THEhotel & Wynn trip report

4 night trip, starting last Monday:

We were in the snob tower (THEhotel) attached to MB - the place with plasma tv's in the living room, flat screen sets in the bedroom, and flat panels in the bathrooms & elevators. They even have artwork in the powder room by the door and in the main bath potty room. Small wet bar with an expensive menu (we opted for a cheap trip to the grocery store - had a 5 liter Almaden Chardonnay twobuckchuck box for all 4 nights we were in Vegas - drained it all).

The room was not that clean...several hairs in the bathroom and a suspicious stain dribblin' down the side of the bed cover. The shower faucet didn't work well (too hot or too cold). The couch & chairs in the living room looked quite trendy & chic, but were as uncomfortable as sitting on a bus bench.

Before we checked in Monday morning, we met Stan,Chmie, & their better halves for breakfast at Green Valley Ranch. Stan comped us the good meal, since I believe he owns that place.

Ate breakfast Tuesday at THEcafe downstairs - Mrs.Sco had a $4.75 bagel w/cream cheese. My 4-egg omelette (made with 4 bantam chicken eggs, apparently) with hash browns was $10.50. The food was pretty good. The Mandy Bay boofay the next morning was average & twice as much. Dinner at Border Grill that evening sucked worse than me getting caught with Hillary.

Went about $200 in the hole with their slots over two days. The Burger Bar in the MB-Luxor walkway crapshoppin' mall was good the first night, but noisy as hell.

Moved to Wynn's on Wednesday, and I've got to say that place is a lot more comfortable than MB....at least for us. We stayed there because we got a $119/night offer with $150 free slot play (which I cashed out @ $88 after an hour or so). The room was nicer & brighter than the suite at THEhotel, and the finishing details were of better workmanship (I look at that stuff closely). Wynn's place was put together better than the other one....and spotless clean.

Took the sweet wife to see Phantom of the Opera show at the Venetian that evening ($270 for two center section, row twelve seats). Wife got all blubbery, and I got a sore ass from sitting there for two hours (after buying her a $10 "glass" of twobuckchuck). Actually, the show was excellent. Afterwards, ate a light repast at Zoocrackers Deli in Wynn's. We shared an $11 1/2 sandwich & bowl of chicken soup - very good stuff + a $5 slice of good yankee cheesecake.

The next morning, we broke fast (on a LVTalk poster's advice) at the Country Club Cafe - a little-known beautiful restaurant way in the back of the hotel overlookin' the golf course ($500 p/p greenfees - for guests only). Mrs.Sco had the $12 French toast (w/fruit) & $4 cuppa coffee, while I had the $23 bacon, eggs, fancy taters, toast, V-8 juice, coffee, and $4 glass of milk. The French toast was as advertised by the mentioned poster.

While we were enjoying this $55 (with tip) repast, we watched the groundskeepers painting the 18th hole green. Unfortunately, the waterfall was down for maintenance.

Later, we walked over to TI & Mirage for a while - had drinks & lunch at Kahunaville, then went back to our hotel after some slot inaction. Walked into the SW Steakhouse about 5:30 to inquire of a reservation for later in the evening. The snooty matre'd, or whatever the sumbitch is called, asked if we were hotel guests. Hearing the affirmative, he said the only available seating was at 8:30pm - which was perfect for us. He then said, "Since you are a guest, you will be able to change for dinner?". Guess he didn't like my Texas Longhorn National Championship T-Shirt & Tarjay shorts. (he must have been a USC fan).

Anyways, th' eats wuz good. We split the $18 shrimp cocktail (3 bigass shrimp), split the $13 Caesar salad (brought two good-sized ones out), she had the filet thermidor w/fancy tater patty ($52), I had the small 10 oz. filet (no sides) for $46. She had a $12 Cosmopolitan (made with that crappy Skyy vodka instead of the superb Tito's - which yours truly told them about, naturally), and I had a $10 Maker's Mark w/7-Up (just a dash of the 7). Bill with tip was $195. One of the best meals we ever shared with a beautiful view of the lagoon & waterfall show outside. Pretty romantic stuff, even for me.
It beat the hell out of the $7.50 Brat & Fries basket we split at NYNY.

No big slot hits - I did get $280 out of some quarter machine, while she won $100 on one of those zillion line penny slots. We finished up about $150 ahead on the "gambling" this trip. Had enough points for three breakfast boofays, which we used our last morning. Bought some yankee's lady her breakfast with the 3rd one - she & hubby were celebrating their 10th anniversary.

Damn SWA return flight was two hours late - we got home at 3am yesterday morning.

Took 164 pics, many of both rooms & bathrooms, the Bellagio Conservatory, Red Rock Hotel/Casino (a swank place), the swimming pools at both our hotels. About 1/3 of them are mildly interesting. Maybe I'll post some if I figger out how.

Nice Tr We felt the same way about the Wynn...pretty "comfy" place...but pricey (rooms and food) too. What did you think overall of the MB resort (casino, pool, retaurants, or anything else you experienced there)? Tks, Dino

 

We've stayed in the standard rooms at Mandalay Bay and like them fine, as we do Raffles Cafe and the House of Blues for eating. The casino is very comfortable as are the bars. We'll stay there again, but not at THEhotel (unless they come across with a reeeeally good offer).
