    My Trip Report

Not a trip report just yet, just wanted to put some ideas to "paper" while they were relatively fresh.

Screaming "we have a stripper pole!" out a party bus window will make many women passersby blush and cringe, while it makes men suffer from whiplash.

Sin is worth a freakin' $29.06 six-pack of Corona.

Saying outloud the words "this makes the trip report" causes the memory to be erased from your brain cells instantly.

On the other hand, saying "this does NOT make the trip report" causes the memory to be engraved into your brain. Good times.

Seeing a group of people who are the center of attention and wondering "what the hell is going on over there?" - then realizing... oh.. I know those people.

Waiting for sin at the airport, next to a guy who was waiting for (F)ass.

Sending pics of the Rio giant freaky head to everyone who hates it was perversely fun.

Saying goodbye to the Stardust was not fun at all.

Rifling through someone's rather snug front jean pockets in search of a missing black chip.

Quark's Bar at Hilton mixes a few hella drinks. I highly recommend it.

    More to follow...

Here's that giant head. Heh. [IMG]

It was the nickname we gave to a trip about a dozen of us met up at last week: Not Sober-Fest.

That head is freaky! I've been to RIO a couple times now and I still haven't seen that head in person. Guess I need to look up from the slot screen a little more. My cell phone pictures never turn out, but I did get some video on the party bus but that will stay in the vault..

Damn freaky head! Wierder in person, tho, with the eyes moving. One of the top three things not to show somebody who is tripping (along with the FSE and virtually any casino carpet).

p.s. apart from the freaky head, thx for the updates.

Close your eyes when you go by Circus Circus then. They've still got a huge, hideous, neon one.

Trying to fill in the blank spots

Ok, I'm going to try and write the REAL trip report now... it's probably going to be rambling since I don't have too many cohesive thoughts and there are far too many black holes in my memory.

Flew out after work Thurs 10/19. Very crowded flight but we actually pulled out a tiny bit early! I was heading to get reading material when I heard the boarding announcement and ran back to the gate. Hubby took an aisle seat and I took a window. A very pretty Vegas Virgin sat between us. She was travelling with a friend (sitting across the aisle) who'd been previously. We used up enough drink coupons to get her in the mood for some Vegas (and to earn us a complaint from the guy in the row in front of us... our attendant was awesome - we'd been tipping him and he basically told the complainer that HE was out of line, therefore enabling me to teach Jasmine the first rule of Vegas... greasing palms makes everything go more smoothly. She'd been a bartender before so she totally understood that. Unfortunately we never ran into her again. She'd make a great addition to the group. I did give her the addy of the board here, so if she ever shows up - shout out girl!

Some strong headwinds caused our flight to poke along going across the country but we managed to land only 20 minutes late. Thanks to the TSA tip about the quart-size ziplock baggie (am I the only one who thinks Hefty and Glad are cleaning up on the security rules now?) we did not have to check luggage. I had two check ins to do, one at Paris and one at MGM. I could not score a P room at Paris but they did have an Eiffel Tower view available on the 7th floor so I tipped them $10. The MGM couldn't score any sort of upgrade or view... no tip. Neither of those check ins took long at all so we made it quickly to the taxi line. Only one person in front of us so we kept walking right to the cab, no line at all at 9:30 on Thursday night. Hubby doesn't read this board anywhere near as much as I do, so he told the driver "Paris" and we got tunnelled. I told him HE was paying for this trip because that was just wrong.

This was my 1st time staying at Paris (which I since learned in taxi lingo is "Eiffel Tower - Paris" as opposed to "Harrahs with an H"... bad planning to have two similarly sounding words) and it was very impressive to drive up to the front with the Arc de Triomphe and the lights and all. I liked it!

We already had our key for room 721, two beds, non-smoking, Eiffel Tower view. I had figured a view of the Eiffel Tower would get me a view of the Bellagio fountains too. Well... I had failed to consider just how W - I - D - E the tower is at its base so it was pretty much the entire view. Nice view of the pool too. And a tiny bit of the fountains were visible to the left of the tower. And I could hear the WHOOSH whenever the fountains did their giant burst. I just love it when they do that.

Because of the five or six drinks we had on the plane, we were wired and still ready to go, although we'd been up for nearly 24 hours at that point. I had gotten messages from Shock, Patti and Silversmiff (John) that they were downtown, riding the grain train and seeing Elvis. I also heard from Marty who had arrived about an hour ahead of me and was also heading downtown and grabbing a bite to eat at Magnolia's at Four Queens. We arranged to all meet up at the upstairs bar (Vue Bar) at the Fitz after the Elvis show. Prior to that point, I was unaware that there even WAS an upstairs at the Fitz. I'd only been there once before, on a St. Patrick's Day when it was so crowded you couldn't see from one side of the room to the other.

