I got a Landry's card to obtain a free room upgrade if there was one possible. Now you need to spend at least $7500 a year at Landry's Restaurants to qualify for that perk. Landry's is ruining the GN for gamblers in my opinion, denying free drink comps a lot too. Machines and VP have tightened up as well as table comps.

GN is the downtown pearl but I've had little luck on their VP/slots and eventually stopped trying,, stick to poker while visiting

I found out last week that they also stopped allowing Landry Card holders to check in at the VIP Lounge. Young lady sort of tossed the card back at me and told me I was slated for regular desk check in. I mentioned that I thought Landry's card holder could use VIP, but she told me that was stopped awhile ago.
She grudgingly checked me in as a courtesy.

One less reason to go to GN.

All just signs that the economy and Vegas visitation continue to improve. Why did they do it? Because they can.

It's amazing that the GN went from their "no resort fee" pledge to $25 in two years. Now even when they send out their standard "30% off room rate" emails the cheapest nights after resort fee and taxes are almost $75 for a Carson Tower room. I still like the place, but it's second on our list to the Downtown Grand now.

Don't give them that much credit. Remember their infamous "FSE fee" that they charged at the same time advertising that they had no resort fee pledge? That gimmick was really an insult to their customers intelligence. They've been charging what most people would consider a resort fee for much longer than 2 years!

PoTownMike yes, they totally dumped us loyal Landry's card holders. I used it frequently for the upgraded rooms and VIP check in. Now , so disappointed. They just sent me a survey about their card, will let them know, but probably won't change anything. Landry's is ruining the GN IMO

I had the good fortune to be upgraded to the Vegas Baby! Suite due to my Landry's Card, a 1 a.m. check-in and no other rooms being available/clean.
It was a fantastic perk to get a room upgrade "if available".

Will I ever use the Landry's card again?
I'll never spend over $7,500 year at Landry's restaurants.

I've gotten great upgrades too, to one bedroom suites and club rooms. Can't afford $7500 a year however.

Ok math wiz's.......on first take it looks close to 20$ a day you would need to spend to maintain the card as previously offered. If you were to spend 7500$ what other perks do you accumulate beyond dinners? I don't have one so am in the dark.
We eat Tex-mex probably every two weeks but not sure we could eat 280$ (or would want to) of it for a year. Surely you get more than "if available".

I just filled out a survey for the card, let them know my grievances. I think they are catering to business people who pick up large tabs for the room perk and VIP check in. And you aren't guaranteed it either, it is " if available ".

We've gotten Gold Tower upgrades twice and used VIP check in several times using the Landry's Card. Last time we tried using the VIP check in we were told it was no longer good for that but they'd check us in there as a courtesy. Didn't get any sort of upgrade. The Landry's card change plus their strip-level resort fee has taken the GN off our list. It was our favorite place (we've stayed there at least a dozen times), but now the Downtown Grand is our preference.

Downtown Grand is also quickly becoming my new favorite for Downtown/Fremont Street
Decent rates booking direct and using coupon codes.
Even with the resort fee.... it's priced AT LEAST nearly $50 less than Golden Nugget every single night I've checked rates for.

Gorgeous pool area, rooms are nice. Casino and restaurants are a bit dead but it's a really short walk to many other options.
I have not received any mailers or offers from them .... but I do not expect any since I don't give them much play.

The main reason I liked Golden Nugget was for the pool.
Now I just buy Golden Nugget daybeds @ The Tank on Groupon and stay other places.

I thought you were kidding! But, straight from the horse's mouth: https://www.landrysselect.com/SelectClubFeatures/PresidentsClub.aspx

That's $145/week every week of the year. I could take my better half out for a steak dinner at saltgrass every week and still be $2k short of the annual spend requirement. They must be after the expensive business lunch/dinner crowd where "not-my-money" is paying.

Oh PokerDuck I never joke about downgrades on things I promoted to my friends and got them to sign up for. Landry's should sell their hotels , they're restauranteurs not casino operators.
