Utter Bliss: Wynn Salon Suite

After a low-key anniversary and a nice bonus from work, we decided we’d stay a night in one of the higher-end hotels, which we haven’t yet stayed… initially we were torn between THEhotel and TI. Then, a few weeks back SH0CK (thanks again, Scott) posted an offer that allowed me to book a Resort Room at Wynn for $159.

Finally, on Sunday our day of escape arrived. We checked in little past 3pm, check-in was busy, but the lines moved quickly. Dorothy assisted us and offered us various upgrades, we’d tried the complimentary route and we offered to slip a $20… but no such luck. The Tower Suites were being offered for ½ price in honor of Mother’s Day. She described each of the suites and showed us floor plans. The Salon Suite is what caught our eye. “Ah, a lovely choice”, Dorothy replied. “We have a beautiful room on the 54th floor overlooking the strip available… to upgrade it will cost $300”. I look over at Frank and told him it’s was his decision. And he’s Mr. Impulsive so it was a done deal. Minutes later we’re told about all the perks that come with being a “VIP” in the Tower Suites (Exclusive access to Tableau, VIP Valet, Private Pool and Terrace reserved for Tower Suite Guests). Then, we were handed our Red Card room keys, each with our name printed on face of the card. Dorothy wished us a pleasant stay, and we were off.

Like giddy kids we race to the South Tower Entrance. I’ve always admired that portion of the hotel, never dreaming I’d actually be staying there. We hopped into the elevator and quickly zipped up to the 54th floor. Our room was just to the right of the elevators. We opened the doors and we were in awe…

The room was larger than our condo at 1950sq ft. The views were spectacular! The décor was tasteful and sophisticated and the entire place was covered in marble. There were two rooms off the foyer, a private massage room and a powder room. The living area contained two sofas, 50” Plasma HD TV, desk, dining nook and wet bar. The bedroom was divine (home to another Plasma HDTV) and the jetted-soaking tub in the master bath appeared heavenly. Also, there was a walk-in class enclosed shower, with water temperature gage and 3 shower fixtures: head, rain and hand. The bathroom also had his and her sinks, a 13” LCD TV, a dresser and two closets.

We buzzed around the room tinkering and playing with all the odds and ends, then we noticed the table in the dining alcove was really wobbly and one of the dining chairs was off balance due to missing glide. We called the front desk and notified them of the problems and maintenance came up to the room 30 minutes later. There was nothing that could be done until the morning because no carpenters were on duty. We called the front desk again and we were told we could be moved to the room next door. They would reactivate our keys and we could just walk on over to room 5403. So that’s what we did. On the way out, I noticed the marble threshold near the front door was cracked. All unacceptable, if you ask me. I expect more… it should be flawless, even.

Again, stepping into the Salon Suite we were in wonderment. The room was practically identical, except that it had a different color scheme. This one was decorated in Reds and Browns as the former was Reds and Whites.

Meanwhile, we lounged around the room soaking in the extravagance that surrounded us. Let me just say, watching the White Sox in HD TV on 50” screen, 54 floors up in the most expensive hotel in Vegas is, in a word, Spectacular!!!

6 o’clock came quickly so we headed down to the casino, in order to make our way to SW for our dinner reservations. Had a decent meal at SW, full review here. After dinner we roamed around the casino a bit and played a couple VP machines. No luck to be had, so we headed back toward the Tower Suites. We walked around the pool area while enjoying the warm quiet evening. Very beautiful! We returned to the lobby and listened to the pianist for a few moments before returning to the room.

We spent the next hour marveling at views. Down below we caught a pirate show at TI, a volcanic eruption at Mirage and a show on the Lake of Dreams. Our friend stopped by to see the room, after relaxing a bit, we headed down to Sugar and Ice for some ice cream. We sat on the patio, gabbed about the week’s events and appreciated the warm desert air.

After a nice visit we returned to our Salon Suite. We took full advantage of everything the room had to offer. The massage room was a welcomed amenity. The tub was heavenly and unique to other jetted-tubs I’ve been in. It has different speeds and the water bubbles out of several small holes that line the ring of the tub. And yes, it’s plenty large enough for two, as was the shower.

The robes weren’t as comfy as I imagined and the slippers were far too small for Frank’s feet, but they provided us with many laughs. i.e.

All in all, it was a wonderful night and we were plenty relaxed when we retired to bed. Speaking of the bed, it was really quite comfortable. It was the first hotel bed that I could actually compare to what we have at home. Usually, hotel beds are uncomfortable, as well as, the pillows and sheets, but Wynn’s were top notch. Needless to say we had a great night’s rest.

The following morning we bathed and showered. Then gazed out the window for hours. We talked about how much we love this city and appreciated our ability to take advantage of all the fine things Las Vegas offers. We vowed that we’ll get our place up in the clouds one way or another – we’ve been very anxious to get into a high-rise, but we’ve been priced out of the market… Still, we’re determined to live high-up above it all.

We arranged for a late check out, but time quickly vanished and it was 1pm before we knew it. Sadly, our time in the suite had expired. We packed our bag and reluctantly headed out to valet. We had that overwhelming - trip-ending - sorrow come over us as we waited for our car to be retrieved by valet. But then, we realized that there was no plane to catch, just a short 5-mile drive back home… where you can see Wynn in the rearview mirror the entire way. Oh, yes! It is utter bliss to call this fabulous city home!

Nice Wynn report VB...was the $300 above $159 the regular rate or was that half off? How many people could comfortably sleep in one of those suites?

Great pics too! Someone needs to seriously think about putting a hotel over top of the Fashion Show Mall. From that high up, it kinda looks out of place

 

Awesome! I love the robes myself - with their middle weight they are not too warm and not too cool. Very interesting to hear that rooms, excuse me Suites, side by side would have different color schemes.

The Salon Suites usually run around $750+. We paid $459, a huge splurge for us, but it was worth it.

There's two sofa's and the king bed so that could easily accomodate four. If you have people sleep on the floor of the living room, bedroom and massage room 20+, I suppose. Literally, there is enough seating for at least 20 people.

congratulations. great report, but it is even more exciting to hear of your ability to enjoy the city that was your goal to get to, and i know you will someday have that house in the clouds!

 

Now that is a TR after my own heart....Las Vegas is a place to be relaxed in, savored, smelled, a place to drink your favoritre drink and eat your favorite foods at your favorite resaurants and sometimes just sit and kick back and take it all in.... sounds like you guys are pretty kool people had an awesome time.