Since I had a few minutes to spare, I sat down at Gustav's bar at Paris to play some video poker. A guy I work with had given me $20 to play for him, so I told him "four plays on $1 video poker" since they are $5 per hand. After four plays I was right back where I started, so I told him I owed him his $20 back. He told me to play it next time. What I didn't tell him was two plays after that I got quads and cashed out with $250. Hey, I'm honest - if that had happened during his four turns I would have given that to him. Would have hurt, but I would have done it.

Anyway, I figured it was time to head downtown so I got a cab (a fellow from Iran who is planning on going back! Say what???) and headed there. He dropped me off by Binion's and I made my way over to Fitz's, where I found upstairs and a video poker bar and sat down, put in a $20 and started playing. Got a couple of drinks before ILLMarty showed up and sat down next to me.

Before too long I sent a message to John asking where they were... he called me back and we eventually found each other. Patti and Scott were still talking with Elvis. Now, I'm not an Elvis fan, but the Elvis at the Fitz is one CUTE Elvis. Just don't try and touch his hair. It's so starched you might lose a finger or two to it.

After diddling around on Fremont Street for a bit, Patti, Scott and I realized we were hungry with a capital H. Marty had just eaten, and he & John took off for the very good blackjack game at the Plaza, while me, Patti & Scott retreated to Binion's coffeeshop to chow down. (see my food TR for things eaten on this trip) After the meal, we joined the others at the Plaza, where I made a hundy playing blackjack sitting between Marty and John (neither of whom were having good luck at that time).

After awhile, Patti left us to hit the hay, and before long the rest of us, still mostly on our home time zones, decided it was time too. I'd been up for 25 hours. We grabbed a cab at the Plaza and dropped off Scott at Sahara, John at Circus Circus, me at Paris... and Marty decided not to walk from Paris back to IP but cabbed it back there after dropping me off. I have absolutely no recollection of my head hitting the pillow but I do remember thinking "Damn! The beds at Paris are hard!!" before conking out.

    Bus, the Magic Bus

Friday morning, I awoke with a successful hangover. I talked to Patti, who was still feeling the effects of the grain train, and John, who was more or less alive. Sent a message to Scott asking if he were alive. A few hours later I got an answer from him saying "nope". Oops. Or maybe that happened Saturday morning... same rule applies in any case.

I decided to see if there was life in the shower, and lo and behold - there was! Oh, I have to say this about Paris: the bathroom was the highlight of the room for me. The bed was so hard I didn't sleep well at all, and I think it was because there were two beds in the room instead of one but it felt cramped. The tv/armoire/closet was HUGE and really dominated the room. The bathroom was attractive, although the water pressure could be better. Wynn is easily my favorite place to stay, but so high on the dollar meter. Caesars, when they send me offers, is my 2nd favorite place (have only stayed in Palace Tower and Augustus Tower). Oh and one other complaint about Paris: walking on cobblestones in heels is a bitch.

Ok, so after finding some life in the shower I head over to Aladdin to wander around the mall a bit. I found a muffin and some coffee, and some much needed V-8 (my personal hangover cure) at ABC. After I finished that, I spent $20 plus tip for a 10 minute massage of my neck, shoulders and back at Desert Passage. They have some chairs set out in the squares at the mall, and kind of put a hard sell on passersby. But it was something I was interested in, so I stopped and bought. I'd taken a spill a few weeks' prior and was still feeling some lingering stiffness and soreness in my neck. I figured a massage would help and it did! It was very nice. Damn near gave him another $20 and said "don't stop!" But I still needed to walk so I paid up and ventured on to MGM Grand.

John (Silversmiff) had gotten there just a few minutes before and we met up at La Femme bar and played some VP and gabbed. I had met John in July, so me, Larry (Sanonofresurfer) and Tonya (VegasTonya) were the only people he'd known before making this trip. After awhile, we moseyed out to the taxi line to go to Venetian for a planned lunch with Mikey, Scott and Marty. The taxi line was long, and I was pretty tempted to take them up on an offer for a limo for $45. But the line did move, and we got to Venetian, and to Grand Lux, where they had hidden the three men in a back booth. (see food TR for what we ate). During the course of the meal, it was arranged that Angy would be arriving that night. All the while, we're getting messages from Sin, Tonya (who wanted to be busted out of work in the worst way), Larry and others.

