I like to go to Vegas when my friends are in town. I've missed the last few trips due to helping my parents move and then some stupid health problems. I'm way overdue for a trip, so I'd really like to make this happen.

Because it's been some time since my last trip, I've got no comps or credit available. Plus, there are a couple of conventions during the time they're going and room rates are crazy on the Strip. The rates for Mon & Tuesday:

Bally's - 142/night (Murphy Parlor or Indigo Rooms)
    Linq - 170/night
    Flamingo - 174/night
    Paris - $275/night
    Planet Hollywood - 277/night
    NYNY - 249/night
    Mirage - 359/night
    Monte Carlo - 165/night
    TI - 287/night

See? Crazy!! Once you add in the resort fee, plus parking at MGM properties? Too much, IMO.

Most of the group is staying center Strip and I like to be close. Room rates are better for Wednesday on, but I'm still not sure what to do for Mon & Tues.
    • I can skip those nights and arrive on Wednesday, but I'll miss a couple members of the group I haven't seen in years as they are leaving Wednesday. One lives overseas now, so I may not see her again for too long!
    • I can stay Off-Strip or Downtown, but getting to the rest of the group quickly when impromptu things happen will be more difficult.
    • I can just pay up and stay Center Strip and hope to hit the Megabucks to cover my extra expenses. ;)
    What would you do?

I would call Hunter and have him work his magic at a CET property.

I guess this means you will have a car.
    What about Gold Cost?
If I had to pick from your list I would it would be Bally's. We stayed there at least 3 times back when we were strip-folks (strippers?).
I really like Mirage but that price is too high.

If it is not on the strip, I am not in Vegas. With that said, take the best deal you can find. Any room at Bally's based on what you posted. If money is a bit tight, maybe just skip Monday?

    Driving or flying?

what kind of room for those prices? seems high unless you're booking a suite

what exact dates are you looking at

you left out info to try and come up with an alternative

i just checked Linq for early October and anywhere from 75-125 per night in a regular 2 queen room

Since it has been a while for you, I would go for the strip...if you stay off strip for those nights, you might feel like you wish you were staying on the strip! Or you can rent a car...either way, you will be back in Vegas, so you will be happy with whatever you choose to do!

I'm driving, so I'll have my car. The dates I'm looking at are Mon 9/26 and Tue 9/27.

Those prices are for regular, run of house rooms.

I usually stay at Mirage or TI. I'm protesting the MGM Parking fees, so want to stay at CET or other non-MGM casinos.;) I can find decent prices off-strip or downtown, but I am hesitant because not being able to just walk over to meet up with my friends could be a problem.

I'd prefer to be on The Strip so I'll move on Wednesday as prices are more sane then. It's just Monday and Tuesday I am undecided about.

I thought about asking Hunter for some help, but I've got no history there anymore. I don't think I played much at CET on my last couple trips, and those were a while ago. :( Kikky always makes me play at Bellagio or Wynn with her. :haha:

I think your out of luck on the megabucks win. I heard some lady from Hawaii has already claimed it. But seriously I would just stay on the strip so you won't miss any of the hijinks.

Can I assume you at least logged into TR when checking your rates? My experience with them is that the offers dry up after inactivity, but the calendar either never does or takes longer to "forget you".

Anyway, with a car, and having gone to vegas as often as you, I'd stay off strip if you can get decent rates.

    Failing that I'd do Bally's.

Do off the strip. Gold Coast is a fraction of the cost for those dates. I would hope that your friends would be willing to accommodate you being offstrip and make sure you stay looped in. It's just too much of a cost difference to justify when this is not your whole vacation.

This is why I decided to bail on a Sept trip. I could have just said screw it and paid for
a room but it's hard to pay for something I normally get for free. I only stay on the Strip.

I would do GC and use the shuttle to get to the strip. With your savings you could also Uber quickly and cheaply

I just got the room rates at Bally's, Indigo room. Monday was 108, Tuesday 119, Wednesday 79, and Thursday 52, for an average of 90 plus resort fees and tax. I just checked the Ballys Las Vegas website and entered the days of interest 9/26, 27, 28, and 29. Check by entering the dates. Don't use the calendar. I don't know if that makes a difference, but keep trying.

I'm done with MGM...I'd do the Linq, Ballys or PH.

If you know what the conventions are, try to find the websites for them.

Convention websites usually allow attendees to book hotels through them. Some hotels will have rooms blocked for that.

If they mention a deadline for hotel booking, prices may drop right after that when the room blocks come off and the rooms go back into inventory. Not saying you have to wait to book, but a better price may come along.

I would go for either Gold Coast, Rio, or Palms, since close to strip. Besides the free shuttle, UBER seems to be a good bet. Price check numerous times until then - that's part of how I end up with great deals.

Staying on the strip is cool the first couple of times you are in Vegas, after that... well IMHO it's not worth it. I much prefer staying off strip. I have a car, when I do go to a show or eat on the strip it's actually pretty easy to park. Or Uber (cost me $7 from Palms to MGM last week). But in June I did stay on the strip because I had a large group and it was logistically easier given that there were several shows that some/all were attending and an age range of 21-80. But otherwise it's off strip all the way.

We're not a large group this time as a bunch of people can't make it. My day-drinking/VP buddy isn't going to make it this trip, so I'll have most days to myself I guess, unless we do a Cabana Day. Typically our group will meet up for dinner and shenanigans into the wee hours. I don't like to drive because, well.. :drunk: I am comfortable with the idea that I can taxi or Uber back to wherever I'm staying. I found good rates for Orleans, Gold Coast and Rio but I can't convince myself that being Off-Strip won't be a hassle. Solo, or with Dan, I would just avoid the Strip entirely, but everyone else seems to be staying Center Strip and I know being close is a help when you get a text message saying "We're heading over to ____ for lunch!" If I'm out at Orleans, they'll be done eating by the time I get there. :haha:

I need to get myself logged back into Total Rewards and check again on rates inside there. I'm locked out and I hate using the phone, so I've been avoiding making the call. They seem to disagree with the answer to my security question. @Aces and Eights , I'll try your trick too. Those rates you found are doable for Bally's. I can move on Wednesday when rates are more normal.

Thanks for the help all. It's been way too long and reading all your posts and TRs keep making me sad. I really need some Vegas. I miss my happy place!

Well, things worked out for me. I managed to get some help and I should be all set to stay on the Strip this time.

Thanks for the suggestions and all the wonderful PMs. I appreciate it and I'm so excited to have the chance to get back to Vegas, FINALLY!!!
