    My Trip Report

    Condensed Trip Report:

    Golf:
Played Friday morning at Aliente…. Had a great time drinking screwdrivers and running smack with my buddies. Hit the shot of the day to win the skins on the back 9, which meant I only had to pay one guy, and the other two had to pay me. Oh, and, the sex toy in the golf bag had to make an appearance… I guess it’s tradition now.

Played Saturday afternoon at the Mountain Course at Angle Park. Again, many screwdrivers, and a lot of buffoonery. Our one friend who drove was the DD, and made everything super easy.

    Gambling:

Played a lot of poker, along with a fair amount of Black Jack.

One nice thing about being downtown, is you can always find $5 black jack, even on the weekends. The $15 minimums on the Strip just make me angry. Had a couple of pretty good runs, and only got crushed once. Probably came out like a hundred ahead or something.

Did better at poker, although it didn’t start well. Went the first two nights without getting a pocket pair… man, that will test your discipline! Did much better the rest of the time, always coming out at least $50 ahead each time (just playing 2/4). Got two of my friends to play casino poker for the first time, and they both hit the realization that poker is the best gambling value in Vegas… they were amazed that you could play for hours on $100. Even more fun was that they both did pretty well.

The Bad Beat: Sunday night I was playing 2/4 at the Plaza with the Golf ****, and another friend of ours. We were sitting in a row, and having a great time, all winning.

I get AK of hearts in the big blind, and raise pre-flop… it’s 2/4, so there were like six callers, including the Golf ****, who was on the button. The flop comes Ten, Jack, Queen…. I flopped the nut straight… uhm… *check*… checks around to the GN, who bets. I just call, as do several others. The dealer then burns a card, and the next card is face up in the deck! The manager is called over, and the ruling is that the card is burned… not in play. So another card is dealt, I check, GN bets, and I hammer him with the check-raise. Heh. River is dealt, I bet, he calls. I show my straight… he shows…. Wait for it….. Queen / Ten… the burned Queen would have given him a Full House, and he would have taken me to the Woodshed!!!! Horrible. Dude was not happy. I felt bad while I stacked his chips. I told him the upside was now he had a good bad beat story.

Played Sunday afternoon in the new Nugget poker room, which is a Huge upgrade to the old area. Looked like they were investing in some real refurbishment of the Nugget, which I think sends a strong signal about downtown in general. Anyway, sat at a table next to the back wall, with a big flat panel TV on the wall so I could get a good close-up of the bad call that allowed the Browns to beat the Raiders. Lots of fun playing poker with two of my buddies, watching the Raider game (and then the Seattle/Chicago game), and running text smack with Blackjack. All good.

    General Buffoonery:

Uhhh… let’s see… this is where the editing comes in. I’ll just go with some generic buffoonery stories…

I guess being in Glitter Gulch within an hour getting to our hotel might qualify…. Oh! Speaking of the Gulch.. we were in there one night, and the Golf **** buys a lapdance for another friend of ours… he gives her the money, points him out, and says, “slap him around, he likes thatâ€â€¦ they go off, come back, and the dancer says to GN “he had a real surprised look on his faceâ€, and GN says, “yeah I know, he doesn’t like thatâ€!! We were falling all over the place. I guess the other highlight was the group of three women in the booth behind us that kept playing with each others breasts… when we left one of my friends went over and gave them each a dollar.. hahahaha

Then there was the evening when we came back from playing golf and all came up to our room for a couple of cold beers before getting ready for dinner (because the 17 screwdrivers we had during golf were wearing off). We cracked a beer, and decided that it was time to crack open the Patron. So a few shots and a few beers later, one of my buddies looks at me and GN, then looks back on the bed, where our other friend was sitting… looks back at us and whispers… the Blitz is on… we all immediately ran as fast as we could and “sacked†my boy… classic drunk guy behavior.. the best part was that he didn’t spill his beer. So a few drinks later I’m sitting on the bed, only to look up and see those three buffoons coming at me… one of them had come over the bed, and was literally horizontal in the air! Hahahaha Of course because I was drunk I thought I could take them… stupid physics. Got a nice little fat lip out of that, which of course only made it funnier. The next day on the third tee box, one of the guys says, “hey, what’s that on your lip?†I’m like, that’s where you freakin popped me in the lip sacking me!! So hey says, “oh yeah!!†and everyone had another laugh.

After drinking screwdrivers all day on the course, and then hitting the Patron and beers in the room, we were off to MSS’s 777 brew pub for dinner, and for the unlucky golfer to pay off his debt (highest number of putts for the day had to buy big beers at 777). We. Were. Drunk. First we got wings, because they are delicious, and go well with beer. Then we got our entrees… I ordered a California Roll, which I tend to do when I’m drunk for some reason… anyway, I take the chopsticks and pick up the golf ball sized roll of Wasabi, and I’m looking at it…. Next thing I know, GN plops down a hundred dollar bill and says “eat itâ€. You’re crazy. Then another buddy throws another fourty on the pile… oh good god… In. It. Goes. Sweetmotherofgod where is my beer??!!!! Stupid Patron. Thankfully, that was the stupidest thing I did on the trip… not the stupidest thing that was done, just the stupidest thing I did.. hhahaha So we laughed and ate and drank more good beer. An excellent dinner.

That was pretty much how the whole trip went… there are several things that will have to stay in Vegas (although the pictures may pay dividends at a future date), but I can confidently say, a good time was had by all.

    Final Notes:

Downtown has major upside when you’re just buffooning it with your boys… plenty of $5 blackjack, lowstakes poker, and the lifesaving hot dog and shrimp cocktail always at the ready.

Playing golf during the day, makes Vegas new again every night.

That was a lot of wasabi.

Having lots of vegas friends to text with while gambling is very cool.

    Still love the MSS buffet.

Lap dances are now $35, which in stripper math = $40 (who is going to ask for change?!)…. That means the price has Doubled since last time I had a lappy.

If you’re going to be drinking, flying is So much better than driving home, even though it’s not that much faster.

I think my liver is functioning again…. I’m sure it’s counting the days until MM IV

Great report. I have to agree with you that Downtown is much better for acting like a buffoon with your friends.

Sounds like a great time. Vegas memories are always better when you come home with battle wounds (ie. fat lips, bruises from strippers, etc.).

    Nice Job!

That must have been the night my phone rang with the message simply saying "way way drunk". That made me laugh. And drink. So I guess it worked.

Terry I wonder the actual look on your face was when you were stacking GN's chips after his queen was burned. Repressed amusement? f\Faux pity? Satisfaction? Some combo of the above?

    Nice trip.

Outstanding. Damn funny wasabi story. The Gulch is a ripoff. I paid the $35 once & refused the next few dance offers. Within minutes the price dropped to $20... yea, that's what I want when I walk into a [STRIKE]strip club[/STRIKE] flea market.

Drunk Raider fan is the only one who thinks that was a bad call. :poke:

    Text smack that followed...

    Terry: "Bobbled!!"
Ron: "How far away is that plasma?"
    Terry: "Three feet!"
    Ron: "You're blind"
    Terry: "It's the patron"

    :drunk:

    Good times.

    Jack@ss!!

Don't be feeding me stories about how you made money at 2/4 tables when I've already concluded that's a losing bet! If I spend hours and hundys at poker tables in december its All Your Fault.

But prop bets on chunks of wasabi are just good clean fun.
