Heading to Gatlinburg area next week for a family vacation. My uncle has a friend who has a cabin there that's really nice and I've been there before, but way back when I was in college. It was around 2000 I think and I wasn't old enough to gamble then.

Mostly going to relax and play some heated games of Rook. I remember there not being a ton to do, which is fine with me because I wouldn't mind reading and just hanging out for a while but I saw where Harrahs Cherokee is about an hour away. Is it worth a trip? Table games have good odds? Slots tight? VP playable? Free drinks? Any info is welcome. Thanks.

Harrahs has changed quite a bit in the last few years. It is very large and has every game Las Vegas casino. It has three hotels but looks like you won't need a room. Plenty of penny quarter and dollar slot machines. Most table games including BJ, Craps, 3 card and 4 card poker, Mississippi Stud and others I can't remember. It is a nice drive through the mountains from Gatlinburg in the National Forest. Go and enjoy yourself. If you are a Harrahs reward card member use the card for rewards.

Nice casino, but no free drinks, and slots are very tight. Depending on when you go, especially Saturday nights, it can be hard to get on a lot of the machines. But it is a large casino with lots of tables and slots. We go maybe twice a year and love the drive!

Drive over the mountain is very scenic and can be slow depending on tourists. If you are a CET regular, you might think about a room for the night as I would not drive that road after dark, especially after a few drinks.

There are three hotel wings, but really just one hotel. Nice Diamond lounge. Drinks are not free, but cheap (state law). Fun place. Go there often.

I recommend visiting the casino towards the end of your 'cabin adventure'. It's a beautiful modern casino that will put a spell on you. If you visit at the beginning of your cabin adventure you won't want to go back to the cabin; you won't be in the cabin frame of mind anymore but will want to be in the big new modern shiny casino and you won't enjoy the rest of the trip. Enjoy the first part of the trip for what it is...a cabin stay in the beautiful mountains, then, at the end, switch gears and drive to the casino.

I'm in Atlanta and head up there a few times a year. Slots are tight, but I'm a table games guy, so that's not that big of a drag. Drinks aren't free, but are cheap (and half-priced on top of that in the diamond lounge if you are diamond). The casino itself is really nice. The rooms are nicer than any standard room I've stayed in in Vegas (barring the Cromwell...maybe, though the rooms in Cherokee are bigger). Dinner options are limited, but a Brio Italian and Ruth Chris are pretty good.

I live in NC and play Cherokee fairly regularly. My games are craps and blackjack. They usually have a $10 minimum craps table open...sometimes in off hours, they will drop the minimum down to $5. Blackjack games on the main floor are all 6 deck, 3:2, double after split, but no resplit aces and no surrender. Most tables are $15 minimum. There's always one $5 table, but it's always full (and often has people waiting to play). There are also several $25 minimum tables.

Overall, it's a very nice casino in a gorgeous part of the country.

Also in NC and make the trek about 4 or 5 times a year. They have recently added two 2-deck pitch games for BJ in the High Limit rooms...one at the $50 minimum...the other at the $100. I like to handle the cards, so this has been an enjoyable change of pace. In addition to BJ, Craps and Roulette they have several of the specialty games - 3-Card Poker, Hi-card Flush, Let it Ride, Mini-Bac, etc. There is also a decent poker room near Brio on the second floor that has a WSOP circuit games finishing up this weekend.

We are making a trip up to Raleigh to visit family in between Christmas and New Year so will be heading over to Cherokee for a few days.
Never been to Cherokee before and we are looking forward to seeing what we hear is a beautiful area.
I just hope the BJ tables and slots are kind to us while we are there.

The BJ is good if you don't mind $15/hand minimums (on the + side, I think the BJ is all 3:2). The payback on slots is terrible. The hotel is nicer than most CET props in LV, and the drinks, while not free, are reasonably priced.

    Thanks for the info.
Are the BJ games there at the lower limit tables typically dealt from a traditional shoe or CSM?

