I suggested to the CA about having better linens such as Percale sheets and 100% Egyptian cotton towels and coffee makers in the rooms and how to pay for them. The Kuerig coffee makers would fund the linen upgrades and coffee makers then after that it would be all profit. They liked the idea and told me they'll look into it. Hopefully, they'll also look at replacing the shades. How this will turn out the I do not know. Comments are more than welcome.

If they will freak out about a penny machine or 6/5 vs 3/2 on a $5 black jack bet, what do you think the odds are they will buy all new sheets to replace the perfectly good sheets they already have?

I am guessing from your comments that they would charge for the coffee at a profit, and then use that money for linens.

If they feel they can make money from the the Kuerig, they might do it. It will then be profit. They are not going to just take that profit and put in different sheets or towels. A few properties already sell the K-cups.

FYI - and in all due respect - whether they do, or do not like the idea - in almost all cases they will say they like it and will look into it.

OK what's a CA? And what's so special about cotton from Egypt? Good ole USA cotton ain't good enough.... gotta be better than Canadian cotton right? And don't get me going about crappy k-cup coffee... I prefer Egyptian coffee!

They should be able to make a good profit off the Kuerig K cups. The CA is an abbreviation for California and Egyptian cotton is very good cotton and last quite awhile. You aren't a K cup guy and neither am I. I knew they would say it was a good idea that's what companies do today.

I'd pay extra for K cups. The biggest I've ever seen were DD.

Ok - I'm confused. Are you in the industry, or a consultant
of some kind? I mean - no disrespect intended - but did you just
randomly find someone at the Cal and suggest this and think they
would do it? I guess I don't understand why they would do this based
on some random person staying there.

If you want percale sheets and Egyptian cotton towels, stay at another hotel. The Cal's room rates are amongst the lowest in town and there are no resort fees. It what it is. If you want a 5 star experience, stay at a 5 star hotel. I would never expect this level of quality for a room that averages $45 a night. You might want to look into staying at the Four Seasons or Mandarin Oriental.

Lounging in bed at the CAL while drinking my morning coffee (I bring my own mini percolator from home) and catching up on Internet business. Love, love the CAL. No resort fee, small friendly casino where staff remembers you, good comps, refrigerators in every room, etc.

GIve me a clean room in Vegas and I am a happy camper. The CAL has made some very nice renovations (minus getting rid of the snack bar and replacing Pasta Pirate with the Noodle House). I am hoping that with the existing renovations and the upcoming room updates, that the rates will still stay one of the lowest in town.

I agree with that, and keep in mind the person who responded to the suggestion is likely not part of the management team that actually makes the decisions. One thing in your favor is that since they are renovating the rooms soon in at least one of the towers, that would be a good time to make a change like this. To me though, the premium sheet upgrade like you are looking for is not something very Boyd like. I'm guessing they get a dozen suggestions a day of ideas how to run their business, and not too many, if any, get implemented.

I dont see the connection between making money on coffee and spending money on sheets? If the sheets are too good they might get stolen, I'm not sure sheets matter to most downtowners that prob pass out drunk anyway.

Exactly. A homeowner might couple those two actions, but a business does not.

Decision #1 - do we want to make money on coffee? yes or no

Decision #2 - do we want to upgrade our rooms with more expensive bedding? yes or no

I bring my own sheets if there's a coffee charge for better sheets.

Do "linens" include towels / cloths etc.? Sure hope so as I can live with sheets less than I have at home maybe but the towels etc. are wanting....Wait, I thought everyone slept on the bed-spread? WTF? Another change in tourista etiquette has passed me by....

Why would a hotel like the Cal spend money on this? Even if they were to take coffee "profit" to fund it, why would they?

If you want sheets like this, you need to stay at five-star resort and not the Cal.

Obviously, anytime a customer makes a polite suggestion, they are going to agree that it is good and offer to look into it. It sounds better than "get the heck away from me, you crazy person!"
