I stayed at the Mirage this week and saw that the quarter progressive Jacks or Better by Carnegie Deli was downgraded from 8/5 (97.3%) to 6/5 (95.0%). (Percentages exclude the effect of the progressive.) It was already too low a percentage to be reported on vpFREE2.

Although it had a less than 98% return at 8/5, I used to like playing there and this was to be my go-to game after they downgraded the Luxor game from 9/5 to 7/5.

Happily I did find one machine with a decent return, an All-Star Poker II machine that had 7/5 Bonus Poker for quarters with Super Times Pay (98.29%). It's right on the aisle, about halfway between the red phone booth and Carnegie Deli.

Yea, VP on the strip is tough nowadays. I find the best returns to be in the high limit rooms, but there you're paying $25 a hand minimum. Sometimes it gets a little too rich :/

Only decent video poker on the strip is the bank of quarter machines just inside the door at Cromwell. 9/6 Jacks, 8/5 Bonus and a couple other 99%+ games.

Why would a serious gambler continue to look to the Strip casinos to do their gambling? Isn't it clear that the Strip casinos now exist for the people who will spend any amount of money to be entertained, regardless of the ROI?

    exactly.
the Strip is becoming solely for the "recreational" gambler.

Not completely true saying the strip is only for the recreational gambler that doesn't care about good rules. Actually, the best blackjack anywhere in Vegas is on the strip, albeit at higher minimums. Some even as low as $25 per hand. Now for slots and video poker, that may be another story.

I now play all my VP off-Strip at the Palms, M or South Point. The Strip VP is basically a slot machine. But it is profitable for the casinos; the new Vegas visitor just wants to have fun; house advantage analysis and game study is not in their DNA.

Slot machines on the strip are still a lot worse than VP. It's not difficult to find quarter VP with a house edge of 3% or less on the strip. Most slots however will be over 10%.

Thanks to reading tringlomane's posts over the years I decided to focus on Super Times games with my VP play this last Mar-Apr trip and spent some time on that machine at the Mirage on the aisle. I hit $2000 on the dime denomination at 10 play with 4 aces, as well as a $500 win and a $300. I also went to the other side of that bank and hit the Double Super Times for $1100. Tringlomane has changed my gambling world. I just wish the Mirage had more Super Times choices than that. That's why I plan on staying at the Aria next time.

    Glad I could help!

And quarter 7/5 Bonus w/STP is pretty good for Mirage. But yeah, Aria is still better. But Aria doesn't have tons of Double STP though either, fyi. Only 2 stand-alone games. 5 Regular STP games. Not sure what its availability on All Star IIs are.

Yeah, we stopped in to eat at Carbone at the Aria and saw that and spent about an hour worshiping at the foot of BJ's Memorial. It's a better option than the Mirage, though. I took my 21 year old daughter on that trip and because the Mirage only had one STP machine we couldn't play STP together. So at least at Aria we'll have that option this July.

I'm curious, in case I don't get a decent offer from Aria, how many STP and DSTP does Bellagio have?

I figured that in general 50-play and 100-play games have much better conditions than their denom dictates. In other words, for example, a 5c 100 play VP game has almost same paytable with a 50c or a $1 denom. I think they make this because most people play 50-100 play games at around max bet levels. But if you only play 1 game, then you can be at an advantage for the denom you are playing.

I saw no limitations to number of games except at Cosmo 100 play game at 1c, you had to play a minimum of 10 hands. But Aria's 5c machine and Mirage's 2c machine were all playable at 1 hand level.

So I'm guessing, instead of playing regular $5 VP, you can check out 25c 100 play VP and it's likely that you can get the same paytable.

Not much just 2 standalone STP. STP is also available along the interior of the sportsbook bar on the Superstar VP games

Generally speaking, 50/100 plays at the dime level and lower aren't much better paytables than 3/5/10 play.

I found this at Mandalay Bay during my last trip. Playing a $0.25 50-play machine with just 1 play netted me a better paytable than regular 1 play $0.25.

Thank you very much for sharing info with us. According to VPFREE2, these VP machines at Cromwell require $50 coin-in to give you just 1 point.

You couldn't be more wrong. The vast majority of "serious" gamblers play on the strip. Downtown's gaming revenue is a fraction of the strip's. Ditto for offstrip.

Not to mention the major players... Not even talking whales, but your $500- $1000/ hand blackjack players aren't exactly salivating at the thought of the Plaza or Sunset Station.

Players at that level are everywhere at the Wynn/ Encore/ Venetian/ Palazzo/ Bellagio/ Aria etc

Right. If you have significant comps with CET, it may be in your best interest to not even play with your card on these games, especially if you have yet to trigger a gaming day. Not worth ruining ADT over for sure.

Great advice! I am planning on stopping here tomorrow, but don't have a lot of time to play. I am glad you mentioned this.

These aren't STP, but there are two spin poker games together right outside the restroom near the Bellagio buffet that have quarter 8/5 (99.17%) Bonus Poker.
