I play a lot of poker and blackjack, but just started getting into craps. I wondered what the "veterans" say are the best couple of places to play downtown. Thanks.

Craps is really subjective, and I admit I have a bias towards the casinos where I win. I like the El Cortez (low limits, they appreciate your business and will teach you without sneering), Main Street Station (I love the decor and all the Hawaiians who are really friendly), the Fremont and the Golden Gate (in my opinion the friendliest and most professional group downtown).

The places where I never win: Golden Nugget, Downtown Grand, and Four Queens. I have nothing against the places other than my losing record every time I am tempted to play there.

If you are really a new player, try to stand next to the stickman or other crew and tell them you are new and to help you "watch your odds". That is how I learned and I am a crusty old vet now.

DTG for the free Buy Bets and the Sun-Thur offers, then Plaza and MSS. MSS is tight on the offers, Plaza at least sends BOGO's.

Since you're a newbie the Boyd joints reign in customer service.

I'd say for fun factor...Probably the D...for ease of getting on a table...MSS since they gave 2 or 3 open.

This is so true and everyone's favorite would be different. I look for fun tables, where the table crew is friendly, personable and also knowledgeable and professional.

With that being said my favorite places to play would be MSS, then the Cal. The Fremont would tie as a close second. They are all at Boyd properties which is where I exclusively play. I don't play for comps but realize that for my level of play the "freebies" I get is more than if I were to play elsewhere.

I ventured into Craps for my first time last year downtown. I played at the Golden Gate for $5 and at the Fremont for $3.

The Golden Gate table was packed and there was little room to move. The table crew were really nice and helpful but all it took was one guy that was too serious and it was too much for me.

True story, after playing for about half an hour or so they finally gave me my first throw. I was packed in like a sardine on the side, across from the boxman. I threw and hit a guy in the neck that was at the end of the table. Everyone laughed so it was okay. I left shortly after.

I had fun at the Fremont. There was more room to move, the waitress came by pretty decently and there were too drunk guys that were comical and playing up to the ladies at the table. It was fun.

I think it all boils down to getting onto a fun table with decent people.

1 .MSS has good table mins and odds bets
    2. Golden Gate is a fun place but has a lot of new dealers, watch your payoffs
3 Plaza has good mins and a lot of experienced dealers who will help if you ask. Tip once in a while and they will really be helpful///

Golden Gate is usually my favorite craps table even though I never stay there. The crew with the hats, the cocktail waitress circling every five minutes, a constant refresh of players from Fremont Street. Next for me is El Cortez, low minimums, novice dealers, degenerate gamblers, crabby cocktail waitresses older than your mom. Wait, did you say fun? It works for me since I stay there often. I also love the way the two tables change between three players and ten players based on the dice, it's like watching a flock of pigeons. Plaza is dead, The D is a frat party, DTG is a slumber, Fremont is crowded and Four Queens is an intervention. MSS is always open and I have no opinion on the Cal. Did I miss anyone?

Played at MSS for the first time ever last trip and really liked it.
The environment and atmosphere is really neat.
The dealers and pitboss were extremely nice.
One guy was setting the dice and taking a while, fell short of hitting the wall a few times and was even doing lots of chatting while holding the dice.
No one complained. Every one there was out just to have a good time.
It was one of my more favorable places to play even including the strip although I only played at MSS once.

Golden Gate because the drink service is fast and the dealers are friendly. There is USUALLY open spots even when other places are packed. I don't know why that would be but it seems to work.

DTG would be my second pick. It's the very opposite of the energy of Golden Gate but sometimes you want uncrowded and relatively quiet. Nice dealers and fast drink service as well.

I like playing at The D during the day before they turn up the music so loud you have to shout. Then I head over to GG. Nice drink service, and the I've always had a good time with the dealers. I give them a hard time, and they do the same with me. Just don't forget to tip them, or put them on the pass line with odds. If you do that, they'll really help you if you forget a "normal" bet that you've been making.

I've played at all of them (except DTG) at one time or another... MSS, Cal, Plaza, GG, Nugget, Binion's, Fremont, 4-Queens, 'theD' & the El-Co.
I have consistently won at the El-Co table, so that's my bias!

But I would say that the most lively/fun table out of all of those was the Fremont's.
Back when Binion's was the 'Horseshoe ', they held that honor...not so much anymore.

I think the best and most professional are at the GN and MSS. I like playing at the GG but a lot of times the dealers are new and are unsure of the payouts. I have only played at the D once and they were okay but it is too noisy for me. I am a $150/avg bettor and I feel more comfortable at GN and MSS.

For me the best is playing at MSS. Can't beat the 20x odds and good service and friendly dealers and crowd. But then they kind of cater to the Hawaiian crowd so I also like that. I also like Fremont although they only have 2x odds but I also seem to get more comp offers there and they seem the more friendly casinos to play at. I also like the Cal but 2x odds turn me off.

To me the worst casinos to play craps are the Plaza (pit crew not very friendly and they aren't really into the job IMHO - the tables also don't seem very busy or friendly). I also don't like to play at GN, the it crew are too snooty, act like they are on the strip with higher minimums. I don't like the pit crew at the 4 queens, they act like they don't want to do the job. D is too noisy for me, maybe they need to give out earplugs to patrons. DTG? Half the time I don't know if their crap table is open so I don't even bother visiting that place.

I don't mind playing at the El Cortez with their $3 tables but sometimes the pit crew doesn't seem very friendly. I also don't mind playing at the GG with their cute dealers.

I'll second that. I can't count how many times I've had to tell their dealers to pay my bet while they are just staring off into space. Four a Queens used to be home base but I'd still go to GG for a game.

MSS station for me and El Cortez but my favorite dealer left and now works at the linq. Don't do the plaza anymore since they refuse to comp my drinks (long Island ice tea).

    I like The D if I'm in a high-energy state.
If I want to relax or get away from wrong-way bettors, head over to Main Street.
