I have the fever to go back to Vegas soon. It's my happy place. I have always gone with the person I am dating at the time but I am single now. I know a lot of people travel solo to Vegas but I am still a little apprehensive. I have 5 comped nights at a Caesars property. I was thinking of staying at the Cromwell. It looks beautiful, is in the right spot for me, and is a smaller property. I was looking to go in August. I love playing slot machines, especially the themed ones. I wouldn't call myself a foodie perhaps but I enjoy good food. I don't mind spending money for a nice dinner. I really want to go back to Hugo's Cellar, but I'm not sure how that would work solo. I guess I am just looking for tips and advice for a young professional woman traveling alone. Thanks in advance.

I go to Vegas once or twice a year solo for 8-10 days at a time (mostly to play poker). I love the freedom to do anything I want whenever I want. I can eat whenever I feel like it (or not) rather than follow regular lunch/dinner schedules.

Most restaurants have a bar where you can order the full dining menu, which some find less awkward than sitting at a table solo. You can also chat with the bartender.

I am planning my very first solo trip - hopefully soon. I was apprehensive about it initially but when i posted a thread - many commented on how they loved and enjoyed solo trips. Excellent tips were shared and this has reinforced the idea even further. Good luck planning your trip !!

I've been going to Vegas single for over 20 years and have never had any issues. I love the freedom of doing what I want when I want without having to deal with other people's concerns. I've been in every restaurant and bar (or at least almost all of 'em). When it comes to eating all the restaurants have bars where you can order their full menu and that saves a great deal of time. The bar tenders are usually talkative and entertaining as well. Being alone also has advantages when looking for table games since I can usually choose any table I want.

My only caveat would be to not get too drunk, and stay in well traveled areas after dark. If you're flying solo you'll have to take care of yourself in that regard. If you want company you can usually find a group to hangout with as well without much trouble.

What do you like about Vegas? I started doing solo trips because my ideal Vegas companion was somebody who would eat lunch with me, then leave me alone will I chased the best poker game in town until lunch time the next day. That ideal companion was hard to find.

If your best Vegas memories all involve people you went to Vegas with and you aren't comfortable connecting with strangers for a short time, multiple times, then solo travel is not for you.

Out of my 100+ trips to Vegas, over half have been partially solo for 2-3 days out of an average weeklong trip, and around half a dozen were totally solo. In most cases, I preferred being with my significant other, but having a few days alone were the best of both worlds. Going solo, which is my only option these days, is usually great too, and sure beats the heck out of not going at all. Like many, I don't like dining alone, but have found that enough alcohol makes it a non-issue!

Vegas is a very solo friendly place. I have done 4 or 5 so far and enjoyed them all.

I've been going solo to Vegas for a few years now and I love it! I'm no longer a young professional female, but as an older woman I feel completely safe there. I restrict serious drinking to my home property so I am not out wandering around if I have had too much to drink. I find that now that I have been on the forums for a few years, my solo trips almost always include hanging out with folks I have met on the forums, which is a blast. So I am solo, but not really alone, so I have the best of both worlds!

I go solo every year. Even though my excuse for going every year is an expo, I rarely attend the expo anymore. I do meet up with folks that I have met through the years for dinner one night. Otherwise I'm on my own. I'm not a real outgoing person so I don't 'chat up' people. I have no problem eating alone or seeing the sights by myself. I'm not a big foodie, I eat because I have to, so I don't go to fancy restaurants. I prefer to stay on the strip, tried staying downtown for a few nights this year, didn't really care for it. I always make a list of things to see or do that is followed very loosely, it's more of suggestions and reminders.

My trip last month was basically solo....did have some family that I could meet up with when I wanted but didn't happen much....just loved the freedom of being solo & had a ball. Ate where & when I wanted & could roam around at will. Will definitely do it again! Good luck & enjoy!!!

Well, I'm an older professional (not what some of you are thinking - dirty minds!) woman who does go alone on occasion. :)

You'll probably have a blast but 5 nights solo with no major activity (such as a conference, business meeting, etc.) might be a bit much.

I don't remember the layout of Hugo's Cellar downtown, only been there once, but I've had no problem dining solo either at the bar or at a smaller table for one. I used to bring a book or magazine but now I'll surf on the smart phone or netbook while I'm waiting. I generally don't do the nicer places solo (most recent exception was Chicago Chop House, which sounded good at the time - and was) but I've never had any issues. Mostly I'll do casual or occasionally a buffet.

Anyway, I LOVE to extend a business trip over the preceding weekend and just casino surf and take it easy and enjoy the freedom to do things on my own time when I want as I want as opposed to having to work around others' schedules.

I'm also overdue for a night-time photo walk on the Strip, which I'll do in late July if it's not too hot in the late evening.

