I watched Victor Frankenstein a few nights ago and really liked it. And I don't like horror movies. The cinematography was great and the two leading men were wonderful. I don't even remember seeing any trailers for it or it even being released. I checked the reviews and they were not good. It is amazing to me what films get good reviews from the "critics".

On the other side of the coin, I did not like Birdman. It won the Oscar for best picture last year. I kept waiting for it to get good. Scarface only gets two stars on my TV guide but it's a great movie.

Spotlight didn't tear up the box office but was perfectly executed. The acting was superb and they let the story evolve instead of twisting it with Hollywood fluff. Excellent movie. Also check out A Most Wanted Man. Philip Seymour Hoffman's final film. Dark international espionage film that again wasn't destroyed by Hollywood, especially rare for the breed. PSH was great.

I looked at the preview after you mentioned this and decided to rent it. I thought it was pretty good. Thanks!

Stumbled upon One Hundred Foot Journey the other night on Showtime. Cute, entertaining film. Just our opinion, I don't dare to pretend I'm any kind of critic, so take my free review for what you paid.

"Snowpiercer" starring that guy who is also Thor is a really good sci-fi type action/drama film (one of the best I've seen in a couple years, actually) that didn't get widely released due to a dispute between the director and distribution company or something. Showtime plays it every once in a while. Also it's on Netflix.

No Snowpiercer stars the guy that is also Captain America, Chris Evans. It was critically acclaimed and it was a shame it got overlooked at the Oscars.

For me, its been a good while since I've seen something that fits the OP's criteria. But it used to be I found movies like that all the time.

Watched A Walk in the Woods last night. I loved the book the movie was awful. Thankfully it was free on Amazon Prime-- Robert Redford should be ashamed for ruining that book.

I just saw a Film titled Ashby on Netflix, maybe a little predictable, but it starred Mickey Rourke. High School nerd wants to play wide receiver on the football team and his next door neighbor (Rourke) helps him with advice since the kid's father is not involved in his life.

A few years ago a film titled The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel was released, it wasn't a big box office hit, but a cute film. I also just watched Bernie with Jack Black and Shirley MacLaine, it was based on a true story.

As for Birdman, I kind of liked it, sort of drew me in, the long shots and camera work were incredible.

The movie with Marilyn Monroe 'Niagra". It has been showing on t.v. cable. I have watched it 3 times just to see the Niagra water falls. Plus, the movie takes place in the 1950's or 1960'S. I visited Niagra falls 5 yrs. ago on the Canadian side. I could have gone across to the American side but I was too lazy to walk across to see the American side. Marilyn looked so beautiful. Not a great actress. Joseph Cotton was her co-star.

Another movie named 'VIBES" with Jeff Goldblum and Cindy Lauper was an ACTION, Adventure movie. The lousy title ruined the movie.
They should have given it an action type title. It was a super adventurous movie. It is an old 1980's movie when Jeff was younger.

Ever so often, I go on a movie binge. I have a penchant for obscure films that didn't get much airtime or I didn't see advertisements. My favorite genres are thrillers and mysteries, but I mix a few dramas and comedies in. Some of the titles below are excellent films, off the beaten path.

So . . . with all that said, I have binged on the following movies in the past 8 months. I've placed my star rating next to each (4 to 1 = good to bad):

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel - ****
    Quartet - ****
    Hope Springs - **
    Enough Said - ****
    Behind The Candelabra - **
    The Best Offer - ****
    At Middleton - ***
The Grand Budapest Hotel - ****
    5 Flights Up - ***
The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel - **
I'll See You In My Dreams - ***
    Burnt - ***
    Fair Game - ****
    Calendar Girls - ***
    The Ghost Writer - ****

I agree. I stumbled across the 4 hour version a few years ago at a Best Buy store and bought it. I had previously rented the 2 hour and liked it.

We watched this film during my Wife's and I annual trip to Vegas. We agreed to go to one movie I wanted to watch and then go to one she wanted to watch.

One Hundred Foot Journey is the one she wanted to watch. I'm pretty sure this is one of the movies that didn't do too well at the theatres.

I'm not going to offer a review. My Wife might read this...:poke:

I chose "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" or something like that, the new version that came out. I'm not sure if it did well at the theatres or not, but I can say I didn't like it either, lol!!:faint::beer:
