My girlfriend hates magic acts/magicians so I want to find tix to a reasonably priced one (ideally less than 40-50 a ticket) and surprise her .. Should be pretty funny.

We're staying at mirage so anything close to that is a bonus.

    Any recommendations?

You will get near universal praise for Mac King at Harrah's, and tickets can be had for about $15 each. Technically tix are free, but there's a ridiculous one-drink minimum that suddenly makes your free ticket a $15 ticket.

He's quite entertaining. He has an afternoon show that's family friendly. If you walk out of the show hating it, you probably hate life.

Mac King show is as much comedy as it is magic. For the price it's ok just don't expect great magic. A good way to kill an hour in the afternoon. You get the discounted tickets at the TR booth (you don't have to have a TR card). As said above it includes a free drink so it's basically free.

i don't know much about Sawchuck, beyond the name, but if he gets as much praise from Boogaloo as Mac King, I'll have to find time to check him out.
and two magicians at Planet Ho? crazy!

my recommendation to the OP: avoid Nathan Burton's show. it's not terrible, but it's not nearly as entertaining from start to finish as a Mac King show.

and yes, as vic says, King will make silly little quips and jokes throughout the show, it seems like a must for every magician. King won't make cars appear out of thin air, and he'll do some fairly standard slight-of-hand routines, but he also does a few things that are not so standard and will leave you wondering how he did it. just about every Burton trick prior to the finale seemed to be a variation of the same basic concept, making a person disappear in a box that's not as tiny as it appears to be.

    From LVA

Magic Returns to the Trop: Following the ignominious departure of former resident magician Jan Rouven (now in jail awaiting trial on child pornography charges), the Tropicana is giving the currently popular entertainment genre a second chance, with word that "Band Of Magicians" will embark on a residency at the property, commencing Oct. 26. Billed as "The World's First Magic Supergroup," the ground-breaking and family-friendly show from a quartet of multi-national (one Brit, one Aussie, and two homeboys) young magicians has been described as a "truly baffling, hilarious and even strangely moving marvel of a show." Tickets, which start at $39 (plus taxes/fees), are on sale now.

You can get Penn and Teller tickets from Travel Zoo at a decent price. We sat in the top balcony in the first few rows and had a great view down at the stage. You could see everything.

The bus is free from Harrahs's (we took this one) and Bally's I think. We did take a cab back to the strip after because it's pretty busy when the show lets out. I think it was $9 back to the Aria.

I didn't know what to expect but I was they put on a good show. Hey, they shoot each other in the face with 357's what more do you want.

If price were no object, I would agree that Penn & Teller are my favorite magicians in Vegas (I believe I've seen everyone working on the Strip right now, except for Xavier Mortimer, who I will see this weekend), but I personally much prefer to get ground floor seating for their show. Yes, the Mezzanine seating can be had for cheap, but when they do stuff like card tricks it's hard to appreciate them when you're a hundred feet away.

I do highly recommend their show, but just get one of the 30% off tickets coupons that they often have in those coupon books that are passed around (I think I got one from a display in a taxi about a year back) and just buy some of the 'premium' seats with that - I think the front four or five rows have a pre-coupon price of about $100, and the rest on the ground floor are about $85.

Mat Franco at the Linq was great! He won America's Got Talent two seasons ago. It's a smaller venue so I don't think there's s bad seat in the house.

I love up-close sleight-of-hand magic so I'm always on the look-out for a magician working the strip or pedestrian bridges.

We saw Mac King 14 years ago. It was our first Vegas show. We loved it. He's really good. And you can't beat the price!

I'm seeing Mat Franco when I go this weekend. I've seen the mentalist at Bally's who's okay, but wouldnt recommend paying full price. Mac King feels a little young (like the magic that would impress kids) but it's not bad for being free. Honestly, I know it's not magic but the most impressive show I've seen in Vegas is Absinthe.

I am not sure if it is a good idea to surprise your girlfriend with tickets for a magic show when she actually hates them, but I would also recommend Mac King.
