Table Games Ever deal with bad dealers?

Just wondering what's your guys worst experience with dealers.

I was at one of my local casinos the other day and it definitely reminded me why I stopped going to this casino. When I got there the craps table was pretty empty only about 3 other people so I figure I'm there I'll play for a little. The dealers there had to be done of the worst I've ever dealt with. It started out with them yelling at me for throwing my all tall small bet into the middle saying I'm suppose to set it behind my line bet while it was fine for everyone else to throw it in. Not really a big problem but why am I the only one that has to set it behind my line bet.
Then it comes to my turn to roll. The pit boss comes over and starts saying make sure you hit the back wall. Most of the time my dice will hit the back wall at least one always does but sometimes one will just die once it hits the table. Continually saying hit the back wall right before I throw the dice doesn't help at all, it just gets annoying. After I was rolling decently the stick person started giving me the dice with 7 showing. As anyone that plays craps you know that's like a big no. After a while the guy in the box started calling out when he thought a 7 was going to come.
I used to always go to this casino and stopped because I decided I would rather drive a little farther for a better experience. They definitely proved me that I have made the right decision not to go back in such a long time.

 

I don't know that I would have spent much time with these guys to begin with. IF the vibe is confrontational from the get-go, I'll move on.

 

I leave instantly if i'm not feeling the dealers. Too many other options to mess with a grumpy person or just a bad/slow person. Craps is all about flow, so if they aren't good as a group, i walk away.

 

It really is best to leave, trying to stay and get hot just to show em is almost always a mistake.

 

Seems these dealers or this casino has it in for you.

 

I don't deal with bad dealers. Rather walk away and find a better more fun table. There is one exception: If the table is super HOT I will endure their bad behavior and laugh LOUDLY as I rake in their fuckin casino's money. More dealer rudeness? More I LAUGH.

 

Played recently at Caesars windsor. Blackjack tables with perfect pair side bets, on the saturday of a long weekend.

Which apparently was the best time to break in some new dealers. They had two trainees trying for the first time.

The first trainee was at the table, and not doing that bad at first. He was fairly slow, and having to wait for permission for every change (and on a side bet table you need to make change nearly every hand). Then he made a small mistake or two. Taking someone's bet on a push, and they had to re lay out the cards to prove it, and getting a payout wrong. Not so bad, but it is starting to get the guy nervous.

Then it was time for a shuffle. He gets the old decks, puts them into the shuffler, brings out the shuffled decks, tries do stack them for the cut, and they fan and fall apart. Tells the mentor dealer who tells him to do a manual shuffle.

Starts doing the manual shuffle (with instruction and correction). Finishes it. Goes to stack for the cut, and it falls apart again. They bring over the new trainee for rotation, and it is his turn to do the manual shuffle. Fail at the same point. Then they finally get it right. We get our first hand in 20+ minutes. The game goes agonizingly slow, averaging a mistake every two hands. This trainee is a bit better than the first, who once he lost confidence melted down. But he is still very bad, and having to make change all the time it takes forever.

In the mood I was in, I just found the whole process hilarious, but there were some very pissed off old ladies playing in that pit.

 

It's a negative expectation game so I consider any bankroll lost as an entertainment expense...as such, i would only play at a table with a good vibe from other players and fun dealers...otherwise it makes any loss that much worse...

 

The first time he passed me the dice with a 7 showing I would have taken the dice and asked him not to do that again. When he passed them back the second time I would have cashed out and walked away. Every stick man knows not to do that

 

I am always tolerant of new dealers. I know how nervous they can be, and the longer time it takes, I'm getting points without losing. I would even probably try to make the new dealer feel better by saying something like, "With all the decks they use, I'm not surprised it falls apart."

 

Was playing Craps at Caesers about a year ago and when I got to the table realized I left my glasses back at the hotel at Aria and was having trouble seeing the dice. Kept getting major grief from one female on the crew when I would sometimes ask what the dice read. I did let the crew know when I got to the table that I forgot my glasses so they knew I wasn't just being annoying. It got so bad that I cashed out and left, even though it was a pretty hot table. Haven't been back since...

 

for me the bad dealer dilemma always depends on where i'm at. if i'm at home at hollywood columbus, i know the dealers well enough that at this point i just don't sit at a table if a bad dealer is working that table. there is one lady always begging for tips....i avoid her like the plague.

when i'm in vegas, i just go someplace else. way too many options to get pissed because of a bad dealer. when i was there a month ago i was wanting to play two hands of pai gow at the cromwell. usually, if you are playing two hands, the second hand has to be twice the table minimum. i get that and i expect to do it if i'm playing two hands. the policy at the cromwell is both hands have to be twice the table minimum. i didn't know that and i thought the dealer was pretty shitty in the way she told me. i didn't say anything, just gathered up my chips and walked. i'm sure i didn't ruin her day but wasn't in the mood to let her ruin mine either.

 

Guess that's why I like to go to vegas (downtown). If I don't feel the vibe at one casino I just walk outside and go to another casino.

