Kind of a fun read, mentions places like Aliante', Rampart, Primm Valley Resorts......nothing really ground breaking but I always read Vegas articles when I see them on non Vegas sites. Mostly fact checking as VMB is where the experts are

more than a couple of those I haven't checked out yet - they'll go on "The List"... I agree about the Tropicana - it's a nice place but it being the only non-MLife resort on that intersection might hurt it a bit. I never gamble for comps but as long as I do gamble I want whatever comps I earn so I would play in MGM, Excalibur or NYNY before I would at the Trop...

 

I had only heard in passing of the Rampart and not sure where or when ........kind of thought it was like the Monteceito, a name for a fictitious casino from a teevee show or movie.

 

Thanks for sharing this - some really nice tidbits if we ever get off the strip again - we used to rent a car and try a few of the locals but haven't done it in years, maybe time to give it a go.

BTW - in the Barley's @ Henderson writeup I noticed this: Plus, you can take a growler home with you. Just don't open it in the car.
What is a growler????

 

......a growler is a "to go" container for tap beer.

Usually 64 ounces, they used to be almost always glass but stainless steel units are making a strong entry in the market. Generally the beer will stay fresh for three or so days in the frij. I have no idea whether that is true or not, in my house it's usually gone that night

 

If I'm not mistaken it was the name of the casino Katherine Willows from CSI Las Vegas inherited from her father.

My VAST experience w/ Growlers ?
If you open it.........finish it.
It won't be the same, the next day after opening.
If you don't open + refrigerate --- 3 days will keep.
I think I've left them even longer -- it got pushed to the back of the frig
and I forgot about it.......not sure if that was a week ?...or not ?....it was fine.

I haven't used a stainless steel , yet --- sounds okay.
but have slipped + busted some glass ones, in the sink, while rinsing.

I see many locals take home a growler of Ellis Island's root beer.

 

I enjoy good root beer......the non alcohol type. Haven't had the boozey kind yet, which kind is Ellis Islands, do you know ?

I haven't been in Eliis Island since my last stay at Bally's, and that was before that street vendor mall started to go in.

I would bet at Bally's Book, grab a drink, walk over to Ellis Island out Bally's back door for ribs, beer, and VP. I enjoyed EI and would have probably spent way more time but it was a bit smokey after a bit for me.

Real brewed root beer floats are one of my all time favorite treats. Wonder how a boozey one would taste ? Guessing that might not be quite the same flavor with the alcohol bite.

There are a lot of real sleepers in Las Vegas. Those I know of and have enjoyed on occation are things like the original Arizona Charlies on Decatur (drink service can best be said to be a DUI summons just waiting to happen), the original Cannery way up nawth, Jerry's Nugget (iffy area but killer prime rib in the cafe), Aliante (now Boyd, classy but waaayyyyy out in the toolies!) and a few others I'll think of just after I hit POST.

I've been to Rampart once, and I think it was known as something else back then. At the time, IIRC, it was the only casino in the area without a big lit sign out on the street. LOL, never been back, no real reason to go.
