Are you suppose to hold a kicker or just the aces?

In double bonus holding the kicker would be a poor idea.

Since there is no kicker in double bonus...

I think that is double double bonus. I still don't hold the kicker.

    I think DDB pays 3 for 1 on a 3OAK. The board shown paid 2 for 1.

Yeah, that looks like TDB. Which I believe you do hold the kicker for.

    Ackkkkkkkk!!!!

There are a couple VP variants you should NEVER play without betting max. Namely any game that offers a Royal-sized payout for hands that aren't a Royal Flush.

    Examples:
"AC" Joker Poker, where 5 of a kind pays 4000 for 5

Triple Double Bonus where Aces w/kicker pays 4000 for 5.

In both of these games, if you bet less than 5, these payouts get shorted from 800 for 1 to 400 for 1.

Short coining costs you about 3.5% in Triple Double Bonus vs. 1.25% in most other games.

And since the Aces w/kicker payout got shorted to 400 for 1, DDB strategy actually applies for Aces.

Generally speaking though, Paul, at max bet (and min bet for Double Double Bonus) the following rules apply.

Double Double Bonus: Never hold a kicker.
Triple Double Bonus: Always hold an available kicker.

But more importantly, NEVER play Triple Double Bonus without betting max! Play Double Double Bonus if you're only going to bet 1 credit.
