Most won/lost before check-in

I was reading another thread where someone quoted an average gambling budget of $578 per visitor and someone responded they have lost that much before lunch. I know from experience that I have lost more than that before checking in on a few occasions.

I find it a very dangerous time to gamble, the time between dropping bags at the bell desk and the time I throw my extra cash and cards in the safety deposit box. Slightly fatigued from travel and often quickly girl drink drunk due to refusal to pay airport prices for food and love of fruity cocktails early in the day, I have often spent my first afternoon in Vegas "napping".

I'd be curious to hear others stories of starting off the vacation with a bang or a bust.

 

Last trip in June, I got to Ballys at about 8am and couldn't check in. Hit a progressive royal at about 11:30am for $1138! First time that's ever happened, I'm usually in bad shape on the first day as far as br goes. Before I hit it I was down about $300 though.

 

Our room is usually ready as we check in late, arriving between midnight and 1:00 A.M.. on most trips.

On the "flip" side...
I've had a few $100-200 evenings of play after checking our bags at the bell desk before our late flight home. Those are fun. They help soften the sadness of having to leave Vegas!

Hit a royal with my suitcase by my side at the Rio a few years ago. I was about $3.75 in at the time.

Too bad you can't start every trip like that.

 

I always arrive late enough to get checked in right away. Never gambled before check in.

 

My last trip in March I arrived at the Hard Rock at 1pm and checked my bags in while my room was getting ready. Managed to pull in $100 in bartop VP and $400 ($200 due to high-hand promotion) in 2 hours of 1/2 NLHE. Managed to stay ahead for the entire 5-day trip!

 

I tried to check in at 2pm at my local CET property. The room wasn't ready so I left my phone number. 30 min later I got my first ever royal for 2K. I got a call about my room 45 minutes later.

 

I don't think we've ever had a good first day but for some reason our last day is usually good. In July our flight was delayed by 3 hours and we just kicked around the casinos playing the slots. I'd say we finished the day about $500 up.

 

Last year walking out of the Cosmo I put $100 into an automated roulette game, put it on black and hit, moved a hundred to red and hit. Cashed out $300, which added nicely to a winning trip.
This year I did the same machine. Put $100 on black and hit. Left the $200 on black and hit again. Cashed out $400 which softened the blow of a slightly losing trip.

 

We usually arrive early so our room is rarely available.
One time shile waiting I was a bit aggressive on the machines and took a beating.
It was a crappy feeling when we eventually got in our room and was unpacking knowing I am already in a hole.
Since then I slow play until checked-in, showered and had our first meal.

 

Nice one! I have no story of my own, but it's a fun read.

 

If I arrive early, I find a poker tournament to kill some time and limit the damage that I can do to myself before checking in.

 

Years ago three friends went down to stay at the MGM. The check in line went forever and one said he's stay in line while the others played. One played VP and the other BJ. My buddy on the BJ table had a very simple system. If you win, double your bet, if you lose, double your bet! A half hour in he's up four grand as witnessed by the VP player. Later after check in, he says he lost $1200. The VP player says " at least you're still up almost three grand." No he says, he lost the four grand AND another $1200!
This is all in the first forty-five minutes of the trip. Not the only time he's done something like that. Understand that he didn't have unlimited funds. He was making about $45 K per year.

Awesome!!! Reading that made me think of Nicky Santoro's sports betting system.

 

one of my buddies T-Bone, lost his roll of 10K before checkin plus another 2 that he borrowed from me.
Once he checked in he got a wire transfer from home and paid me back.
end of the trip he paid back a 10k marker, bought 16k in jewelry for his wife and daughters and had
$78k in his personal carry on.

 

Sunset Station in 2013, room not ready at 10am, walked to bar and put in a hundo, bartender didn't even walk out from back to offer a drink. Cashed out a walked to center bar, bartender very cheerful and quick with a Greyhound, third spin hit Progressive for $1180. I was on a 6 day COMP so that was a REALLY good trip!
