Over the last couple years, the only Royals I have received were dealt. Doesn't that seem unusual?

It is unusual. How many have you had dealt? Do you play a lot? Like 100,000 hands a year or anything?

I guess it makes up for some people who've never had a Royal no matter how many hands they play.

Most unusual as the odds of a dealt Royal are something like 1 in 650,000.

Depends on how many dealt royals you've had in your streak. I'm actually over expectation on dealt royals with just 1 of 7 total.

Overall royal odds are about 1 in 40k, actual odds vary by strategy used. Dealt royals are expected 1 in 649,740 deals.

Assuming this 1 in 40k number and single line play, the odds of your last N Royals being dealt are:

    1: 1 in 16.24
    2: 1 in 263.9
    3: 1 in 4286
    4: 1 in 69,618
5+...I would really start questioning things

Hey, Cbart - good to hear from you. I've had one dealt Royal out of three total. Totally unexpected as I was playing Dueces at a Luxor bar. Good thing the machine locked or I might have done something stupid.

But getting a set RF on the first draw for your five RFs in-a-row is still less than the odds of winning a Power Ball jackpot!

I wonder what kinds of noticeable probabilistic events have happened in casino gambling which have had lottery-type odds; the type of things that would rouse suspicion from the casino. I'm sure it happens in Keno, but that's expected every now and then since it's like the lottery. So they know it's going to happen. Getting the same roulette numbers five times in-a-row might raise a little suspicion as to wheel bias, but since it wouldn't be consistent over time, they would disregard it. People seem to separate things like the lottery where they know it will be won sometime versus other series of events for which they think had to have an external force for it to ever happen, even though it may have the same probability of occurrence..

I had one dealt to me a couple months ago. It was my first one. The funny thing is, I play far less VP than the average bear, and I have had a couple dozen royals. Even stranger.......I have never drawn only one card to get one. It is always two or three cards to fill it.

I had these two last year. I was thinking, do I count those as two or six Royals..

I never play VP. Maybe $100 in the last decade. In May when i was at the airport getting ready to board my flight i was flopped a jack of clubs short of a royal. I drew and hit it to win $1k. 6 days later at my local casino here in Cherokee i had a shitty night at hold em and still having the itch to win again i sat down at VP with $280. I hit a few 4oak to run it up to about $480 and about 2 hours in i was flopped the royal for $3k. So in 2:30 hours of play i hit 2 royals even though that is longer than i have played VP in a decade. Luck is so weird...

I have had 52 royals since I began playing video poker in 1994. Only 1 was dealt to me.

    Hi Cbart,

We play weekly at our local HR and regularly chat with several dozen VP pals each of whom has been at it for 20+ some years. Hardly a week goes by without someone telling me that they had this or that dealt earlier that day. I don’t think your recent experience is all that unusual. I’ve had five dealt royals over the years. The most incredible one happened at TI over a decade ago. It was a sequential and the odds of that are 1-38,984,400. Then there was the time this past year that I had chased a sequential on a machine that actually pays for one for several hours but had to give up on it for poor play. I then moved to a non-sequential machine and ten minutes into play was dealt a bust hand. I discarded all five and drew. I looked down and saw a fifty cent sequential. It was nice to hit but I felt bad as I would have won $23,000 more if it had happened 10 minutes earlier. We mostly play TDB these days where quad aces w/k also pay 4,000 credits. I have had this hand dealt to me at least six times and many more times on 2-3-4’s.

I go to Vegas 4-5 days once or twice/yr. I've been playing VP for 16 yrs. Have 31 Royals. Over the last 3 years the only Royals I have received have been dealt. (3 Total) It seems to happen in slow motion and the machine holds the card for you and lock up. (In case anyone wonders) It also seems that when you play a machine forever without a quad, when you finally get one it is dealt also?

Off the top of my heard I've been dealt royals on triple play twice. I can't recall a dealt royal on single line. I have been re-dealt a royal after a 5 card discard once (4 queens).

I've had three dealt royals, one of which was on the draw after I discarded all five dealt cards so I guess that was a re-dealt royal? Don't care, got paid for it!

I've been playing VP religiously for the last 3 years and I play a lot. I'm talking about hours upon hours of VP. The only instance of a Royal was at the Venetian. Unfortunately, I was playing quarters :(

At this rate, I'll never be dealt a royal

Yes, that does seem very unusual. My results are around the mathematical averages. Est. that I play around 100,000 hands a year for the last 10 years and I avg. 2 to 3 royals per year. Had my only dealt royal last year.

I've been playing vp since 08, and I've hit probably close to 100 royals..two have been dealt (both quarters), and I JUST got a sequential royal (dollars)
most of them have been from drawing 3 cards..I think I've only had two from drawing 4 cards.

I'm overdue for one, but when they happen they seem to be drawn from a 3 to a royal.
