Just go back from Vegas and stayed at Venetian.
During this trip I had a chance to shoot craps with this man.

On Wed July 6 on the main pit $15 min table.

On Fri July 8 in the afternoon $15 min table next to the one we shoot on Wed.

I think he played on that table before moved over to my table that I was playing.

He played the numbers and odds. He is small, skinny and speak Japanese but he did talked much.

1 st section on Wed he won over 18 k.
2 nd sec on Fri he won over 56 k.
He played pass line and odds. He got a couple of good rolls and all his numbers covered.
One time I saw couple of yellow on the bottom of stack he put out for pass line.
Just the way he played was really odd to me.
He recorded every number came out on his small notebook.
whenever he put odds for his numbers he refered to his notes.

The funny things were on Wed when he colored up he just gave the crew a less than $100
and on Fri with a stack of red and white chips less than $200.

How much do you think he should have tipped?

Can another source verify that he was Japanese?

Would the dealer have tipped him if he lost? Did the dealer throw the dice for him or tell him where to bet?

Maybe he was money laundering and the cartel would murder him for over tipping.

Actually a number of societies do not believe in tipping. Japan is one of them, they do not tip very much at restaurants and believe that the business should pay their employees well enough so guests do not have to tip. China is also another society that doesn't believe in tipping, even in Hawaii Chinese people do not tip a lot at Chinese restaurants (or maybe they are just using that excuse to be cheap).

I know tipping is optional but when he made a point like 6 he put a green chip for the hard way and 1 white for the crew..

The crew were friendly and coutersy.
When he made his point he doubled check notebook for the corrected payout and waited for him...

I played the dark side before he joined but after he made some points I made the switch.

After he colored up I stayed for a while and got out of that section up about 600.

A couple players from the other side of the rail made some money too and came to thank him for the good rolls...

He , if you threw your point and the crew pay your bets with 2 purple , couple of yellow and some blacks.

At least you can throw to them a couple of reds or a green to show a token of appreciation..

But the thing is, it's his money, he can overtip/undertip, stiff completely, it's his call. I think a $100 - $200 is pretty good, some people throw money away trying to show off, some dont, it's none of our business.

Isn't that their job though? I am sure the crew is not sweating it and probably already forgot about the guy by now..

    Everyone tips differently.

You can talk about the crew being good and friendly, but you judged his tip in proportion to his win. So what happens when a bunch of incompetent jerks are a crew in casino A, and the player wins 50k, and he dumps it back at casino B, which has a good crew?

Tip traditions are what they are, but they are seldom logical or really even based on fairness. So by all means tip how you feel is right. But to each their own.

Sadly, for me, the amount of alcohol determines my tip amount, no so much my win amount :D

Just my observation I think he was a whale but like the social aspect of the game but did not want to play by himself in the high limit room .

The crew they all remembered him after he won on Wed.
When he came to my table on Fri , there were couple suits came around and talking and checking ...
when other players roll the dice, he put at least green chip out and back up his odd with couples black chips.

when he throw the dice, he puts his pass line at least 5 blacks and couples banana on odds.

I am happy for him to win some money and during those section he never ordered any drink even a bottle of water...

if he's playing greens and blacks...he's not even close to a whale barely a High Roller...
tipping is what it is..if he felt he didn't get good service then he tipped what he felt fair.

Mostly us Brits don't tip as a general rule, certainly I would not tip at Craps or BJ just because I won.
