    My Trip Report

    Mirage 06/05
Flew out of Midway on Southwest at 5:30 am and arrived in Vegas at 7:15 am, was happy did not have to wait in security and the flight was uneventful. Turn on the phone and see that our partner in crime missed her flight and she would not be meeting us at the airport, lucky for her she is a flight attendant and can grab a later flight. Grab our car from AVIS and we have coupons from the last time we rented a car, of course they take them and don't apply them right, oh well they try, the Ford Taurus limited they gave us was nice and the air conditioned seats are a must have in Las Vegas.
We head to Albertsons to stock up on supplies and then head to the Orleans. Can't say I am too happy with their decision to raise beer prices from $2.00 to $3.00, oh well I play so I get them comped. Put $20.00 in at the bar near the theatre entrance and manage 4 jacks and up $50 in 10 minutes, so I cash out and head over to the players club to get the $10 in free place thanks LVCG. We decide to kill some more time and head over to the RIO, first time I have ever been and have to say I was pleasantly surprised with the casino and the staff. After this we head to Ellis Island and use the LVCG coupon and get $25.00 in free play, have a few beers which never got comped a drink and our flight attendant friend shows up only 5 hours late, so we head over to the Mirage to check in. I have to say trying to find the AVIS parking spots is a bit of a puzzle but I finally found it.
Check in went smoothly other then the lady at the counter tried to tell me winter skiing in CA is comparable to Chicago winters, I laughed and said "that's cute" which I can tell by the look on her face she was as amused with that comment as I was with her California to Chicago winter comparison.
The room was nice, clean, and the AC worked great.
Head to the pool and decide its time to get hammered which we did, the drinks are expensive but the Mirage is always good about wiping them off the bill at the end of the trip.
Gambling on day one was a winner, I won on the Buffalo slot, won at 3 card poker ( which I usually don't play but I was drunk and wanted a mindless game), dominated the craps table, WON at everything I did.
Day 2 through 4 were not winners, I could not win at anything, the only winning thing were the dollar beers at Casino Royale.
Overall the Food at the Mirage was fantastic, from the deli to the room service. The hotel staff was friendly. The casino was tight, the machines were awful, and the tables were cold but I do not go to Vegas to be a winner. A great trip overall but not a winner.
Went Downtown and have to say I will miss Mermaids, it was busy and have to say the change that Derek Stephen has in his mind might not be the best thing. Binions was hopping and would like to see them open the hotel again.
They took my favorite machine out of the Tropicana and its impossible to get a drink in that place.
Harrah's was fun and the table limits were low and but they do not give captain and coke when you ask for it at the tables.
Had fun everywhere I went, it was not crowded, sorry for the vague report, next time I will try to add pictures and more detail

Thanks for sharing! I'm sorry to hear about your experience at the Tropicana. I haven't been there in ages and I am (was?) looking forward to getting down there again on my next trip.

My casino experience at Mirage has been the same. I love the rooms and the location there, but oh man, that casino punishes me every time. I'd like to hear more about your room service experience there. Some of the talk since the changes have me wondering how it is.

I had to LOL at the part about the lady from CA's comment. As a CA native who once thought a bargain trip to Chicago in February was a good idea, that is cute. Everyone I talked to there said, "You should have seen it last month." :haha:

Your "winter skiing in California is comparable to Chicago winters" story made me smile. I was raised one block from the lake on Sheridan Road in Evanston (very near the Northwestern campus), so I felt your amazement-and shuddered with the memories of bone chilling January winds. I thought your response was very gentle.

Your remarks about the Mirage gaming chill mirror our experience with MGM properties. We are (expiring soon) Platinum MLife/Bellagio refugees who've happily relocated to Wynn. The last time we had any meaningful wins at Bellagio was when Mr. Wynn owned it. Always had to go off property to 'get my money back.' That didn't always work, but the MGM cold wind continued to blow like a Chicago winter for almost fifteen years. We were there when Mirage opened and I almost always won there (again Mr. Wynn made me both a lucky hotel guest and a lucky player), but we never stayed at Mirage after Bellagio opened-we'd pass through to gamble, usually with crummy results. Fortunately we're moderate players so we were never really hurt. (Wynn has happily restored what little mojo I had)

Thanks for the report-it's good to know someone still likes Mirage. The reports we've been getting have been very negative-makes me sad.

Hard to be unhappy in Vegas and your remarks should reaffirm to everyone how much fun there is to be had for visitors like us. Despite the awful Chicago winters, it was good to return to a nice lake breeze after a July trip to the Vegas furnace. Hope you had a good return home. Go Cubs!

Thanks for your super report! I wish I could bottle up some Vegas heat and let it out here in northern Wisconsin from Dec. 26 to March 20...

The skiing story made me chuckle. I had the opposite experience at Trop last week and left there over-served :). If they were trying to get me to part with the money I won there, it worked. Would love to see your photos!

Nice report, thanks for taking us along for the ride.

I have a question though....what are these LVCG coupons you used? Perhaps from the American Casino Guide (ACG) or Las Vegas Advisor's Member Rewards Book (LVA aka MRB)? If there are other coupons out there, I'd love to hear about them!

    Thanks.

    Cheers,
    Kelly
