Hello all, I've recently converted from tables to slots. I'm simply looking for some info regarding what kind of coin in it takes to get free nights, etc. On our last trip, the GF and I(linked) put $9000 coin in over our two night stay at MGM. What might that get us? What do the higher end casinos require? I've been pretty successful getting decent comps despite meager table play at V/P and Cosmo.

I imagine this has been covered 1000 times, but I didn't notice anything on the first couple pages, so I apologize if I missed an obvious thread.

Hi 7, it depends on where you stay. MGM is not a 5 star, but, from everything I read, can be a bit tighter on comps. 9k over 2 days/4500k, many will say, is not enough to get comps, but I have found it can be high enough, depending on play hours, consistency and hotel.

I am a hardcore Aria guest/fan, and I fell into Aria by dropping about 4k (coin-in, not bankroll) in one day while staying at Monte Carlo. Aria sent me 3 nights free for my next trip, and the rest is history, I've been enjoying comped stays ever since, and its become my homebase.

I have had fully-comped trips on 5k -10k coin in daily, but remember, a LOT goes into their algorithms, hours of play per day, consistency of play per day, (e.g. 4500k daily for 3 days...totaling 12-ish k total is good, 9k one day with 1.5 k two other days makes you less attractive), time of year, etc.

I personally target front end comps (though I also hit back-end comps, but this is gravy for me, not part of my budget), and you need to play at an mlife casino to get that specific hotel's promos usually.

If MGM does NOT send you good front end comps for 4500k daily coin in, I'd nix them in the future. Drop a few hours of play in a few mlife casinos (that you like) next time, and see who sends you goods promos. Or, if you want it for this trip, call around. I was a mirage regular, hit a bump, and called MC (below) and they offered to match my offer.

Speaking of, Monte Carlo is a GREAT starter casino as they're mid-tier, and very generous with comps. Great location, and even though I've moved onto different hotels, I still might add a few nights there on my next trip, just because I love their lazy river pool. (And my hubby LOVES Diablo, a really cool bar with really good, affordable food. Their steak nachos made Maxim Magazine's best nachos nationally!)

Long story short, at the right hotel, 4500 coin in daily (if the other metrics add up, 4 hours plus per day, consistent play, etc.) should win you free rooms, at the right hotel (almost guaranteed at Monte Carlo) plus possibly a modest r/c comp ($50 - $100). Not sure if it will at MGM, they almost seem tighter than some of the great newer 5 star hotels out there!

I'm not sure how having done the play with linked accounts will affect this.

But if you were to average $4,500/day coin in on slots on a single account, that's probably right on the borderline of good enough to get you 3 night offers at MGM Grand. They do seem to be tightening, so you may get offers for less nights, but with some freeplay and resort credit thrown in.

I disagree with multi about time played and how your play is spread over days, I don't see how either of those should make any difference. Two players use the same machine, one hits the button twice as fast as the other, one does twice as much coin in over the same amount of time. A couple of years ago I started heavily front-loading my play into the first two nights of 5 - 7 night stays at every casino I stay at, and I haven't see any effect on my offers.

I can see where denomination/# of spins might make a difference. The casino might view someone who does 10 spins on a $100 machine differently than 1,000 spins on a $1. The $1 player is giving the casino more of a chance for the theoretical return to play out in it's favor. And clearly, the $1 player has to play for more time in order to do those 1,000 spins. But time itself is just a side effect of the denomination he's playing and the number of spins it takes to get to $1,000 coin in.

Holy crap, being consistent with play each day is important? I thought for Mlife, they focused on ADT for the trip?

I don't think you have to watch each day like a hawk, I'm just saying playing heavily on your first day, then camping on your last two doesn't seem to have always good results, from what I've read over and over again. I personally always play pretty consistently, so don't have experience low-playing on certain days. Who knows, maybe I'm being overly cautious, it wouldn't be the first time! ;) If Chuck has done it, with ok results, I'd absolutely go off his advice, as he has more experience on front-loading.

I just will always be a little more conservative on advice as, I don't want to guide loosely and have someone disappointed. (Kind of like cooking, if I cook myself, it's a little of this or that, but if I give a recipe, I'm much more granular on details!) For me, I have an "if it ain't broke" approach, I've been so happy with my comps, I've just been careful not to deviate too much.

I also just saw Chuck's note on "Linked Accounts," I also was basing my "4500 should get you promos" off of one account. I too am not sure on linked accounts. You've got two votes that you have a shot at promos for 4500 daily on one account, but not sure on linked accounts. If you remember, let us know what comes in, as I'd be curious! I'm hoping you get some solid promos!

P.S. Chuck, let me know if you front load on future trips and if it works. I've been really careful to be pretty consistent on play, and if I AM being overly cautious, and can get the same comps without watching it daily, it'd be nice to know, as I usually avoid gambling on a last day if I leave in the morning!

