Thinking about changing my reservations from Hotel 32 to Delano for the week of Thanksgiving. I hardly ever get that far south on the strip so I was wondering if anyone could help me with the following questions. 1. I have a CPAP machine and I need to get some distilled water. I won't have a car and I'm curious if there is a drug store within reasonable walking distance. 2. Are the food options better at MB than at MC? 3. The main purpose of my trip is to just veg out and watch all the great college football rivalry games on Thanksgiving weekend. Is the sportsbook at MB a good venue for this, basically just chilling by myself and watching a few football games each day? 4. I'm going to book a Strip View King Suite. This may sound a bit off but I hope they do not consider rooms that look south a strip view. Hopefully all their Strip View rooms face north. Can anyone verify this? Even though I only have about ten days and a wake up before I get to Vegas to check things out I kind of want to book it now because the rates are surprisingly reasonable. Thanks VMBers........
The closest CVS or Walgreens is the CVS near MC. There's an ABC Stores store across from NYNY, but I wouldn't count on it having distilled water. You could consider having the taxi stop at the Vons supermarket on Maryland Pkwy near UNLV. Or check out the McCarran website and see if there's any place that might have it. There's a small strip mall across the street from MB I know it has a liquor store but I don;'t know much else about it, maybe looking at Google street view will tip you off if there's a place that might have the water. I'd say aside from MC having a food court, MB has better options. I think Luxor has a small food court. There's a shops passageway between MB and Luxor that has a couple of restaurants including a pizza place. The MB complex is pretty self-sufficient; when I used to stay there for 4 or 5 nights, I never left the building. I've never spent a lot of time in it, but I thought the MB sportsbook was OK, it's decent sized and it'll also be convenient because it's right at the end of the hallway between Delano and MB. Delano is shaped like an "L" I'm 99.99% sure that what they advertise as Strip View room are going to be on the inside of the L. So your view will either be East (but you will also be able to see north up the strip), or straight North. I haven't been there since it was THEhotel, but the numbering scheme used to be the "9" wing is the one that will have eastern views, the 8 wing will have northern views. If that's still true then you want a room number like 33-813, where 33 is the floor, 8 is the wing, and 13, an odd number, is on the inside.
I have been on CPAP for 6 years. The distilled water thing is overkill. You can use regular water and will be fine. Do research elsewhere. I use filtered water at home. Also, just recently, due to a 3 week extended multi country trip, I tried using my CPAP without the humidifier. Works great and I no longer use the humidifier at all when we travel anyways. Food at M-Bay is way better than MC. Way better. Fairly large sports book at MBay that should have games. And lots of sit down bars.. guessing a few might have games as well. And, you can easily walk through Luxor and Excal without going outside. Then short walk across to NYNY.
Love the Delano but aside from bringing in your own distilled water, you would need a car to get one as there's nothing within walking distance. The Walgreens right across the street from Monte Carlo would be your best bet.
Delano is a great property. I would ask them about providing distilled water. The hotel is run by the Morgans Hotel group (high end) rather than MGM, so they might be able to give you what you need. The big issue is location on the strip. MC is in the middle of things, Delano is part of Mandalay Bay. If Strip activities are key, go with MC, if you want a great resort with tons of amenities and being center strip is secondary go with Delano. I stayed in a X901 room which was due West. Not awful since there was a view of the mountains and Orleans, Rio, Palms, but not strip view. Mandalay Bay's sportsbook is very close to the entrance to Delano and it is a huge, nice sportsbook. The MB complex has a lot of great restaurants. One issue for Hotel 32 is the imminent renovation of Hotel 32 into NoMad and the renovation of Monte Carlo into the MGM Park. I would hate to get caught up in that. ...and there is nothing wrong with taking Uber/Lyft to get any supplies you need.
Can't really help with Nos. 1 & 4 (though, I can't imagine that anywhere on the strip is far from a drug store). 2. Unquestionably. Boatload of options at all price levels. (I really like Fleur if you're looking for recommendations.) That said, MC's location - connected to Aria, close-ish to MGM and with easy access to Bellagio via the tram - provides so many great options. 3. IMO, the book at MB is far superior to the one at MC.
I think this is a "no brainer" move. Chuck2009x already hit the high points, especially with the Romm77.com screen cap. If you have never stayed at Mandalay Bay or Delano then I highly recommend that you try it out. We stayed at the Delano last year over Labor Day. The rooms are great. The sports book is big and a close walk from the Delano lobby. The restaurant selection just destroys what you get at MC, and it isn't close. There are something like 30 restaurants in the MB/Delano/4 Seasons complex, including the ones in the Shoppes on the way to the Luxor. Regarding distilled water, there is a gas station and a liquor store in the little strip mall across the strip from MB. It won't be CVS but it will have what you need.
