I recently had a long day at a tribal casino and lost 12,000. After i hit the 10,000 mark the Pit Boss approached me with a CTR. 4,000 of the funds were ATM and cash advance so i "argued" that i did not come in the casino with over 10,000 grand in cash. I also did not have a picture ID due to a lost wallet but i did have a DMV issued paper ID. After some discussion, i remembered that i had a passport in my car and went ahead with CTR. (I'm hoping my discussion around how much cash i came in with and initial lack of ID didnt trigger a SAR but my intuition is that it did not--the pit boss was friendly and quick about it)

I came back two days later with 2000 and lost...and came back later in the same day with another 2000--never using my players card. Upon my later arrival i noticed that the pit boss spent a lot of time looking at me...writing stuff down...on the phone etc. Next thing you know there is a pit supervisor loitering...and they are both looking at me. As if this wasn't enough, a second supervisor showed up, who is familiar with me...and me with him. Even though i did not use my players card i saw they had my name and physical description at the table monitor. Although i don't think i was being "paranoid", I can't help but say that they were constantly making eye contact with me via side glances. I then watched the second supervisor get on the pit computer...pull up a map of tables and then click on my seat. A page came up on me and i couldn't see what was on it but it felt very invasive. Does anyone know anything casino protocol and why the special interest in me?

It doesn't seem odd that people come in the casino with cash in large sums and loose it. I know it wasn't great that one time it was over 10,000 but their interest in me was over the top and although i have nothing to fear--it felt invasive and did trigger fears of having to deal with more than just the stupidity of losing a bunch of money. After my loss and their exorbitant interest i did a self-ban from the casino for one year--maybe that will curb their interest in me? Anyway...im curious if anyone can give me any opinions as to Pit Supervisor protocol and what the possibilities might be for their exorbitant interest in me. Thanks !

Do you play normal? What game were you playing?

Not sure by what you mean normal? I was playing blackjack...sometimes 2-3 spots...for 50-200 per hand.

With that info, it sounds like they may have thought you were counting.

Hi Shock. I highly doubt they thought i was counting since i was losing so much money. It felt to me like they were considering my spending or play suspicious for some reason even though it seemed like large but "normal" losses for casino play. They definitely had Supervisors suddenly hanging out...lots of side comments to co-workers and pit bosses and side glances. It was extra disturbing that the Supervisor was on the MAIN computer pulling up my seat at the table and logging information into some sort of profile. This was beyond the standard of recording play at the table monitor. It was uncomfortable to play there under that scope. I won't go back. Anyway...just curious if this could be indicative of a SAR report being filed...or some sort of investigation. I pay taxes and I'm on the up and up. Never been audited but clearly don't want to be...Life is difficult enough. :)

I mean were you doing stupid/strange things like doubling 12 or splitting tens, hitting 17 or 18, stuff like that attracts attention.

By the way, even if they did file that thing, it means nothing.

No nothing like that. Just coming in with cash...and choosing not to use my players card because i didnt want to be tracked. That being said...they still knew my name and were extra aggressive in tracking me.

Why not ask the pit critter what they are doing? Maybe just a frank conversation like I noticed a lot of conversation about my play can I ask what the commotion is about? If you have nothing to hide what's wrong with starting a dialog.

Yeah...i thought about it and now wish i would have but i banned myself from the casino. I have also read that questioning protocol leads to further inquiries and suspicions and is cause for SAR-C being filed.

I would say I wouldn't worry about it. Even if you were to go back you nothing would happen to you.

If you were doing nothing wrong, by how you're playing or with how you had amassed your bankroll, then why wouldn't you use your players card?
By playing as you said $50-200/hand, why would you not give them a players card and earn comps. Obviously you weren't low playing and protecting your ADT.
By such play I can see where the casino would become curious if not downright suspicious.

Why would you leave your passport in your car yet go into the casino without any photo id?

If you were gambling alot of money clearly you thought there was a chance you would win alot so you would possibly need that id.

So they were watching you and you were watching them. It's their job to watch the tables, maybe they were just suspicious of someone that was constantly looking in the pit area. Probably no big deal, I wouldn't sweat it.

If you truly have no concerns about them tracking your play, I would not be concerned about a SAR. My question is why are you so concerned about what the pit is doing? If you are not laundering money or counting cards, I don't think you have anything to be worried about.

Was your level of play atypical of other players sitting at the same table or other nearby tables?

Why don't you want to be tracked?

You've made us suspicious by your story, so it's not overly surprising that the professionals were suspicious of you

He's said he's banned from the casino in question. The whole thing is suspicious.

I wasn't banned by the casino. I put a self ban on myself so I'm not inclined to compulsive gambling and losing my ass. As far as tracking goes...i guess ultimately its about privacy and feeling like i can enjoy myself with a degree of anonymity. I assume no one wants to deal with being singled out for and potentially have to deal with audit no matter how straight up their finances might be. Like i said, life is challenging enough without having to deal with the government on any level. I guess ultimately i should have just given them my players card since i have nothing to be concerned about besides privacy. My original question was in regards to anyone knowing if the behavior of having extra supervisors come down and watching them click on my table and seat etc. means that they are filing inquiries to the authorities or if it simply means they are tracking my play. Curious what their protocol is... It wasn't typical as usually they just track play at the table monitors.

If you're tossing down 10k without worrying about comps, they're going to instantly assume you're counting. When it's clear that you aren't counting, they probably just became curious... Like "hey, look at this guy blow 10k in a sitting and not even get anything from it"

If I was working at the casino, I would consider a player like this a risk. They are either trying to scam somebody, are laundering money, not who you say you are (no DL), does not want comps, etc.

    It all looks funny.

If it is all your money, you have no issue at all. They file a ton of money reports daily. They have to or they can get into trouble. I think your original actions, and then following actions made them nervous.
