    My Trip Report

It's going to take several days to organize my thoughts and write an actual 'trip report' regarding the activities of the past week, but in the meantime, here are few quick-hit thoughts I had.

    - Mirage is no longer a favorite. I used to *love* the place, but now I don't think it's still even in my top five. Too post-modern euro-trashy for me now. I don't much care for all of the changes. I think they're trying way too hard to be swanky and hip. Oh, it's cool and all, it's just not for me...

    - Treasure Island is my favorite casino in Vegas. I've always liked it, but the more time I spend there, the more I enjoy it. Becoming 'TI' didn't ruin it as some folks like to say. I think it's just right. Now if they only had a better sports book, it would be the perfect casino.

    - Surprisingly, New York New York is my second-favorite hotel/casino. I hated the place back when I first visited it during the Original March Madness, but now it just feels like home.

    - We gave America (the coffee shop at NYNY) a second chance, and it redeemed itself after a very poor experience there in November.

    - After almost a year away from the game, I still have my mad poker skillz. If I could replicate the success I had last week at the MGM Grand poker room on a regular basis, I'd never have to work again. Highlight of the week--Bluffing four people out of one pot. It was nice to be able to breathe again once the cards hit the muck...

    - Speaking of the poker room at the MGM Grand, I think it deserves consideration in any discussion of the better poker rooms in Vegas. I can't recommend it highly enough. I think I like it even more than the poker room at the Mirage (which is still the Mac-Daddy of all cardrooms). For a joint that's been open only about a year, they've certainly got their shiat together.

    - Maggiano's Little Italy at the Fashion Show Mall. For a chain restaurant, they do it right, too.

    - The Parasol Up bar at the Wynn is one of the best places in town to sip a martini, smoke a cigar, and pretend that I'm wealthier than I really am.

    - This trip's Celebrity Sighting: Edgar from "24", sitting in a corner table at the Mesa Grill at Caesars Palace on Thursday night. It was all I could do to overcome the temptation to run up to the glass wall next to him and offer my interpretation of his death scene from last season.

    - I think we're done with Green Valley Ranch. From the rude host, to the complete ass-beatings we've taken there, to the lack of offers even after tons of higher-limit play (dollar slots and $25+ per hand table games for the past four months-- and the only thing they send is match plays and buy-one get-one-free buffet coupons), we've spent our last dollar there.

    - Half of the glass is gone from the Stardust tower. The top half is just a skeleton now, so it should be coming down soon. I think I want to be having breakfast at the Peppermill on the day of the implosion.

    - That new Palazzo addition going up between the Wynn and the Venetian is going up in a hurry, and it's built right up to the sidewalk. In about ten years, the Strip is going to be like any north/south street in Manhattan--no direct sunlight at all.

    - A Spa Deluxe suite at NYNY is The Shiat! Nothing better than having a huge room with a jacuzzi next to the bed. To borrow a quote from Ferris Bueller, If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up...

    - If I were a betting man, I'd probably lay a few bucks on Monte Carlo as the first of the 'modern' hotels to be imploded. It seems that MGM/Mirage is letting that one die on the vine. It's a mess over there. It looks like they're realizing that it's not going to fit in with that whole City Center concept and they could use the space.

    - I think I witnessed the first T2Ver to ever sing 'Viva Las Vegas' onstage with Big Elvis.

    - It was way too damn cold this week. All those visitors from back east seemed to be pissed off about it, too.

    - If there were ever a poker table made for LV Terry's patented brand of cardroom smack talk, the 3-6 table Sticky and I were sitting at late Friday night at the MGM Grand was it. I would've loved to have him sitting there offering commentary on some of the players we encountered.

    - The T2V crowd cleans up well and managed to avoid any 'incidents' while drinking heavily at the Wynn. There was only one party foul committed the entire night, which has to be some kind of record.

    - Did I mention that we had a great time?

It was fun pretending we were rubbing elbows with the upper class.

I gave GVR one last chance last visit. I couldn't agree with you more. What was one of my favorite buffets doesn't do it for me anymore. The vibe is gone for me.

Thank God. Now you won't have to let Sticky do your fighting for ya...

    What limit were you playing?

I read online that they are aiming for a March implosion date.
Maybe, just maybe, this will happen during MMIV

I happen to be enjoying this weather so far, knowing that the days where birds will be catching fire in mid-air are never far off!

Ummm yea, like I needed another reason...

If they confirm a date during MMIV, I will do everything within my power (legal or otherwise) to be having breakfast with Mikey at the Peppermill when it happens.

Well according to that article you posted, they are aiming for a mid-March implosion. While possible, there are always delays in this sort of thing, possibly a week added on for good measure? :wink2:

    March Madness Bankroll Plan:

    1) Park truck at Peppermill during the implosion

    2) Walk out afterwards to see it covered in Stardust-dust

    3) Scrape it off and sell on eBay

    4) Profit!

    5) Blow it all on the dice tables

I'm wondering what Sticky has to say about all this:)

Hasn't she been home a few days?

We can agree to disagree about GVR... Hopefully it doesn't go south for me, I absolutely love that place.

And yeah, the last time I was out there, I was watching a few people at the MGM poker room while waiting for my flight in the morning. Good action and the dealer was absolutely fantsastic... I need to make that one of my "to do" things...

I just read that it received the AAA four diamond award. I haven't seen it in a while and I don't know exactly what it looks like lately, but I would trust Mike.
