    Hello,
I am trying to decide which one to stay at for 5 nights. Does anyone have any opinions/thoughts on which one I should choose? Here are my thoughts/concerns:
    - The D would be a little over $100 cheaper
    - Golden Nugget Carson Rooms seem quieter and nicer. I am not an early to bed guy but sometimes I do
relax in my room and watch some TV to take a break from gambling
    - The reviews on The D's newer elevator system seems very mixed, with more leaning negative
    - I don't plan on eating or playing much, if at all at Golden Nugget
    - I won't use the pool at Golden Nugget
    - I see that The D have those half open showers, rather than a full shower door. I hated those when I
stayed at Downtown Grand as water flew all over the floor and I was cold the entire time of the shower
    - I like the idea of McDonald's at The D because I enjoy cheap food after a night of drinking
    - Not too worried about comps as I am a low roller and enjoy casino hoping

There are pros and cons to both, which I guess is why I'm so torn. Can anyone help me decide? Thanks so much in advance!

I don't understand why people have issues with the elevators at the D. I've never had an issue.

Ditto with the elevators. I was there over NYE when it was sold out, and was surprised how fast they are. I never had to wait more than a couple of minutes. I would pick ANY room at the D before a Carson Tower room, just because of how far back they are. The Carson Tower rooms will probably be quieter though.

Sounds like you're leaning toward The D. I've stayed in both types of rooms you're considering. At the D it was before they'd finished the bathroom remodels (shower/tub was still old). The room was fine. The biggest issue to us at The D is that it's tough to get a quiet room. Best bet is east-facing, south end of the hall. And of course there's no assurance that would be available or they'd honor your request. It's almost too easy to get to the casino at The D! No long walk like at the Nugget from the Carson Tower.

Carson Tower rooms are nicer, IMHO. If you are all the way back you'll be facing south and will hear the announcements from the jail loudspeakers across the street, and if low, get some street noise. Still, it's nothing compared to the noise from the Fremont stage beside The D.

We're staying at either the Cabana Suites at El Cortez or The D in December. The Nugget has gotten pretty pricey since they upped their resort fee to $25. Unlike The D, they never lowered their room rates to offset any of that.

Okay thanks for the replies so far. For anyone that has recently stayed at The D, how was the half-glass shower? Did water flood the floor?

Its because so many people don't read the sign next to the elevator saying that you can't just board any elevator you want, you just press the button and go to the one it tells you to. I have never had any issues there and its way quicker than most places.

Had a Premium Corner King at the D in January. The shower was just fine. I had a towel on the floor there to stand on, anyway. Getting a survivable temperature out of the shower head was a challenge, at first. Make sure it's pointed straight down first.

The elevator will be quite a bit easier. ;)

I loved the shower at the D. It has a lot of room and I had no water issues.

The D will probably be noisier but it has never bothered me. The Carson tower at GN is set WAY back. You might as well be at the California based on the walk. I'm not a fan of the Nugget but will stay there when my wife wants pool access. If the Rush or gold towers were $100 more, the Nugget is more viable but the Carson tower doesn't work for me. I would have to be saving money to justify being there.

IMO, the D elevators are perfectly fine and I actually like the rooms better than the Nugget. The old elevators were sometimes a problem but have been good since the renovation a couple years ago. Press your floor and go to the right door.

Feel free to take this with a grain of salt. I am on the verge of being a Nugget hater and as soon as my comps run out probably won't step foot in the place other than poker tournaments.

I stayed in a suite at the D earlier this month and I was happy with it, especially the 3 TV's side by side. I'm a Sports fan. The elevators were fine. Just get on the right one. Gambling is alot better than at the Nugget. Friendly Crap table.

The Golden Nugget is setup more like a full service resort and it's evident in dealing with staff IMHO. I also like the layout of the casino floor over The D.
Carson Tower is older but these were rooms designed by Steve Wynn when he owned the place. Marble in the bathrooms, nice layout, and away from the Fremont Street experience.
Landry Select Club members get to use VIP check in and room discounts that can move you up to a better room.

Fremont Street is so short you can pretty much move between properties and stay out of the weather under the FSE canopy. I think hands down from resort quality, dealers, housekeeping, etc the GN is far nicer then The D.
The question is what's most important to you? Saving on the room rate for more gambling money? or Having a nicer hotel experience? If its the later then stay at GN.
