Life as a local

I made a quick trip out to Vegas last week and spent much of it like a local. Most of my recent trips have been with my wife and other couples, or with my work buddies, drinking pool-side during the day, buffet in the early, followed by more drinking at bars and clubs at night. However, this time I went solo and stayed with my ex-wife who lives about 20 miles northwest of my usual Strip comfort zone. Hold on! Since our divorce in '92 she and I have had a friendly, platonic relationship. She has since re-married, has a little girl, and deals blackjack at Harrah's. She knew that I badly needed a get-a-way. On June 9th 2005, Stacy, my wife of the past eleven years, passed away from a dibetic complication. It is the most difficult thing I have ever had to deal with. My ex offered to let me stay at her place if I came out, so I accepted. (Stacy and my ex knew each other and got along well.)
Anywho, Southwest from K.C., $196.00. Much better than the $278.00 I paid in April '05. Picked up my luxurious Taurus at Dollar and headed to NyNy, for a pastrami sandwhich at Greenberg's. Alwasy good! Then strolled through the casino and spotted the Wheel of Fortune slot that Stacy liked to play. I put in ten bucks, got to spin the big wheel, and hit for a hundred bucks! Nice.
Got the car and pointed it northwest to the 'burbs. Highway 95 at 4:00pm sucks! Over the next three days I only gambled about 45 min. (Sunset Coast) slots, v.p. and roulette. Made about $400.00 dollars. The rest of the trip was spent reminiscing, shopping, eating, driving to Primm, and taking my ex's little girl to school.

A few Vegas firsts firsts for me -
My first fish taco at my first Baja Fresh (Texas Star Lane). I liked it!
My first meal at Pf Changs. (Rampart Blvd) I liked it!
No newdy clubs.
More shopping than gambling.
Visited a library
No Strip buffet.
Not one adult beverage.

The annual May guys trip is already in the pre-pre-planning stages. I know that trip will filled with all the debauchery that makes Vegas fun. This trip was relaxing, but a little somber.

I'm sorry to read of your wife's passing. That really would be difficult.

Sounds like a good trip, though. A relaxing trip to Vegas is a rare and beautiful thing. You did very well considering the circumstances.
