Just looking for some feedback from anyone who's stayed at both. I really like MGM. Probably what I would consider "home base" but, the wife and I have always wanted to stay at each hotel at least once. I'm going back to Vegas in September to see George Strait. I have an offer for both resorts so price won't be an issue. I like to throw dice and she likes to play roulette and we generally walk the strip and bounce around between resorts and bars. So whats the difference in y'alls honest opinion?

Been to both. Just a different feel. Mirage not as spread out as MGM. Great sports book video. Much more intimate pool are vs MGM massive pool area. Closer to other casinos if you want to wander a bit, but not as close to MGM casinos.

Hard to really pinpoint anything, but we tend to like Mirage a bit more - though M-Bay is really nice.

One vote for The Mirage, here.

The elevator wings are a complete nightmare at MGM. Way too crowded for my impatient-self...vowed to never stay again after my experience last Summer.

I'm sure that doesn't help, but it's keen insight you won't find in many other forums.

I prefer the MGM, my wife prefers the Mirage. I think the room quality is about the same for both resorts. The MGM has larger bathrooms.
    Why I prefer the MGM:
    1) The Lazy River/Pool
    2) Pub 1842 & Fat Tuesday
    3) Massive casino
    4) We always request a room that's on the way out to the pool area. This way we totally avoid the main elevators and traffic. I think there are only 3 floors on that wing, so if you can get a room on the first floor you're basically just feet from the casino (but we've never had a view from these rooms.)

    Why my wife likes Mirage:
    1) Close proximity to Fashion Mall
    2) Close proximity to Fashion Mall
    3) Close proximity to Fashion Mall

The Pantry is also a great go-to for food any time. We both like Mirage's pool, but I need the Lazy River:)
Don't think you can go wrong with either. As mentioned above they have a different feel but I've always had fun at Mirage too.

Stayed at mirage and really enjoyed to point going back this summer. Pros:

    - amazing pool
    - plenty of places to eat and loved Carnegie deli
    - great sports book and poker room
    - location location location

Stayed mgm on split stay six years ago and wasn't for me. Too large, seemed too dark or dreery inside, and too far south. If was as nice as Mandalay would make up for location, but didn't think it was.

I've not stayed at Mirage yet (have a trip booked for July) but if you like to bounce around then Mirage is definitely preferable. I like MGM a lot and spend time there on every trip, but the place is just so gosh dang enormous. When I stayed there, no matter where I wanted to go it felt like it took forever to get there.

I have stayed at both and enjoy both.
Mirage pool feels more tropical to me but was very crowded at busy times. MGM seemed easier to find a lounger even when busy. The rooms are about the same quality wise but I prefer the beds at MGM. If you primarily stay inside your home resort it doesn't matter, if you like to hop around Mirage is much more convenient. However, if you want to focus your play and dining in mlife resorts mom has a better location for that.
My preference is MGM but if you haven't stayed at Mirage I would try it, you'll enjoy it.

Happy wife, happy life! I love both resorts but would only choose MGM over Mirage because I hate their dolphin and tiger exhibits. Otherwise, mirage is my favorite. I find the MGM too big and too busy. Mirage has the volcano and is a quick step away from Bellagio and Caesars. Mirage's pool feels like you're in the Bahamas!

I like both but If you'd never stayed at Mirage it's worth a try... I think they are the best 2 pools in Vegas. Both have very nice rooms and dining options are immense.
I stay at the MGM often but last time about a month ago it was like a gang convention was going on... Lots of very unsavory looking characters roaming around. Noticed this pattern that last few times I've been there...

Personally I would rank them about the same and would choose MGM based on location. I like that part of the strip more.

I like both hotels, but my last few stays at Mirage left me disappointed with the casino. I found the vibe in the casino to be a bit depressing.

    I would pick MGM.

Mirage - rooms are nice, good vibe in the casino, and restaurants are good. It also has the advantage of being located near TI and Casino Royale if you want some cheap gambling action.

We love Mirage, the tropical vibe, great pool and for us location on strip is perfect. That said, MGM casino has always been where we liked to play the most, and I would like to stay there sometime, assuming I can figure out which are the older rooms I'd like to avoid, based on others' trip reports.

Let us know what you decide!

I know MGM was just renovated a few years ago, are there still crappy rooms that should be avoided?

No, but the west wing rooms are dark and very small compared to the grand tower. Mgm's rooms are newer than mirage now.

Any room with "West Wing" in the title should be avoided. Very small and cramped. The Grand King rooms are very nice, standard rooms, and were renovated about 2-3 yrs ago (IIRC).

OP has offers from both properties so it's very unlikely that he's on the lowest tier, thus he won't be paying a cent for parking.

I cant stand the MGM outside of the restaurants( also not a real big fan of the south strip)...Mirage in a heartbeat ( and FWIW) for me that's saying a lot . I couldn't win there to save my life...

I've never stayed at MGM, but I've stayed at the Mirage my last 2 trips and loved it. I like that part of the strip better and it isn't too big where I get lost. Some people like the other end of the strip better and like the huge megaresorts like MGM and Caesars. Both rooms will be plenty nice and comparable, it's just a matter of preference as to what you'd rather have outside the room.
