  1. Well I made it! We flew out on standby to try and avoid the snowstorm- and made it! I've gotten so much use/information from this board- I wanted to write a brief report from a penny slot player's view- hehe. In case there is anyone else out there like me. :)

Stayed at Harrah's the entire time. Wonderful location! Nice clean room- can't beat the price ($63ish dollars/night with taxes)

We got hosed on the taxi ride from the airport- $21- 'tunneled'. On the way back to the airport from Harrah's was only $10.

We do not rent a car- so they had a free shuttle to the "Rio" and went there one afternoon- ate at the Carnival Buffet- it was pretty good- a step or two above the 'normal' buffet food- I actually found a dessert I had never had before- Bananas Foster (I believe it was called) MMMMM

Another day - we walked to the Barbary Coast and got on their free shuttle to the Orleans- WOW- very nice large roomy casino- I (who only play slots- pennies) won $120.00 off the Big Ben penny machine- hehe.

We purchased all day $5.00 bus passes (THE DEUCE) one day and used it to go downtown- plus was interesting to see the most northern section of the strip which we hadn't seen last trip.

My husband and I played REEL Power machines at Excalibur where my husband won $400 ! playing the Pompei penny machine (only betting 25 cents a time)

Bought my son a really cool NBA All Star hat at ESPN Zone at NYNY. Walked back up the strip stopping here and there. Played slots at Alladin for a while- and I was tired of hanging onto the hat sack- told myself not to forget it- but laid it down between two machines- and sure enough- as we were starting down the passageway- it dawned on me- and ran back- but of course it was gone  ......so the $25 hat- turned into a $50 hat once I had to go back and buy another one.

    All in all great time-
Oh and we LOVED Ming's Table (Chinese restaurant) in Harrah's- ate there twice.

All in all- slept very little- have a big ole blister on my foot- but had a WONDERFUL time !

These trip reports help me to fill the void of my otherwise empty existance. Keep them coming people, keep them coming.

I'll try to post some reports from my past trips in the near future.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the trip!

BTW, being "tunnelled" does add to the price of the taxi ride but there is also an airport fee that they charge when picking up at the airport that they do not charge on the return trip. That alone will make every trip *from* the airport more expensive than *to* the airport, all other things being equal.

Glad you made it to Vegas. Flying standby can be a hit or miss proposition.
Nice hits on the penny machines. Sometimes they seem to pay out more than the quarter machines.

lillady - glad to hear you had a good trip and found a great All-Star souvenir for your son - too bad you had to buy it twice.

The airport pick-up tax is $1.20.

Traffic can also play a big part in how much you pay for a taxi in Vegas. Taxis charge 37 cents/minute for waiting time - like when you are stuck in Strip traffic. $21 is high for for a taxi from the airport to mid-strip, but $10 is pretty cheap on average.

    Banannas Foster

By the way, lillady, Banannas Foster originated in New Orleans. It is on most dessert areas in the buffets down here. Just FYI.

Well I fell in love with it David- I wish I could get it back here in Iowa. I looked up the recipe- looks like it is either made with rum or banana liquer...I've never cooked with alcohol before.....but maybe some day I'll get brave.
