So every Friday I set my DVR to record shows/movies for the following week. Today I'm going through the six or seven channels that I record and I noticed that TCM (Turner Classic Movies) is chock full of some very, very good movies for the next seven days. Not all are top notch but enough to definitely check it out. Just thought I'd pass this along..... Enjoy VMBers!!!

Well since you brought it up, do you have any recommendations? Not the really famous ones that everyone saw, but more of the hidden gems. Thanks

If you like WWII movies there's a real good one titled "Five Graves to Cairo", on tonight at 9:00 pm CST. "Double Indemnity" follows immediately which is a great film noire.

    Others:

    Rebel Without a Cause
    Dial M for Murder
    The French Connection
    The Seven-Ups
    2010
The Lady from Shanghai (Rita Hayworth...... :p
    On the Waterfront
    East of Eden
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
Key Largo (Bogart at his absolute best)
The Maltese Falcoln (maybe the best film noire of all time)
    A Streetcar Named Desire
The King and I (Yul Brenner at his best)
Guys and Dolls (Brando singing....or at least giving his best effort)

Usually each week TCM may have one or two movies that I'll record but this week has a lot of damn good movies.

Thank you Mike O ! My husband always watches the classics on TCM - somehow he didn't know about this lineup.
    Thanks for tuning us in!

    Good post, Mike. Thanks!

I'll watch anything with Bogie and Bacall whenever it's on. Or a young Katharine Hepburn...yowza!

I have never heard of this movie. Just checked it out on IMDB. I need to keep an eye open for it. Did you see in on TV or DVD? I used to watch Bowery Boys with my grandfather. That and John Wayne movies. Ahh.. childhood memories.

Some good ones on your list Mike! I just re-watched Double Indemnity a few months ago. Great noir! I haven't seen Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Key Largo in too long. I may toss those on the Tivo.

I watch "Let it Ride" every time the night before I go to Vegas. Even though it has nothing to do with Vegas it totally gets me in the mood for gambling. It's a hard movie to find on DVD. What a great cast!!! And Jennifer Tilly, yes, quite the dish. FYI, the gold digger blonde is played by Michelle Phillips from The Mamas & The Papas.

My childhood was spent watching westerns & WWII movies with my dad. (I recall Sunday movies on WGN maybe?) And I cannot stand them! Memories....I'm a big fan of the 1930s mysteries (Thin Man all the way!) and slapdash comedies (Cary Grant - his physical humor, adore!) Never much of a Doris Day fan - the heroines of the 30s & 40s were strong, but then the 50s - eh. Don't like those romantic comedies nearly as much. Though Rock Hudson - I'll watch him if Pillow Talk comes on :goofy:
