In an uber right now. He said my Swenson to Flamingo route was terrible and he took the highway. I'm enraged.

Contact Uber and dispute it. They track the route of each trip, so they will clearly see this guy took a longer route to rip you off and they will refund you.

Isn't Uber already a preset price between two places regardless of which route is taken?

Yes, this. Never used it but that was my impression of the service.

You never did say how much you were charged, how much was the fare?

Uber and Lyft are not set prices; you get an estimate of the fare. The actual price can vary based on surge pricing, traffic, additional stops, etc

With that being said, uber customer service is both responsive and fast. Rate the driver one star, contact Uber, and there will likely be a refund within minutes.

How different was the estimate vs. the actual charge?

And crickets from the OP bc they realized the Uber driver was doing the right thing and saving themselves time, and not costing you more money.

Very rarely has it been higher. My personal experience is that is is almost always on the lower end of the estimate. The only time it hasn't been was a bad driver (once) and the other infrequent times it was traffic.

Unless surge pricing is in effect it's almost universally cheaper than a cab.

And, I've never had a dirty car and only had one rude driver. Comparing that to numerous bad cab experiences in Vegas and elsewhere, ride sharing will always be my preference.

I thought uber was the most perfect, cheap, reputable thing in the world.

$14.65. Partial refund nixed. Still pissed that he defied my instructions.

BTW, I'm about a five year Uber user. In all that time, yes I've complained about the occasional bad route and gotten a few bucks back. But I have never been overtly ignored like this, and I consider it a highly unethical move by the driver, regardless of whether it happens in an Uber or a cab.

Don't know where you were going to or coming form, however, it doesn't sound like you were long hauled if the bill is only $14. My last Uber ride was $65 from Mirage to Main Street Station. :(

Ouch, why was the ride so expensive? Estimate from Mirage to MSS is $9-$12.

the driver straight up ignoring your request is bad; I've only experienced that with cabs.

$65 between Mirage and MSS is definitely a justifiable complaint to Uber. It's only six miles with a driving time not much more than 10 minutes.

The $65 fare must have been due to surge pricing. And Uber isn't to blame or complain to. The user is told in advance of the surge and given an estimate. They can either accept it or look for an alternative like a taxi. And to the op, was the $14 far cheaper then what a taxi would have cost? I understand you being unset about him not following your directions, however as a professional limo driver myself sometimes we know the best ways to get from a to b. Now having said that I will always follow my passengers directions then laugh to myself when we get caught in traffic because they wanted to be a backseat driver.

Though the final fare was within the upper limits of the estimated fare, It's surprising that Uber did not offer even a token refund, given the Uber travel route calls for using the surface road network and not the freeway...
