I have an offer with $200 freeplay for my upcoming trip. What would you guys do? What would bring the best return for free money? Or would you just have fun with it and do something you wouldn't normally do. Like a $10 machine.
I always use my freeplay in the high limit room. It worked out for me last November when I got a 7 / double diamond / double diamond on $40 of freeplay at Harrahs Louisiana Downs. Hoping to have the same luck at Aria in September. Mark
if you want the money, go play some VP with it and turn it into something close to 200 bucks - if you want fun go to the HL room and do 20 spins on a $10 machine, 8 on a $25, etc.
I think for $5 and $10 machines you want to play max credits, which is usually 2 or 3, to be eligible for the big jackpots.
It will play the same as 2 $100 bills from my pocket. So, I play it the same way. It really is the same as cash.
I always think of my freeplay as additional bankroll for the trip, so I play it through the best VP I can find and cash out whatever I get and add that to my trip bankroll. Usually I get around 100% of it in cash, sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less. If you wanna think of it as fun bonus cash, then a nice HL slot like people above have said. It will give you a momentary thrill and chance at a trip-changing jackpot. If I were thinking of it in this way I would do 10 pulls on a $10, 2-credit max bet reel slot. Either way, have fun!
Thanks for your replies guys. I have had free play at my locals. This is the first decent free play offer I have had in Vegas. I dabbled on DDB poker last year for the first time, and did pretty well. I am normally a penny or 5 cent slot player. I only play the higher end machines if I have a good hit. There is a video poker machine at the hooker seat at an unnamed Vegas bar that I have seen hit a royal 3 out of the last 3 trips. Not me though. I am torn between playing it at $1 denom for a while or just saying screw it and play a $5 or $10 slot machine in some HL room. I have 3 months to decide.
I would spend freeplay the same as if I brought it along with me. I'd use that instead of cash as part of my first days bankroll. I might play a higher denomination VP game if I was feeling crazy, but that's about it. I'm also boring.
I would load it on a video roulette (the big green ones). Find the one machine that has hit several black or red consecutively, then go the other way. Wager the entire $200 if you can. That will get you going for sure. Sometimes these machines won't even let you load FREEPLAY.
I would use it on the quick hits and look for one of the machines with a higher pot. I have seen those machines hit often and give the jackpot. One time at the mirage watched a guy hit on 3 machines one after the other. He would hit get paid out move to next one in a matter of a couple spins he hit another $1000 dollars. I couldn't believe it.
I would consider that as part of your bankroll for the trip, if you lose it then it wasn't really lost but if you win it will be a bonus!
Depends on what $200 is in proportion to your regular daily (or trip) coin in, and where you're playing. Let's say you're downtown or off-strip and your daily coin in is $1,000 (doubtful that you'd be getting $200 freeplay at that level, but just for illustration). If you use it conservatively and convert it to $160, that extra $160 of bankroll played back through might be enough to bump you up a comp level and result in a slightly better offer. But if your daily coin in is $4,000 or $5,000, then another $160 is nothing, churning it back through isn't going to affect your offers, and I'd say take a shot in HL. Go for a lower-variance slot like single line Double Diamond with a low top-line jackpot, at a denom that's 5x your normal per spin bet.
Like many others, I typically use free play on a higher denomination machine than I would normally play in the hope of catching a nice hit, however I typically play video poker instead of slots. So, if I normally were to play $1 VP, I might kick it up to $2 VP. If I went with slots, I would hit up the $5 Double Diamond machine and simply play one coin since it has no penalty and also because it has such a low jackpot. Or maybe the $1 WOF that takes 5 coins.