    Thanks again

Traditional shoe (6 deck, I'd assume)

They're dealt from a 6-deck shoe. No CSMs, but they do use automatic shuffling machines on the main floor.

Stayed there for a night this past week after visiting family in Winston-Salem for the holidays. I'd been once before and enjoyed it, so I was excited to go back. Room rates were sky-high ($400+), so I'd planned on staying at one of the cheaper hotels across the street. I signed up for a Total Rewards account the night before I made the drive, and decided to hold off on booking until I left that afternoon. Lo and behold I checked on the TR app as I was leaving and I had my choice of rooms at Harrah's comped. This despite the fact that I had zero TR points and had just opened the account. Great way to start the trip. Circled back to see that the rates had dropped to $109 after I booked the comped room, so it may be beneficial to hold off on booking a room until the day of your trip.

As others have said it's a nice property and lot of fun. If you're a drinker, be advised that they stop selling booze at 2am. Pit boss even came around and took everyone's drinks at 2:15am. Stock up on booze to keep in your hotel room if you plan on partying later than that. Also be prepared to disguise your drink if you want to make a cocktail in your room and bring it back down while you continue gambling.

Before discussing the casino, please please please go to Crocketts Breakfast Camp in Gatlinburg. It was probably one of the best breakfasts Ive ever had.....ANYWHERE! Its right on the main Strip there in Gatlinburg and hard to miss due to their large skillet sign. http://crockettsbreakfastcamp.com/ I added some photos below of the meals my brother and I had. Eggs benny/pot roast benny/giant cinnamon roll. IMG_2141.JPG IMG_2140.JPG IMG_2139.JPG

As flights from CLE-ATL are rather cheap and my brother lives in the burbs of ATL, we usually take a 2 day trip to Cherokee. We are mostly penny/quarter slot players and even with minimal play, we are always easily comped Sun-Thurs when we combine our cards on the TR site. My impression for the 8 nights (over a few years) are as follows:

    - Very very clean. Im usually there mid-week and it always seems sort of dead through the day and night. Rooms are spacious and clean as well.
    - They have a good sports watching bar, Essence. Although its usually dead.
    - Outside of Vegas, I think their buffet is the best casino buffet offered. Their "comfort food" section is original and delicious. Tons of offerings. The BBQ is probably my fav.
    - The other restaurant I really enjoy is Selu which is the old Paula Deans. They do a great sandwich/soup lunch bar for around $12-$13. Its sort of like an omelette station where you go to the counter, pick from a huge variety of meats/cheeses/toppings and they build it and grill it for for. Its really delicious. I think I had a prime rib and turkey there with lots of toppings and its delicious.
    - I usually make a large mixed drink in a Coke bottle and carry it with me while I gamble. I've never been stopped or questioned.
    - Everyone Ive come in contact with is always nice and courteous.

However like others have stated, the slots are tighter then (insert sex reference)...I remember one time I was playing $1 bet on a penny machine, hit the bonus twice, 12 free spins each time, one bonus paid $.80 and another a whopping $0

Agree with what others have posted, so I'll just add a few things.
    • The Diamond Lounge is open every day. I think the website only lists Thu - Sun.
    • Hot food in Diamond Lounge seems to always be Carnitas and BBQ, which is kind of the same thing.
    • Internet is available but is V E R Y slow. If you need something faster, the coffee shop internet is much better.
    • They are missing a few carney games that some of us like to play like Ultimate Texas Holdem and Texas Holdem Bonus.
    • There is a dedicated poker room. All games I've seen are No Limit Holdem and Pot Limit Omaha. No Holdem Limit games.
    • The drink in a soda bottle strategy is the best way to go.

Anyone who normally gets comps for CET in Vegas have any luck getting a comp at Harrah's Cherokee? I currently have comp offers in Vegas, but going to a bachelor party in Asheville and I think I'd like to go a night early to Cherokee to gamble. I'm going to call and see what they can offer either way, but didn't know if anyone on here had any luck with it?
