated. My soup was wonderful and I shared with hubby who had the mozzarella. For dinner I had penne pasta with a fresh tomato sauce, it was fantastic!! The sauce was perfect. Hubby had the penne alla vodka, friend’s hubby had the lemon chicken and my friend had the Gnocchi with Bolognese which was very good. The only issue we had was with our server, he disappeared and we had to go looking for him in order to order drinks with dinner. He never cleared our apps plates, leaving us to do it when the entrees came; no he was not working the wedding. Dale did have a few words with him and things got much better. We did not order dessert but because of the issues our server brought us some….one was a peanut butter cheesecake, I asked him what it was and he just said try it…I occurred to me as soon as I took a bite that it was a very good thing I was no allergic to peanuts or I would have been dead!! Really this server needs some work. I told him to be more careful, someone could be allergic to peanuts like I am to bleu cheeses! The other dessert he brought was the profiteroles they were good but not great. Would I return? In a minute, the food was excellent the service spotty but that was our server. We really enjoyed the meal. The bill for 4 with 5 glasses of wine on the bill and one or two Cosmos came to $219 plus tip. The desserts of course were not on the bill, but still we had a good amount of good food for that amount. We were impressed with it.
After dinner we walked through the forum shops and back to Mirage where the car was parked. We said good-bye to our friends for the night and made plans to see them on Tuesday night. We then went back to Wynn. We went to the sports book bar as Hubby had bet on two baseball games that night. It looked like he was going to lose both of them, but the Houston game was still on and he ended up winning his bet. I can’t remember who he bet on but obviously it was the winner. Sitting at the Bar I put $20 in my machine and played $1 at a time, I was there to watch the game and wanted a drink. The bartender asked me how much I put in and then wouldn’t give me grey goose, apparently I didn’t put enough in the machine to warrant my favorite vodka!! There was another couple at the bar and when one of them ordered another drink the bartender asked her if she had put more money in the machine. The woman said she had been playing throughout but apparently that didn’t matter, free drinks are based on what you put in, not the amount of time you play!! WTH is up with that???? What is Steve Wynn thinking?? After the game was over hubby went up to bed and I went over to my ATM machine which decided not to be nice to me anymore, I wandered around the casino playing machines but ended up losing about $250 and decided to go to bed. At this point it was 2:30 and we were moving the next morning. All in all it was a good day. I lost a bit, but we had fun which is what the trip is all about. I put about 1000 points on my card at Wynn in the two days we were there so I am hoping for another offer from them. I don’t like the rules at the VP bartops but the machines on the floor did have decent paytables and I did play a bit on the money I put in them. Got up to the room and was asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. The beds at Wynn are amazingly comfortable!!!

    More to Come………………..

Nice report so far; but, what's up with the bartender asking what you put into a machine to get a comped drink? I don't think I'll be playing any VP at that bar in the Wynn. Do you know if it's the same at any of the other bar VPs at the Wynn?

There are two VP Bars at Wynn, one doesn't comp players drinks at all and the other monitors how much you put in the machine, it really bothered me and other players.

I seem to remember being at the sports book bar at Mandalay Bay and the bartender told me if I played a certain amount per hand she could comp my drink.