After lunch, we all split up. ALL of the guys mentioned something about taking a nap. Turns out none of them did, but they all talked about it. I kept on and went to TI, where I sat at my favorite bar at Isla and lost and to Wynn, where the losing continued. While I was there, I met up with hubby and we decided to have dinner at Corsa Cucina there. I also got a call from Patti, who'd gotten to her room at Wynn and was lounging there and saying she intended to never ever leave. Can't blame her! She joined us for dinner too.

I got back to Paris with barely enough time to shower and change for the party bus before heading back to Wynn for dinner. Then after dinner, Patti and I cabbed back to Paris to meet up with the gang for the 9:30 trip to the airport to pick up Sin, then back in an hour to pick up Angy. We had decided to not tell Sin that Angy was coming until she was with us. Heh... that was fun.

Anyway, I had to contact everyone after getting a call from the bus driver telling me that he could not wait at the place I told everyone to meet me for the party bus. The word got spread that we were to meet at the NORTH entrance to Paris near the sports book. Everyone showed up in due course, and then I remembered that Sin said her only requirement was a cold Corona when she got there. I headed to the Paris gift shop and picked up six of them. Holy crap! $29.09 for a six pack of beer? Highway robbery! And of course afterwards we stopped off at a liquor store where it would have been cheaper. Oh well... Sin is worth it.

We did stop at the liquor store after heating up the party bus with Sticky, Mikey, Tonya, Marty, Scott, me & John... and like someone said it was like kids piling off a school bus on a field trip heading for the restroom. I picked up a six pack of Kona beer (Fire Rock Pale Ale in case you're interested), John got some hefeweisen, others got some Sam Adams beer, some Captain Morgan, and... a bunch of other stuff. We had plenty to keep us busy for a bit. We cruised around until just before 10pm when Sin was scheduled to arrive then parked at "Ground Zero" at the airport. I grabbed a Corona and a bottle opener and took it inside. The driver, Frankie, wasn't sure that was legal... I told him if it isn't, I'm sure someone would say something to us. No one did. Then he told us how to take the elevator upstairs NOT the escalator because we needed to go to 1 and the escalator went to 2. Uh, Sticky, come back!! She took the escalator so we lost her for a bit. Patti, Tonya and I went to wait for Sin and Tonya wrote SIN on her hand which got some interesting attention. Before too long our stripper with the pimp hat and the name of "Counsellor" made her way down the escalator and cracked open her Corona.

Her luggage was nearly the first one on the carousel - score! so we got back to the bus and partied on, shouting rude things (and showing rude things) out the windows as we made our way around Unincorporated Clark County Baby. I say that because I have no clue where the hell we were LOL Probably at most times on the Strip but we were not paying close attention.

I know we were far from the airport and worried about making it back for Angy's flight at 11pm. We made it though, right at 11 sharp. The first six or seven things Angy said to me that night were "I can't believe I'm here!!!!!!" I don't think it ever quite sunk in that she went.

With the full contingency for that night, we made our way over to the Las Vegas sign for some pictures. Just like March though, most of these didn't come out... and what was up with the stench at the sign? Do dogs come and use the fake "grass" as their personal dumping ground or what? We all made the comment to hurry up or we're gonna hurl. Too bad the pictures didn't come out because we got pretty silly.

The sharpies did make an appearance, and I was a recipient of some human graffiti. Mikey wrote "me love you long time" on my outside right thigh. Then Sin wrote (girl, you do not have to press the sharpie down quite that hard next time) on my upper left thigh "insert large bills here" with an arrow going up under my mini. Just a word - I cheated. The "skirt" was a "skort"... it had shorts under so I could get away with it.

After that, more driving, and a good laugh when the words "we have a stripper pole" were yelled out a window.... five women cringed and five men damn near ran for the bus. Lots of dancing (resulting in lots of sore body parts for the next few days) and lots of giggles. The party bus definitely has to make a repeat appearance at a future gathering. More than that, I cannot say... if you were there, you would know.

I had been in contact with Cheran about meeting up at Carnaval Court, and once we finally made it there, got on the phone with her to locate her. THe conversation went like this:
Cheran: we're in line to get into Carnaval Court now
    Kikky: so are we!
Cheran: we're on the right side..
Kikky: oh, I didn't know they had a right side and a left side! We're on the left side.
Cheran: oh, I'm not sure where we are then...
Kikky: I'd be willing to bet that person in front of me on their cellphone is you...

Heh. Met up with her very very briefly as we got our wristbands to enter. I saw Imelda dealing blackjack so I sat down with her (my feet were *killing* me by that point) and lost my buy in but not before Tim McGraw's clone was flirting with me. I saw his silver belt buckle indicating he had won something at a National Finals Rodeo event too.

