Got my flu shot Wednesday. I have no choice unless I want to wear a mask for 4 months the entire time I am at work. Like a scarlet letter.

Not that I wouldn't get a flu shot. The last couple of years have made a believer out of me. Everyone (a lot) is getting sick with upper respiratory issues at work. I woke up yesterday morning feeling like crap. Congested, achey, but no fever. Tonight feeling worse and now running fever. Not high enough to be considered flu yet.

No way the flu shot has kicked in yet. I had 6 days off in a row and planned to get a lot of things done around the house. I don't have asthma but now every time I get a respiratory illness I get a little wheezy with bronchitis. -- Crap could probably put this in the thread about getting old.

I usually wait to get my flu shot until November or December. They usually create the flu shot trying to concentrate on what they think will be the most virulent strain for the year but a few years ago they were wrong and lots of people still caught the flu. I usually wait because hopefully they will find out the biggest strain for the year and will come up with a flu vaccine to combat that strain.

And you think the flu vaccine in December is different from the flu vaccine in August? It might be better to wait until after Halloween to get the shot but the strains are selected for the year around July.

You are correct, the strains are selected earlier in the year. My friend at the Health department said that they modify the vaccine (not really the health department but nationally) if they find a high occurrence of a certain strain cropping up so that's why I try to wait until the end of the year to get a flu shot. Does it really work? Not sure but the other year when people started getting a different flu I did not catch it so not sure if I was lucky or the vaccine they gave me helped me avoid that strain.

I get a respiratory influenza shot for the Menard's gift card drawing (won $50 last year) and the Toy Story bandages the traveling nurse brings with her.
(Last year I walked around with a Woody the rest of shot day!)

Of course, the shot doesn't prevent against the stomach flu crap that goes around a zillion times each year!

I dont get one. Got one years ago felt like crap the whole winter. Havent got the flu since high school. Last year the vaccine wasn't even the correct strain of flu that was going around.

Got my first ever flu shot yesterday when I had my annual physical. Got the shot at 2:30 P.M., by 8 P.M. started feeling achy and from 9:30-10:30 P.M. I had the shivers bad and thought the shot gave e the flu, but around 10:30 I started feeling better and today I was good as new.
