Just got back from Vegas, trip #12. Looking at trip #13 in January, but need something on a smaller budget in between. I get comp nights at Harrahs New Orleans, have always wanted to check out the city and go to a Saints game. I've heard nothing but good things about the city from friends that have gone to drink, party and take in the culture.

How is hotel? Are there any CET diamond member perks for here? If I low-play on this trip, will it effect my vegas offers or just my future New Orleans offers. Anything else I should know?

Also, any hidden gems in New Orleans I must check out??

    Any help is appreciated

depends when you are coming in, something is always going on...low play will hurt future nola offers but not much..the hotel is nice, darryl from 7* insider said its his favorite next to caesars palace

what you should see and do will be up to what you like...give us some more info and we can point you the right way

the hotel has no pool or spa but they partner with many hotels close by which you can use. rooms are nice, separate shower and tub, non Jacuzzi, need a hotel key to work the elevator or hop in with someone who has one. try for a junior suite, thats the true name but they dont acknowledge it and call them suites. separate room, some sofas fold out into a bed, 2 flat screens, refridge, ect

diamond, gets #1 off on some meals, separate lines, free valet and self park, entrance into masquerade some times if they have an event they are charging for and access to the diamond lounge where you get limited food/drink for you and 1 guest, extra guest youll need to go to vip and get a pass...

heres a few pictures, its a nice size casino

    newer corner suite

Great questions OP as I am curious myself. I am seven stars and want to maximize my benefits but visiting other places, including NO. Haven't be there in many years. Thanks NoStress and NewOrleansSlim for the responses. Very helpful.

Thanks for the responses. I'm pretty sold on going. I'm still a little worried that underplaying will somehow effect my Vegas offers but at the same time I have a good relationship with my host and he knows my Vegas history so I really don't know what I'm worried about. My buddy who spends a lot less than I do in Vegas also has comp nights in NO so it doesn't appear to take much to get them. I love gambling but I also love sight seeing and doing new things. Not many downtown locations in North America where I can get a free hotel, I'd be stupid to not take advantage!

Love NO and this casino - eat some chargrilled oysters at Dragos in the hilton right by the casino - definitely go to WW2 museum and check out Frenchman street for some good jazz clubs

I've priced out potential trips there but never booked one. Just keep in mind that Harrah's hotel itself is small compared to Vegas hotels, only 450 rooms, so pricing on weekends is very high and premium rooms can be hard to get.

certain times, the rooms do get expensive but rarely and only when I tried late the day of to get one was I denied, book a few weeks or months out and shouldnt be an issue...my friends wife, she will tell her host right out, if I come in, i want a suite, the ones i posted pics of, she tells them if you dont im not coming in...if they cant get you in harrahs which shouldnt be an issue, as i stated before they partner with many hotels in the area

one thing to remember is transportation, you will land two cities over in kenner, La...not far at all, about a 15 minute ride to the hotel, about $25 cab ride before tip

most stuff is within walking distance, we have uber, lyft, pedicabs, regular cabs, horse carriages, motorized 3wheeel rental scooters sight-seeing buses, and street cars if you dont rent a vehicle yourself...again all depends on when you come in and what you want to see

me personally, I think its great just to hop on the street car and and ride it down canal and back and then all the way down st. charles to river, even have one that runs down the river near the hotel

the WW2 museum has again expanded just recently

CET gave me a free flight, airport transfer, and room offer for my wife and I once. I had played there before during a previous NOLA trip. I played a decent amount, won, and haven't gotten another offer from NOLA since. I can get rooms at their partner properties, but just not Harrah's now. The rooms are very nice. The great thing is, when you need a break from gambling, there's all this great food around you, and in general, a great place to be. Book it! Drago's is a good suggestion. There's the beignet place too...Cafe Du Monde. For fried chicken we enjoyed Willie's Chicken Shack.

There is one other place on bourbon street, but I have no idea what the name is. We stopped in to eat dinner while going down bourbon. We just said, "Let's eat here," and it was good! Point being, for the most part, you can't go wrong.

My comp at Harrah's NOLA begins tomorrow afternoon (June 2-5). The hotel is really nice, and I've never even gotten to stay in one of the corner suites depicted. Standard rooms are comfortable, by which I mean: nice beds, a foyer area so you're further away from hallway noise, and drapes that keep out a lot of light. Another nice aspect is the Fulton Street area that's behind the hotel, going away from the Quarter and Central Business District. That gives you a chance to hang out without being quite so immersed in the hustle and bustle, etc. The only downside I can see is, the casino is a touch bland. They don't seem to have quite as many of the newest slots, and it's kind of a "down the middle" property in terms of standard issue games that aren't quite as adventurous as the best Vegas casinos.

All in all, I really love Harrah's New Orleans, and I'm looking forward to being there on Thursday afternoon.

Hey CJ, if you do go you should checkout Central Grocer for their Muffalata Sandwiches as well as Cafe Du Monde for their Beignets.
    This is an incredible city.

    Enjoy and Good Luck!

Willies Chicken Shack is awesome for a quick bite. And their frozen drinks pack quite a punch as well!

And if you want a great breakfast some day, walk over the Ruby Slipper (just a few blocks from Harrahs). I'm getting hungry now just thinking about the place!

I adore New Orleans and the casino is very nice. Have not stayed in the hotel but I love that this casino is smoke free, which is really different these days. It does not have the variety of table games Vegas has and I have never won in the casino, but I always think it's clean and a nice place to play. :)

AND some nice sexy thunderstorms rollin' in. ;-)

But seriously, though, thanks for the offer to stop by had you been in town, and I hope it's a killer weekend in Vegas.

The Fulton Street entertainment district has been mentioned but I am going to second that recommendation. It is literally right outside the door of Harrah's hotel. Two of my favorite spots on Fulton are Manning's (Archie, Peyton, and Eli ) and Ernst Cafe. Gordon Birsch is another place if you want to watch some sports outside the casino. We somehow lucked into one of those corner suites (we had booked a regular room) about a month ago. They are really nice. I love Harrah's N.O. and hope that y'all have a great time.

I haven't been there personally, but I feel the need to reiterate KimiCoconuts point. The casino is NON-smoking!!!

That's great news for me, but not for everyone.
