A host made an offer to a friend of mine. After he didn't play because they had to leave due to a medical emergency the host said that the comp was "void" since he didn't play and he was charging my friend $2,000.

I helped my friend and told him to call the VP or supervisor of the host and make sure to have all the emails the host had sent him. Sure enough the VP called an apologized and refunded everything.

Make sure hosts live up to their word, and they cannot "revoke" a comp after they make you an offer.

Id' rather not say. Rather, I'm coming to this forum to warn others that they do have recourse, and casino hosts cannot just lie to you. You have cards to play and that's going to the casino hosts supervisor or VP of marketing.

Without knowing the casino, it does not help much.

Also, was this an upfront comp? Or was a deal where your friend indicated a play level and the host said he would comp at the end?

I have low played up front offers at CET often and never had an issue.

Most of my offers are upfront vs the come and play and we should be fine deals.

2000$'s Guessing it wasn't an off-strip / downtown casino pandering to the local crowd. I agree with above...not much help with such limited information. Hopefully it will be amended at a later time.

I think reading the fine print might be in order.

I received a comp that included the statement:

"Offer is expressly conditioned upon recipient maintaining his or her historical level of play as of the mailing date of this offer. Failure to maintain historical level of play may result in revocation of offer."

If your friend had a bonafide medical emergency, he could have notified his host and made all this "drama" moot.

Conditional comps are much more common these days due to players low/no playing.

I had to cancel a stay mid trip and notified my host due to my father being ill and everything was taken care of.

I'm with dailun here and I'm sure they would've been understanding if they related he emergency.

Was this a host employed by the property or an independent?

That seems odd. Its one thing to low play and never recieve another offer but its another to be charged on an upfront comp after the fact, if thats what it was. Definetely need more info here before people can be cautious about it.

I never read the fine print while signing in but last time while signing in st Wynn it said conditional. I'm rfb and have never been changed for anything except tips and retail store purchases. So I'm a little surprised they comped with no play and probably no history. The vp probably just wrote it off as a gesture. Need more info though on this one though.

This is definitely appearing more and more as far as I know. And it should be a CYA procedure by the casino. If a medical emergency is involved and the host is notified, I agree it should be a non-issue as long as the history is there.

Let's not overgeneralize. There are offers that specifically state play is required or the offer is revoked. I've seen plenty of situations where a host has been understanding because of a medical situation but that has been dependent not only on having pertinent information but also a good overall track record of play. I'm glad that your friend got things worked out but I would hate someone to think a no play trip can't ever have consequences.

Pretty sure they can do whatever they want. That is what caused all the hoopla with the Sands Corp. (Venetian/Palazzo) back in 2011 when they suddenly decided to UN-COMP people who had already booked comped rooms.

Yes, and I think lots of folks stopped going there for that reason.

As to it happening often in any casino - I sure have not seen reports here of it. And that is surely something folks would report. Then again, many of us would never, ever, ever dream of going to Vegas and not playing. I have often low played certain offers, but never a no-play.

we were one of the people who were ceremoniously dumped by V/P, just before that we went to get our limo back to the airport and they pulled that (average over 25k/day). Have not and never will go back, though we have had many offers. Sticking with CET as there are too many options to stay with them nation wide. As far as being charged for no play for medical emergency reasons it should be handled as everyone has stated. However I would not let it go there is always another rung to talk to up the ladder..........Rick

Had a conditional offer from Delano Marketing rep comped based on previous play, because my offers were trash on MLIFE website. She put "lack of casino play can result in removal of comps and I must play enough to cover the $1100 comp room value" Offers finally came in with FP & RC on website and she re booked on offer from MLIFE website. Confirmation letter wording was completely different regarding "casino play". Corporate/email offers are the way to go for low rollers like myself. No expectations from anyone and you just play.

So glad I dont have a host. As I get comp rooms from most MGM properties via corporate/email offers and a few years back booked a three night stay at MGM hotel with 150 FP and 200 Resort credit. Didn't gamble more than $600 dollars and I think I earned .86 cents on my express comps just to show you what I was rated at. Well, didn't get charged anything. Just affected my future offers, but those after two more visits got back on track. Heading to the Bellagio on 9/8-9/11 on a three night comp with $100 credit. No pressure at all when dealing with just a computer system.

That is standard language and nothing to be concerned about. If they comp you upfront and you don't play 1 penny with them, there is nothing they can do about it on your current trip. And I have done that many times over the years.

MGM property. host expressly stated up front offer in email exchanges, WHICH I KEPT. Something to always keep.

The Venetian/palazzo thing is effed up, but the whole story is not clear to me. If you got to the hotel and they said they weren't comping the room anymore, then that's just bad business ethics and you don't have any recourse

But in my friends case, he signed that the room was comped, he did not agree to any nightly rate, he agreed to the offer the host put up for him and then someone got sick and we had to go home. But in my friends case, he signed that the room was comped he did not agree to any nightly rate, he agreed to the offer the host put up for him, and then someone got sick and we left 2 days early.

The whole point of all this is that if a casino tries to charge you AFTER it was promised and agreed upon on to be comped, they cannot reverse that. And you keep talking to the senior person and up and up the chain until they still say no then you go to the credit card company and show the emails/and check out slip saying it was comped and chargeback the fraudulent charges.
