Gonna do a downtown LVA coupon run on the solo part of my upcoming trip. Mrs. Ram will be joining me after I've been there several days due to work commitments. I plan on spending most of a day down there gambling and having lunch and dinner. I'm looking for recommendations on high quality places to eat but not high end places like Andiamo's or Oscar's. I do not mind walking to Fremont East or the Container park if that's best. I eat all types of cuisines and want to avoid chain places.

Initially, I'm thinking Pizza Rock for lunch and am open for dinner. Any recommendations?

Can't go wrong with Redwood, inside Cal or Second St, inside Fremont. Reservations strongly suggested.

Pizza Rock is good. An alternative for pizza is Chicago Brewing Co, upstairs at 4Q.

I stayed at El Cortez last weekend. I also tried Siegel, and had the Chicken Parmigiana. I liked it a lot. The price was around $14 I think. Definitely recommend the place.

If you like Thai food, Le Thai, across from El Cortez, is very good. We also liked Therapy, a gastropub with a good beer selection and some nice small plates.

I like Triple 7 Grill at MSS, particularly for happy hour. Also, agree with your choice of Pizza Rock, for happy hour. Triple George is also very good for a little more upscale, but not at the level of Andiamo.

Thanks for the tips. I am thinking about Le Thai and Carson Kitchen after looking over the reviews.

+1 for Le Thai.... Very good food, reasonably priced. Dinner for two with apps and a drink each was around $70 with tip.

777 Pub at MSS has a nice variety of food and some good home brew. Worth checking out!

Really enjoyed Triple George Grill. The dark woods give it a rich feel. The booths are private and the service was top notch.

If you don't mind getting down and dirty, we love sitting at the Chicago Brewing Comp. bar with a deep dish pizza and 22 ounce comped All Nighter while playing vp. If that's too messy for ya, plenty of tables scattered around, but you'll pay for the beer. Menu can be seen at 4 Queens web site.
Also like Triple 7 Restaurant and Brewery at Main Street Station. They also have a sushi bar.

Since you're going casual with pizza for lunch, how about a nice sit-down dinner at Andiamo at the D...... You can actually eat there on a budget at $50 per person or go all out for $250 per person. Without a doubt, one of the best restaurants downtown.
