My anniversary is coming up in November and I'm switching hotels 3 times. The 2nd is Cosmo and 3rd is Treasure Island.
I want my first to be downtown but I want a good room.

We were thinking about staying at a hotel that comes out right under the FSE but that doesn't have to be a lock.
The D looks great but so does the Downtown Grand not far away.

Which hotel has the best rooms without an upgrade?

edit: I don't care about noise AT ALL.

Also, I don't care about how long I have to walk to the room. Just the room itself.

I would vote for the D only because:

The hallways are not very long, and if you get what they like to call a "mini suite" which is the end room (actually just an end room with a little more space), it's not a bad walk.

I haven't seen the D, the remodeled rooms at the Plaza are not going to compare well with Strip rooms. The obvious choice is the Nugget, but I like the rooms at DTG just fine. You might be grateful for the short distance separating you from Fremont. Four Queens will disappoint anyone not used to Downtown and the noise is bad. Many people like Golden Gate suites, but not their standard rooms.

Then it's the Golden Nugget. I was comped a standard room at the Rush Tower and it really wowed the wife. Here is a standard room at DTG.

Best standard rooms are the Rush Tower rooms @ GN, imo.

I've stayed at MSS, The Cal, The D, and El Cortez. I thought they were all nice clean rooms.

I guess if I was just going by the rooms, I'd have to give a nod to The D since all of their furnishings are made in America.

I think the only rooms that are close to rooms on the strip is at GN. I have only stayed in Rush tower but I think some of the other room types are nice as well.

GN Rush Tower or Gold Tower special floors. DTG can be new and clean, but come with ear plugs and don't like the 1/2 glass on the tub/shower.

Have not stayed at DTG, but the GN Rush or Gold tower rooms are FAR better than the D. More space, nicer furnishings.

Best basic room I think DTG. I have stayed their 3 times and never had an issue with noise. If anything I thought it was extremely quiet. Of course I stay out late...

Size wise GN,MMS or DTG. Most Downtown rooms Pre 60's which are very very tiny. DTGrand has horrible color schemes orange & split pea green. MMS & DTG are both one block off Fremont. Some people say GN casino is very tight.
I vote Golden Nugget. It will leave you right in the middle of Fremont. But I usually stay at MMS when Downtown. Boyd has one of the better slot clubs.

the best standard rooms downtown would be at the Grand or GN. after that, everything else downtown is near equal. the Grand is one short block off of Fremont street, don't let that scare you. the last few times that I have stayed there, I got some good funbook type coupons as well.

I have only stopped at two Downtown hotels. The D and El Cortez obviously I will go with the D as the better and the rooms are nice and comfy. I do like the Cortez as well but the rooms are little more basic but comfy non the less.

...just avoid the 'Carson Tower', if you do the Nugget.
It's a farther walk to Fremont from Carson Tower than it is from DTG!