    Re the mlife 'linked' accounts:
The linked account accrues tier credit points and HGS points based on both card accounts linked together - notice online that your tier credit number is the same tier credit as your gf's - since they are linked. Tier credits determine card status like pearl, gold, platinum, etc.

However, for room offers (comp room, Freeplay, RC), it is based on each card account separately, based on play, with one of them being considered 'primary'. So to get the very best comp offers, it is better to choose one of the two accounts, get extra cards for that account, and both of you play mostly on that account if looking for good comp offers.

    Example:
    Your acct: m123
    GF acct: m456

Linked: m123 + m456 = total tier credits, tier level, and total HGS points, so if one is platinum, both are platinum status.

But, from a players perspective: say together the both of you have $10,000 spend daily, your account spend is $4,000 and GF is $6,000. (Also ADT, hours played, coin in, etc are factored in, but for this example stick with spend to get the picture).
Based on her play, she would get a better offer than you.

To get the best/biggest room comp offers, you should choose one of the accounts, then get an extra card for that account. If both of you play just on her account (2 cards in her name (M456) - each of you playing on her account) - this applies to slots and VP only - your daily spend is now $10,000 on one card - and will result in much better offers, guaranteed. This method works best when you traditionally travel together to maximize your comp offers. On separate trips, you would each need to play your own account card. Or if you are both really high rollers, you would probably play separate accounts. You still need to play your own cards for table games.

My husband and I have done this for years at Mlife - separately, we might be gold but together not only are we platinum, but my offers are huge in comparison to playing on separate cards since we use my card 90% of the time and 10% on his to keep it active. Linked total account points are not used in determining offers, offers are based on each individual account card.

Call mlife and ask to speak to a host on duty - ask them to look at your linked account and tell you which of the two is considered 'primary' for offer purposes, and choose that card to primarily play on. They should be able to answer other questions as well.

I'm sure if I have misstated or confused terminology, others here will weigh in and set it straight - I'm not an expert here, but this is based on my experience and information from hosts I have asked in the past. I totally stay away from ADT - lots of real experts here can help on that if needed.

    Good luck.

Not sure what you mean about the linked cards generating separate offers, they only send the offers to the primary player on the link. My husband and I are joined and we get all the offers through my card. He uses his card exclusively and I use mine, that way we both generate individual point play, but we share all the express comp totals together.

Me too. My linked player gets all the offers though we play pretty much the same. She was originally the primary card holder, then it switched to me at some point, then back to her, I only knew who was primary and when because to book the platinum cruise benefit, only the primary holder could use it if the linked person wasn't travelling too. I think their system is hugely flawed.

I just logged into mlife, and our HGS points are also different right now when they're not supposed to be, then one time we stopped accumulating tier credits and if I didn't notice, we would have been screwed out of platinum. Their system registered us as gold with platinum points... the list goes on.

Mlife looks at trip, not daily/
Linking accounts can hurt. Offers are still based on each person.
Put all the play on one account.

We are low rollers with linked accounts and my husband was the one who got all the offers. Until last year I did see a couple offers for Monte Carlo and for Mirage but my husband had better ones including the corporate offer at all properties. We did also mostly play on his card as mentioned above. In May I stayed at Aria on one of his offers (which is allowed with linked accounts). It was the first time we didn't travel together. Now suddenly all the offers are coming to me and he has none. Even the mailers are in my name. He thinks I set it up that way on purpose when I was in Vegas but I swear I didn't LOL.

    THIS!!

DH & I have linked accounts but we play on my card 95% of the time. Through this we get much better offers. His offers are nothing next to mine. If you are looking for better offers put more play on one card.

IF you don't travel together all the time this may not be the system for you; having a good host would be the game changer for you in that case. The primary card holder gets the better offers and the secondary card holder gets offers based on their card play only. How they determine which is the primary card holder baffles me, I tend to think the bigger player ends up the primary.

This was the reply I got when I asked earlier this year.

"Thank you for contacting M life Member Services. One of the benefits of having your accounts linked with your husband, is that you have access to his promotional offers and vice versa without the other party being present. The only reason why it shows up on his account is because his date of birth comes first so all offers filter onto his side. If we can be of any further assistance, or if you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact us. Thank you for very for your inquiry and we look forward to having you join us in the near future. "

This can't be true since I am now the one getting all the offers. It must be based on who plays more and since I went without him I obviously played more.

Using linked players offers without travelling together has recently become tricky. Some properties have given difficulty with this (Monte, Luxor to name two). Most recently the Mirage as well, though we have a host who was able to sort it all out, but originally front desk didn't want to check me in because my linked player wasn't with me. The Monte flat our refused to check in my linked player because she wasn't with me either and it wasn't until I called to ask what the F is going on that they allowed it. And Luxor, well they just flat out refused to book me on an offer my linked player had.

Honestly, I think it depends on the person, the day and the time at Mlife, and if you don't know what benefits you're entitled to, you won't get them.
