    My Trip Report

Well, here's my report of our Vegas stay from April 16th-20th.

My hubby and MIL flew into Phoenix on Wednesday April 11th because hubby competed in Ironman Arizona in Tempe on Sunday the 15th. I flew in Saturday night to watch the race on Sunday. He didn't do as well as he had wanted, but I guess it was a hard day on the course that day...it was extremely windy! His goal was around 11.5 to 12 hours, but he finished at 13:17:47, so he wasn't overly happy with that. I held the finish line tape for a good portion of the race so that was a lot of fun!

On Monday morning, the three of us woke up and drove to Vegas. We stopped at Hoover Dam and took some pictures and finally rolled into Vegas about 3:30PM. My MIL had been to Vegas when she was a teenager when the Strip didn't exsist so she was essentially a Vegas Virgin. At that time, she was kicked out of the Golden Nugget for playing the slots underage LOL! Hubby and I had fun showing her around and doing a lot of "first timer" stuff that we hadn't done in a long time, and it was cool to see Vegas through someone else's eyes.

We checked in at the Imperial Palace about 4PM and went to our rooms to get settled and get ready for the evening. I had asked for a strip view but they wanted to charge extra so I declined that and asked for a pool view. They had one with two double beds and I wanted a king so we declined that also. Our room was right next to my MIL's so that was convienent. We ended up with a great view of Caesar's so I can't complain. We had a balcony so that was nice. Our room was larger than I expected and it was clean, but defintely nothing fancy and we knew that going in, but it did serve it's purpose so that's good. I have no complaints about the IP at all. Here's a picture of CP from our balcony:

We walked over to the Venetian and ate at the Grand Lux...I had the salmon and it was delicious. The GL has yet to disappoint us. We saw Phantom that night, which we all thought was very good, and then toured the Venetian, saw the Sirens of TI, which we saw the last time and still think it's very poor. I thought the original Pirate Battle was awesome and miss that. We also walked through the Mirage and then headed back to get some sleep.

I have to say that the weather was disappointing this week. It was cold and very windy...30MPH winds and barely 70 degrees with the exception of one day so that sucked...the week before was 80+ and beautiful I guess.

On Tuesday we didn't have reservations for anything so that night we headed to Fremont St and wandered around and had a drink. We watched one of the light shows...it had a Patriotic theme. We walked around the Golden Nugget and that place is gorgeous now! The pool area is really cool...they have a shark/fish tank in the middle, a little waterfall and what looked a restaurant on top of the tank. There is also a waterslide that goes through the tank. You can see the clear tube in this photo:

Here's a neat picture I took of the light show above Fremont St:

We were going to stop at the Stratosphere and take in the view from the top, but it was just too windy so we just walked around the the Strip and took in the sights and sounds.

On Wednesday we walked through Caesar's, the Fashion Show mall, Bally's Flamingo, and Planet Hollywood. Outside of the Flamingo my MIL and I had our picture taken with some parrots so that was neat. We ate at PF Chang's and then went to the Bellagio to see O, which was great...it was a very busy show. Almost too much to take in a once but definitely worth seeing. We prefer Mystere over O though.

On Thursday we did the south strip stuff...Luxor, MGM Grand, Excalbur, etc. We did the NYNY rollercoaster and it was a LOT wilder than I remembered. I had completely forgotten about the corkscrew so that took me by surprise, but it was a lot of fun! We ate an awesome meal at Prime and then sat on the terrace outside watching the fountains and I took a ton of pictures in hopes that some would come out. Here is one of my favorites:

On Friday morning we got up and drove to Red Rock Canyon and did the scenic drive and that was beautiful. We ate breakfast at the Red Rock buffet which was great. That hotel/casino is gorgeous! After that, we drove back to Phoenix and got on a redeye flight to head home.

This was our trip in a nutshell and we had a fantastic time. The weather left a bit to be desired, but what can you do? I put together a photo album of this trip, which consists mostly of pictures from the terrace at the Bellagio, including one video of the fountains. http://picasaweb.google.com/orbaya/LasVegasApril07

Above the fish/shark tank at the Golden Nugget are the cabanas.

    Thanks!

We've had a few big snowstorms in the last few weeks so I had been looking forward to the 80+ degree heat! I was bummed when I had to wear a sweater much of the time. Oh well!

I concur -- some great pic's! That's not all such a bad view on that side of the IP.

Enjoyed the TR and pics. Pics of GN's pool make me want to see it too. I was there in Dec, but didn't know about the pool at that point :rolleyes2: .

Those are great photos. And a beautiful view from the room. Do you still remember the room number. I'd like to have that view from the IP someday....

We were on the 13th floor...I believe we were 1312, and my MIL was 1310. You want to be out far enough towards the Flamingo, otherwise you'll be staring at the rooms across the way instead.
