Thinking about staying here because of the location on Fremont. I stayed at MSS last time and although the rooms were nice, I would've preferred to stay in the middle of the action.

Any pros/cons to staying at Fremont would be greatly appreciated!

The Fremont is closer to the downtown action. The rooms don't have those annoying plantation blinds that let all the light spill into your room in the morning that MSS has. I don't know what games you play, but the craps there was only double odds last time I looked while MSS had much better free odds.

Fremont has the exact same light leaking plantation blinds as MSS. From the looks of things MSS and Fremont have the same basic furnishings. Since the Cal is remodeling, I would guess the new rooms over there will have something different.

Fremont is my "home" property for comps. The rooms are small and the bathrooms are tiny. The big plus is the central location. The in room safes have a key that you have to carry around with you if you locking up cash.

Rooms can be noisy. Try to get a room that faces north or west and toward the back of the property. The elevators are quick but I prefer rooms on lower floors. The worst rooms are the ones on the top floor. Those rooms have floor to ceiling windows that amplify the noise outside. The view from the upper floors of the Fremont is nothing special, so a higher floor really has no benefit.

We were golden Nugget north tower people for a number of years, back to Steve Wynn's days. We played often at Boyd casinos and a few years ago started getting offers of 4 nights, food book and $100 FP at Fremont.

We took the offer a couple of years ago and stayed at Fremont. We loved how close the room was to the casino and staff at the Fremont. Rooms are small, but ok for one or two people.

GN is of course a nicer "place", however Fremont is our new home.

If plantation blinds are the wooden ones with 2" or so slats, expect them at the Fremont, they have been in ever room at the Fremont we have stayed in.

I am staying there in November due to the cheap rooms and we play a lot at Boyd. We usually stay at the D so I am a little nervous about the room quality but I am sure it will be fine.

I will be staying solo so size is not an issue. I have heard complaints about weak A/C and the rooms not being able to handle the Vegas summer eat. I'm also hoping the WiFi is strong.

I have stayed at the Fremont many times. Great location. The bathrooms are small, but never bothered us (two in the room). Dunkin' Donuts just off the elevator downstairs. Elevators open right up to the casino floor. Sports book. Sam's Town shuttle at the back door.
    Good luck. :beer::beer:

I had a room with bad A/C a year ago. I did a "Macgyver" hack to fix the problem. I took a bath towel, got it soaking wet then wrung it out. I draped the towel across the vents on the AC unit so that the air would blow across the leading edge of the towel. (You'll have to experiment a bit). I did this about 2 hours before turning in. The temperature in the room had dropped by at least 8 degrees on my return. Essentially I made a DIY swamp cooler. This hack will only work in the tower rooms. There is a smaller annex (floors 2-5) where the AC is built into the ceiling so this technique won't work in those rooms.

If you have a car be aware that there is only valet parking. The last time I had them valet my car at the Fremont they put a foot long scratch on it. When I complained they pointed to the sign that said they weren't responsible for any damage to the vehicle. That was the last time I stayed there or valet my car at Fremont.

The rooms at the Fremont are a little smaller than other hotels. The bathrooms are also small, I had to watch out or else my toiletries would fall in the toilet.

Overall I like the Fremont but because I always rent a car I would never stay there.

Couldn't you just park at the Cal/MSS instead and just walk over there?
We usually just bring a backpack a piece and wouldn't be driving all over.

Have stayed at the Fremont three times and I just love the location, which is tied with Golden Nugget and Four Queens as the best downtown. The rooms are definitely small but comfortable and just fine for one person (or two if they really like each other.) Bed is one of the most comfortable I've had anywhere. I love having a Dunkin Donuts just two quick left turns off the elevator. The little snack bar has good, cheap food, particularly after a few drinks late at night. Buffet is mediocre at best but OK for breakfast. Casino is fine but small. I like playing at casino bars and am not a big fan of either the original bar here or the new one they recently opened near the south entrance. I get the feeling that they have customers that have been coming there for like 40-50 years and they take care of them. That, the location and the limited rooms make this one of the more difficult comps in the Boyd chain. My advice is to stay there and enjoy it.

The paid ($9.99 per 24hrs) wifi is strong. You can also sometimes pick up the free Fremont Street wifi if your'e close to the canopy. It's about strong enough to check emails, but not stream YouTube.

I don't think location downtown matters at all. It's not the strip where it can be a long walk from place to place.

I can vouch for the 6th floor, north end, facing Binion's... yeah, it's those light-leaking window-slats, but the window faces west, and the Binion's tower blocks the afternoon sun, so they work good enough... if you go with the northern-most, even-numbered rooms (622-634), you will not notice any FSE noise...I assume this will be similar on other floors as well.
Just tell them to put you facing west, closer to Ogden than to Fremont, and you should be fine.
As others have posted, the Fremont is good for solo... two in a room is one too many.

Actually parking is harder nowadays. You have to be a guest at the Cal or MSS to get a parking pass, I don't think that Fremont will give you a parking pass to park at MSS or Cal. I also don't think that the Cal or MSS will give you a parking pass if you aren't staying with them. I never heard anyone trying that so I cannot confirm.

What about the big open parking lot caddycorner from MSS and Cal? All I've ever done is flashed my Sapphire card and they've raised the arm.

Yes, even at MSS and the Cal parking lots, if you are a Sapphire or higher cardholder parking is free at all those lots. Just that many of us are only Ruby (if anything) so we don't get free parking.

My bad knees enjoy the location right in the middle of things. Rooms are small but decent. I'm usually solo so that negates worry about room size. It does have one comfortable chair for morning news/coffee and afternoon news/cocktail. Good food at the Second Street Grill (t-bone special is great) and the buffet/cafe is ok for breakfast. Avoid the steak night in the buffet at all costs. You have better bovine options on your feet or in your closet at home seafood night is better. The crab is snow crab, but edible and there's plenty of shrimp to be had. For about $20, it's not bad. Tony Romas has ok ribs and run the nightly prime rib special for about $10. I think the room/food/gambling combo at the Fremont is reasonable and recommend it.

    Good Luck!

How is the noise level in the rooms at the Fremont? Are there suggested rooms to request that are better than others in terms of noise?

I personally loved my room at the Fremont. My partner, not so much. I think part of it was that I stayed alone the first night. I do have to admit it was a bit cramped with even just 2 people for the next 2 nights. We are used to the huge rooms at the Plaza. We had a room directly above the bus stop, and although I had heard nightmare stories of noise in these rooms, we did not notice any noise at all, and it was kind of fun people watching from there. Yep, plantation style blinds, but the light didn't bother me either. I did notice that the rooms across the hall with 2 beds in them appeared to be a little bit larger. Cant beat the location.