At that point, I had lost the group, and was tired. And to be honest, I've had a few issues in my life lately, and was feeling kind of blue. I didn't feel like the group needed to deal with a mopey me when they were all having a blast so I left and walked back to Paris. I did get a LOT of guys saying hi and checking me out... I was saying to myself that it only happens in Vegas and this town is great! Then I remembered the graffiti all over my thighs and had to laugh.

    be back later with more...

    Saturday, or "OW Stripper Thighs!"

Because I was "lucky" enough (I guess) to retreat to bed on Friday night - slash - Saturday morning well in advance of Carnaval Court closing down (it was still around 1:30am however), I actually have some memories of Saturday morning.

Hubby & I made talk about checking out the coffeeshop at Paris, which we had never been to, but found the line for even the Diamond/Platinum entrance to be crazy at about 9:30am. We headed to Aladdin and ate at Cheeseburger (formerly Cheeseburger at the Oasis). See Food TR for details.

After that I walked (for the 2nd of 4 times) south to MGM Grand and met up with John again at La Femme bar. Oh, I forgot to mention that on Friday we had discovered a great bar at MGM. It's right near the poker room and is called Centrifuge. They had a good beer selection. On the first day I had an ale called "Skinny Dip Ale" from New Belgium brewing in Colorado. It was delicious. It was my intention to order that again on Saturday but either different words came out of my mouth or something because I was served either a Fat Tire or Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Much hoppier than I was planning. But I still drank it. Never waste a good beer.

This bar has video poker and every 30 minutes the bartenders get up on the bar and dance. It was pretty cool... they also had tv's so you can watch a sporting event, and if you want, the sports book is right around the corner so you can put some money on it.

We intended on trying to get Downtown to watch the football game at Jillians with Scott and Marty. And we did eventually show up but the fellows had moved on. So we moseyed down Fremont Street looking for an idea for lunch and decided on Four Queen's Chicago brewing restaurant for a beer and some appetizers.

After lunch, we moseyed around, trying to collect a few Silver Strikes (I brought 9 different ones home with me - I guess we were successful) and drinking beer. We stopped at MSS at the Boar bar and enjoyed their Black Chip Porter (highly recommended) and finally met up with Marty and Scott at the Plaza, where a T2V poker game was going on, and the person who had no clue what she was doing was winning! "How can I get a read on you if you have no idea what you have?" Good times, even just watching it.

By and by (read: several drinks later and the memory is real fuzzy) a bunch of us got cabs back to the Strip to get ready for Voodoo that night. Except we never made it to Voodoo... we did eat at Bamboleo and that was just bogus. Tonya and Chef have much more coherent reports on what happened between Rio and the Caesars and what-not. My favorite part of that was when we were leaving Rio and Sin realized the DOWN escalator was broken so she had to walk stairs. I missed the pick up, but was walking down the stairs, looked over when I heard a commotion and said "what the???". Scott and Chef were literally carrying Sin down the stairs. Oh... I know those people causing the commotion. Figures.

Tonya, John & I piled into Tonya's small truck and made our way to Caesars which had been designated as the backup to Voodoo when the line was too long. Unfortunately Caesars was a mob scene and first Shadow Bar then Cleopatra's Barge were deemed too crowded. We played and drank at a square bar near the sports book then a few people decided to head Downtown. Since I'd spent most of the day there, I declined. Tonya bailed and went home, and John & I continued our quest for Silver Strike coins. Most places have discontinued them. We went to a bunch of places and only found them at Mirage. Oh, and we saw Tiny Kiss walking down the street, that was neat. OH! And I got carded at the bar in front of IP. I wasn't going in - just asking how the hell do you get to IP now (you have to go around this bar, how stupid is that?).

Eventually I decided it was time to call it a day/night and headed back to Paris for another poor night's rest on the rock they call a bed.

    Dragon, dragon, CHICKEN!

Sunday I woke up, again too early, and thought it would be a good time to try the Paris coffeeshop. I had what I deemed to be a strange idea, and mentioned it to hubby, who actually thought it could work. I knew if I went back to sleep then tried to eat when I got up later that the lines would be crazy. So I proposed we get up and eat then, and then go back to bed and finish sleeping. And he bought it!

There were no lines at 8:30am on a Sunday for the Diamond/Platinum members so we got right in (Food TR has the details on the meal itself). And we weren't sure after if we'd get back to sleep but we did. And woke up at 10:30 and I thought Sin and Patti had to be out of Wynn by 11 so hubby called and woke them up. Their check out was noon. I also reminded Sticky of our lunch plans and eventually she wrote back a "sorry, no way" message.