I travel solo all the time. I like dressing up and treating myself to nice meals and shows on my own time.

A couple things that are different for solo women: I tend to be cautious late at night as alcohol tends to make some men temporarily forget how to be gentlemen. It doesn't stop me and I've never had anything I couldn't shut down quickly but just if you're a late night person like me, it's something to be aware of. I also select hotels where security checks keys at the elevators. YMMV.

    Have fun!

For me, anyway, evenings in Las Vegas used to be dress-up occasions, even into the 1990s, but since then everyone I visit LV with has been very casual. When I'm solo I'll dress comfortably and very casually.

I know I've told this story before. My first solo trip (actually I did know somebody going to the same conference) was at the Riviera right during the rodeo finals week and I was a bit concerned that some of the cowboy types might come on strong and be obnoxious and such. Those guys were perfect gentlemen! They were the type who would hold the door open for you and the like. They were very nice.

Now one night on the Paris dance floor, some creep grabbed me on, uh {blush} the left boob. :( This was not a back hand "cop a feel" but a very overt "honk" and I did NOT like it. The floor was very crowded and whoever it was vanished. I told security ("did you get a good look at him?") but there was no way I could identify the jerk so I ended up not filing a report. They said they would keep an eye on the dance floor in case he tried it again, but I'm sure he was long gone. :(

These seem to get fewer as the years go on. Last one I remember was at the Rio, and that was only very late at night.

The Stardust was the only one I ever saw where they actually verified that the key was current and valid. They had a "suit" type security guy with a card reading machine at the podium and he would swipe each key card to be sure it was good. All others you just flashed your card, which could be an expired one or one somebody picked up from the trash!

One thing that REALLY creeps me out is being followed! My guard goes up whenever I'm like on an elevator with a solo guy. Sometimes if it looks like it's going to be just me and some single guy on the elevator I'll just walk off and come back. I've also got in the habit of NOT being the first person in the elevator to push the floor button. Yeah, I know it's silly but when you think of it, an elevator is probably the worst place there is where you're vulnerable and an otherwise deserted hotel hallway is not much better!

I typically have one solo-trip a year...and, like this year, it's usually in the heat of summer when most of my Vegas friends won't go... (but no sense in wasting the summertime period...that's my policy!)
Solo trips are different, but still fun (assuming you like to gamble a lot)...I play table games & never have any trouble socializing with fellow players at the tables... I can't speak to how that works with slot-players, but I would imagine it's similar. As for 5 nights? Well, I don't think it would still be fun for me after that long...my solo trips are always 2 or 3 nights... and after 3 nights solo, I'm always ready to head home.

I'm sure it's quite different for a guy on a solo trip...it's been many years since random women have tried to pick me up, so I don't have that "worry", and we aren't "targeted" by unsavory elements nearly as often as women are. While you're out & about, I would simply suggest that you stroll-along near other groups of men with women who are going the same direction... just as a precautionary measure... but that would be my advice to any un-escorted female walking at night in any city. (I'm 'old fashioned' that way).

Hugo's is quite nice & I think you'll enjoy it - but with all of the higher-end food options you have available on the strip, I don't think I'd recommend a trip downtown just for that... now, if you're going downtown anyway - then sure - good food in a fairly 'formal' (for downtown) setting. Vic & Anthony's (at the Nugget) is also quite good.
    Have fun!

Most of my trips are solo (wife hates Vegas). Vegas is the one place where you can feel comfortable going solo. Plenty of gambling available, eat at the bar, meet new people. Good luck!

I go solo every trip. Love the freedom to march to my own drumbeat. As far as eating goes I like to grab a paper and read it at the bar of a restaurant or at the buffet for breakfast.

It's fun to meet up with fellow VMBers if you can. I'm going in July and I'm really looking forward to meeting a couple of VMB amigos for some drinks and gambling.

Get a VMB wristband and fly the flag. I've come across a couple of people from VMB this way, totally by chance, and it's always been fun.

As far as safety goes I'll echo what's been said by other posters; stay with the crowds when walking the strip or downtown, secure your purse and keep it closed and restrict your late night drinking to where you're staying. If you ever feel uncomfortable going to your room security guards are more than happy to escort you.

Have a great trip and let us know how it goes!!!

I'd love to take a solo trip, but probably never will. I am quite envious.

I've done portions of some trips solo. As far as eating goes, always go with eating at the bar. Plus, it's easy to strike up a conversation with others sitting there. My fall football trip is shaping up to be solo and I'm excited for it. Plus in August, you'll have the pool which Ive found to be a great place to hangout when solo. Vegas is friendly, you'll find lots of people to talk to. Just mind your surroundings and trust your instincts, like any other city.

Post in the "Vegas Get Togethers" as you can meet with like minded folks and still able to set out on your own to do what you want or linger with the group.