But yes, I have encountered some bad/negative dealers and pit bosses.

I was at the Fremont one night. The shooter was doing well and the (female) pit boss didn't like that. She would stop play to check on the dice and try to do things to change the luck of the table. She kept telling the shooter that she needed to hit the back wall with both dice or it won't count but she never called a no roll. We were all starting to get pissed at this pit boss. The shooter went on for about 45 minutes and the pit boss was relieved when the shooter crapped out. But to piss off the pit boss we all passed the dice....back to the shooter! Pit boss didn't see that and after 5 minutes was livid when she saw the shooter again throwing the dice. The shooter again did well despite the pit boss harassing her about hitting the back wall. She rolled another 30 minutes. When she crapped out the pit boss said that we cannot pass the dice back to her. We all colored out and left the table.

Another time I was watching a table at the old Vegas Club. The stickman was harassing a shooter for not hitting the back of the table. In fact she was calling "no rolls" for the throws (both dice) that didn't hit the back of the table. Never saw that before. But if the throw didn't hit the back wall but 7 out the stickman would allow the 7 out. I don't know why the shooter would put up with this as he wasn't winning. I just kept on walking and never considered playing if that bitchy stickman was on the table. And I was staying in the hotel too.

When I went to Reno many decades ago I encountered a bad (incompetent) bj dealer. The dealer was new and so she was messing royally, paying us even though she won the hand, giving us a card even though we didn't want one and once paid 3 for 2 even though I didn't get a blackjack. After 10 minutes of this the pit boss took the dealer away and I never saw her the rest of my stay. Too bad, I felt sorry for her and tried to help her but I don't know if it was nerves or if she was that bad but I don't think she lasted long on the job.


Like others mentioned, if I don't like the way the crew was acting or I didn't feel the vibe I wouldn't stick around very long at the table.

 

Played Craps at Caesars for the first time in December. Terrible and rude dealers.
I rather play across the street at PH, Paris or Ballys.

 

I always check my payouts as a routine as I have seen some dealers short people (not on purpose).

 

It's not the bad dealers that get to me, I expect a few bad dealers per trip and just color up and leave when I have them. What REALLY bothers me is the plethora of dealers that act as automatons and deal the game without any emotion or personality at all. IMHO, there are way too many of this type of dealers and they annoy the hell out of me. Some casinos are chock full of them and I simply move on.

 

Played craps at Binions about 5 or 6 years ago and had a boxman and stickman that were serious A-holes. There were only 2 or 3 other people besides my daughter and myself at the table. I rolled a couple of times and made some early 7 outs, maybe hit a point. I then when on a mini heater and hit 5 or 6 points and kept hitting 6 and 8's on a regular basis with me pressing on those numbers. After I made the 3rd point, the boxman starts giving me grief about both dice hitting the back wall. This continues with the next made point and now the stickman (I'm in the stick left position) starts leaning over the table and partially blocking me so that I had to adjust my throw. He then starts shoving the dice past me so that I have to reach to my left to pick up the dice. I roll a 9 on the next come out roll and the boxman is really harping on me to hit the back wall. I'm getting a little pissed, so I pick up the dice and throw them hard down the table, they hit the back wall with authority and bounce back crazily onto the felt...up comes the "9" to make the point. I looked at the boxman square in the eye and with a raised voice said. "There, you like that way better?" Now, he is really pissed off. My daughter asked me about how to make a hardway bet and as I started to explain to her the stick starts yelling at me that I am holding up the game. When I finally 7'd out I immediately shoved my large stack of chips onto the felt and yelled "Color!". The boxman asked me where I was going with all that money and I told him that I was going somewhere else that didn't have such unfriendly dealers. I tossed out two $1 chips as a "tip" and told the stick that it would have been a hell of a lot more if he hadn't been such a "dick". I finally broke down this past March and played craps at Binions for the 1st time since that incident....can't beat the female dealers in their skimpy cowgirl outfits...the "suits" were just as surly as ever, however.

 

You way overtipped, you should have tossed a dollar and asked for 75 cents change.

 

I don't mind 'dealers in training'. I just make sure to watch their play & payouts very closely. I try to help them on little things (like remembering to burn a card, cut the cards or making a call-out when somebody makes an unusual play like doubling 12 or hitting hard-17).
I've also had to remind dealers to check hole-cards for Ace or 10 (as the case may be).
To me, this is just part of being courteous, and the vast majority of new dealers & pit-critters are very appreciative

Now - surly, cranky, emotionless, rude or mean-spirited dealers? I never stick around long.

With craps dealers, I tend to be pretty patient... for some, there is a fine-line between good, humorous sarcasm and being "rude".
I truly enjoy a witty, sarcastic croupier - but when they stray over to the "mean" zone, I usually color-out.

 

Soooo...not being a craps player, I have to ask: is this behavior (rudeness / hostility) more common at craps than at any other table game? If so, what is the root cause of this behavior? I know these fellas aren't making a lot (salary), but in all honesty, it's the casino's (not their) money - so why the almost malicious compliance?