I had to get Patti into her room at Aladdin and got utterly lost in there. Registration is upstairs and nothing looks like it used to. It does look like it's going to be an attractive casino eventually. It's a hybrid between modern and ancient Arabic right now so it's a little dysfunctional.

So Sin, Patti, hubby & I had lunch at Mon Ami Gabi on the patio. That was a very enjoyable meal, first for the company, 2nd for the perfect weather. Sin, sorry we cried on you during that song. Stuff happens.

After lunch Sin had a nap because she had the redeye out and had a deposition at 10 the next morning. Patti and I contacted Scott and John, and walked down to MGM Grand, stopping at Walgreens where I purchased a couple things to drink. My bill came to $3.08. I had a fin in hand, gave that over and said "I have the 8 cents, hold on". Fished out the 8 cents and gave and the cashier said thank you! Then she stopped and said "I owe you $2 don't I?" I said yes, then added "I'm losing enough in the casinos... I don't need to lose at Walgreen's too!" which got a laugh from her boss.

Patti & I eventually met up with Scott and John and we decided to head to Tropicana where we all tried our luck at the promotional spin machine at the entrance. I won a ticket to Folies Bergere which I gave to John. If I want to see titties I look in the mirror. We played a little there before getting in the cab line.

We were most of the way through the cab line and none of us really had any idea where we wanted to go next. Patti said she wanted to go back to Aladdin, and I thought Scott was going to continue on but he got off there. Then John & I hatched a plan to go to Hilton, since I'd never been there. We were gonna get drunk at Quark's and ride the rides.

Well, half of that happened... we flat-out forgot to ride the rides, wandering out of there after drinking and having no clue which planet we were on. I highly recommend Quark's if getting hammered is on your agenda. And I didn't even try the Warp Core Breach. I had two Antarian (or something like that) Fizzes, which were lemon rum, 151 rum, lemonade and strawberry puree. They were perhaps a little TOO easy to drink. Then I tried a drink sort of like a cosmopolitan but the Fizz was better.

We left and decided to have something "nicer" for dinner. I found a coupon in my LVA book for Roberta's so we went to El Co for dinner. After that we staggered down Fremont (again) and bumped into a bunch of people playing Pai Gow at LVC. Larry had made an appearance early after getting off pee pee duty. John sent him a Jagerbomb and Larry sent him back a Shirley Temple. ANd things escalated from there.

John & I played some hammered blackjack, with the table behind us full of T2V'ers. The Pai Gow dealer was hysterical. When you had a losing hand she'd announce LOSER!! I know it's pretty rare for a dealer to say that, they don't want to rub it in and make you stop playing. But she figured we were a special case and could take the ribbing. She also had a funny way of offering the dragon hand. She'd wave it along the table saying "Dragon, dragon, dragon" and then "chicken! chicken! chicken!". Doesn't translate well onto the screen but she had us in stitches.

Larry, Mikey & Sticky took off to play craps, and I gather they found no love anywhere they went. The Pai Gow table ended up being me, John, Hubby, Patti and Scott. And we stayed there until about 4am. I had stopped drinking a couple hours prior, but not everyone had... one person was having trouble finding a black chip and I was asked if I had it... nope. Well, I had to rifle through his jeans to find it. Patti saying "come come come" as if talking to a child and I said "I'm not doing THAT in his pocket!"

The five of us got in one cab to head back to the Strip. Patti says hi to Buck. Dropped off Scott at Sahara and said goodbye since he would be leaving in a matter of hours. Scott... see ya in March!

Then Patti, John, Hubby and I got back to Paris and decided food was in order. So we went to the coffeeshop. It was 5am before I got into bed, and before I did, I sent a text to Terry to let him know he'd gotten up to go to work before I'd gotten to bed that day. Ha.

Great TR! Sorry I missed Lunch on Sunday but I was barely human that morning. They probably would have kicked my scraggly @ss to the curb.

It was nice to see you again and look forward to next time!

You're absolutely right about this! When Dan and I stayed there we had that long walk across those cobblestones from the parking garage every night. Every night I asked the same thing "Was it this hard to walk TO the car earlier?" Seemed that the more I drank, the more difficult it got. Even in tennis shoes! :haha:

Becky, yer livin' large like a true Vegas pro. Or perhaps "Vegas pro" is not the most appropriate term :poke: ...how 'bout "Vegas veteran."

    As usual, enjoyed the read....j/e
