I have a group trip during Halloween week. Everyone is leaving a day before I am, because they're not as smart as I am. Since I'll have a rental vehicle, I have options.

I figure I'll get a decent night of rest on my final night in The Meadows, hit up some favorite joints that I haven't had a chance to patronize and experience something new, something that might suck, but nobody but me will have to be disappointed.

I'm looking for a room for one night, Thursday, Nov. 3. It's still expensive that week thanks to SEMA and/or PBR, otherwise I'd stay at Orleans. That's my favorite place to stay, but they're not offering me any incentive to spend my cash on a room there. Demand is high, tough break for me.

I'm leaning heavily at staying that one night at Club de Soleil, as I can get one night in their smallest rooms for about $63, tax included. (And 24-hour hot tub access, I think.) Heck of a deal, considering everything along the strip and downtown is $100 or more for a night. I've been at the property before, so I know what I'm getting. It's because of a stay there several years ago that I started my long relationship with the Orleans, thanks to the proximity.

I searched multiple engines and found a variety of odd places to stay for under $100. Some I have heard of, some I haven't. There are rooms at the Longhorn and Lucky Club to be had for under $100, as well as plenty of airport
area chains. Then there's something called the Roulette Motel, which isn't horrendously rated.

I stayed four nights in a musty Vegas Club hotel room in 2011, so I can survive one night in a flea bag, although I'm not inclined to gamble with some of those random old hotels between The STRAT and downtown, but plenty of people do. You gotta love a motel that still markets "free HBO" as a selling point.

Chances are I'm going with CdS for my final night, but let's pretend I was interested in gambling with my accommodations, and wanted to stay at some old school motel or cheap Boulder Highway joint. Anybody have a story about a random place they stayed on the cheap? Was it surprisingly tolerable, or was it a nightmare you keep reliving? Was it memorable for a quirky or fun reason? Did you hear gunshots? Did you feel the need to sleep with a gun? Were there ladies of the evening hanging around in the parking lot?

Did not see where you are staying the other nights. Also, will you be stuck running people to the airport all day?

We will be staying downtown together for four nights, final location TBD. Everybody but me leaves on Thursday, and at the same time, so I have one trip to the airport Thursday afternoon, at which time I'll trade in the minivan we're renting and get myself a Ford Mustang convertible. (I told everyone when I was arriving on Sunday and that I was staying until Friday. The rest of the group opted to leave on Thursday, which is fine by me.)

I would try Eastside Cannery. I had a coworker stay there earlier this year on a holiday weekend because it was the cheapest place he could find and he raved about the room.

despite it being SEMA week, or whatever it is, the rates for Sam's Town are pretty good, so I suspect similar results for East Can. I do like visiting the locals joints on the Boulder Highway, so it's something I would consider. The East Can was a nice, simple joint when I visited years ago, and I never hear anything particularly negative about it.

I did the Hampton Inn for one night one year when I made a rookie move and booked my flights before my hotel - and then Pacquaio announced a fight on the Saturday night I was going to fly in. Needless to say I wasn't paying a jacked rate on the strip for one night, and I don't like downtown, so that wasn't an option either. 100 for the night at hampton with airport shuttle and breakfast was cheaper than changing my flight to Sunday ;) No casino, but honestly an easy walk to NYNY.

I've been told that, one day, I need to check out GVR and 'M'.
Perhaps you could do that for me!

i ate at GVR once. nifty property, but i'm not going to be booking a $250 room on a thursday night in november. perhaps there are better online rates to be had, but the GVR website didn't have anything less than $250 for that night. i thought the out of the way joints had to offer lower room rates to entice us away from the strip. my bad.

just $165 for a night at the M. my $64 room rate at Club de Soleil looks better every day.

I've stayed at GVR. It's the rooms are big and beautiful. The casino is pretty big. I actually like their sports book. Like the other station casinos they do cater to locals. Dealers are generally friendly. Cocktail service tends to be weak at best. The pool area is also great. It's very laid back and chill, especially if you are used to strip life.

The bad? They messed up my bill every single time I stayed there which meant unnecessary hassle at check out. My girlfriend and I also got food poisoning one year, that night was the buffet but another night I had to send back a raw burger from their grill.
