My first night of my stay is at the MGM Grand. I would really like to get late check-out as I want to be able to hang around there until 2:00 p.m. or so - to make sure I give them some decent play before moving to Cosmo - also the later I get to Cosmo the better chance I can get into my suite right away. But I don't want to go through the hassle of checking my luggage - so when I have to leave the room - I'm gone. Tried to arrange late check-out and was told I would have to arrange for this upon check-in - and would be charged for a half day???

I have 3 nights comp available. Has anyone ever been able to book a day and 1/2 comp - or do most people just book the second night and leave early.

I was able to arrange late checkout at Aria through VIP services. I wasn't charged but that may be because I am also checking in late at 11pm. I think most people book an extra comp night when they are changing hotels even if they won't be sleeping in it.

Late checkout is a big variable. Some get it based on their play and help from their host.
Some get it with luck and the hotel not being full.

If that 2-3 hours is important, you can book the extra night as part of your comp?

As to checkin in later to get that suite... it could backfire.

For example, maybe they have a suite that is empty from the night before. Somebody else checks in and gets it at noon. The next available suite available has a paid late checkout/vip and will not be ready until 6pm. Over simplification, but....

I booked a Corporate offer at MGM Grand for January yesterday. The freeplay/resort credit amount on the Coporate offer was identical to the property-specific offer. So I booked the Corporate one in case I want to play at some other MGM property.

Two things I notice going through the booking process:
    1. The Corporate offer required a 2 night stay, the property-specific one didn't
    2. Both offered late checkout for $40 in one of the last steps of the booking process.

ETA: This was for a Grand King, not a suite. I can see where for suites maybe they wouldn't offer the late checkout during booking.

ETAA: I went back in and selected Tower Spa and Tower One Bedroom and it still had the late checkout option. But in my case, I'd be paying for the room, it wouldn't be comped.

Thanks for the responses everyone. It just boggles my mind that I can stay for 1 or 2 extra nights for no cost - but an extra 1/2 day will cost me. Not much motivation there to not just book the second night and just leave early. I think I'll just see if I can get an extra hour or two when I check-in - if not, then I'll just head for the Cosmo at 11:00.

@nostresshere - good point on the suite availability.

@Chuck2009x - when I went to book this - I couldn't do it on-line. I didn't know at that time that you couldn't have a tier discount room booked - and use an offer for the same dates. I had a Vdara room booked.

We took the red eye out last year and I called down to the desk at about 10:00 am and asked for a late check out. It was the Saturday of that 30 second UFC fight. Aria was booked solid but she was kind enough to let us hang around in the room until 1:00. Probably letting the maids know to do our room last???

This year we are doing the same and I asked for a late check out and they gave me one when I booked through VIP services. I was told we have until 6:00 without a charge. I think I will be calling a month before my trip to verify this.

just ask after you are already checked in?
i've almost always had late check out granted, even for a hotel i don't have any relationship with

and now with my player card status
at CET properties, i get an automatic 2pm check-out
    and at venetian/palazzo, i get an automatic 6pm!! check-out

For low rollers like me I think it definitely depends on occupancy rate, I've gotten 1pm no problem by calling down day sometimes, but when I was at Delano last month they were booked solid and on the guest services line they had a recorded message saying due to occupancy there would be no late check outs when you called for anything.

About 5 or 6 years ago on the day of my departure from MGM, I called down to the front desk and asked if I could check out at around 12:00. They said no because the hotel was fully booked for that day then they said "Oh, you made your reservation through the casino. Let me transfer you to casino marketing". So they did and I asked again for a late checkout at around 12:00 and they said it would be no problem.

If you have a host, I would work with them. If not, it might be a factor of how busy the hotel is on the day you check out. If they are expecting to be very busy, then it might be harder to get an extended check out. They want to turn the rooms over as quickly as possible for the next guest.

I would just book the extra night.
Well, I always double/triple book, so never worried.

Just call the morning of checkout to the front desk and if they won't do it, go to the host on duty, I've never had an issue gettin a later checkout. At least 12 or 1pm. Just tell them you have a later flight. Usually works

Yeah, it's hit or miss, unless you're a baller. If they're solidly booked you're usually SOL.

That said I have emailed hosts ahead of time in the past (MGM resorts) and they've arranged it gratis, and also on this last trip over LDW I asked at checkin and was granted late checkout, but was charged the $30 gouge.

I asked a host @ MSS last May, and got a late 2pm checkout.

Thanks for all the good suggestions everyone. I'll try at check-in. It's not that big of a deal, just wanted to make sure I gave them some decent play as they do give you full FP and resort credit even for only staying one night.

    I just revisited this thread.

I think odds are good you won't have any trouble checking into Cosmo between 11:00am and noon on a Wednesday if you have a Terrace Suite.

Also, I double booked a room for one night at MGM Grand on my last trip with FP and RC and basically no-played it (just recycled the freeplay remainder as coin in) and it didn't budge my next round of Corporate or property-specific offers. I was surprised, makes me wonder if maybe I had a "positive comp balance" or something. You don't want to risk burning the bridge if you don't have to, but it looks like you can get away with it at least once.

I'm not a big roller by any means but my last trip I was able to get a 7pm check-out at MGM with no problem. When I originally booked I selected the 3pm late check out with the fee. Per usual when I check-in I ask to pay for my resort fee on my comp stays at the check-out as I simply state I would like to see if I qualify for additional comps based on my play during the stay.

The morning of my last day I called and requested a later check out then 3pm as my flight out was at 11:00pm and was placed on a brief hold and was granted 7pm check out without any additional fee. However, they may try to charge $70 for the 7pm check-out as I've had it happen to friends in the past.

This trip coming up Oct 2nd the Hotel Operations Manager granted 3pm check out complimentary and noted my reservation that I will be asking for an even later check out due to a 10:00pm flight out and said if its available there will be no additional fee at all.

I guess I've had good luck with mLife/desk when I check call and inquire, then again my luck hasn't been all that great on the floor and I'm sure that has a lot to do with it :)
