    My Trip Report

This trip was with my son, 31 and myself. Time together was awesome!!

He wanted to go because he follows UFC fighting and wanted to see the weigh ins at MGM and bet on the fights, then see them at El Cortez.
Perfect excuse for me to go!

Allegiant flight out of Cincinnati, on time there and back, and we lucked out with a seat between us on the way there, shew!

Staying at Downtown Grand this time, only because I could get two rooms comped without ever playing there!

I have to say, it was pretty dead there except for Saterday night. Small casino, not a lot of options for gaming, and tables not open
    until mid day.

All the staff were great though, and rooms were adequate. Noise from bands were bad at night, not sure if that came from Freemont or Hogs and Heffers bar?

Smart enough to pack a big fan which saved my sleep!

Saw many characters downtown. Elvis playing with his zipper for a full minute while waiting for the walk signal to cross the street was a puzzler?

I hated the number of beggars downtown, and the time share people. It was several times approached to walk the block everyday. I finally told them we were leaving that day, everyday.

The beauty store guys that try to hand you a sample are the worst!!! Once you take the sample, they all say, "Let me get you an eye cream sample"
and try to pull you into the store, where they initiate putting creams on you and hard selling their products.

I learned years ago to say NO and mean it! This time, the guy's reply was "So you don't care about wrinkles?" I replied, "So you don't care that you make a living by pushing people and hard selling and then insulting them?" While I walked off. Grrrrr!!!

We had a blast walking from casino to casino, and the fact they aren't so far apart as the strip. I have done the strip 20 times and fell in love with the less walking and laid back feel of downtown.

First stop was using the traditional 50 dollar matchplay in the Allegiant magazine on the plane for Golden Gate. We both won again on red roulette and cashed out. Love that!

Had ACG coupons left over from the last trip, tried the Freemont dinner buffet, it was average but cheap.

Magnolia's in 4 Queens 2 for 1 is always a good bargain and great food!

No luck on slots much this trip, nor tables, but it was fun playing and my son ordered drinks and loved that they were free with tipping only!

He didn't gamble on slots, he only came to bet on the fights, and has a good savings, so decided to bet some on the fights and see where it took him.

Took the bus to MGM and I knew it was going to be a ton of walking, but trudged through for my son, he was so excited to get to see the weigh ins of his favorite fighters.

Had the myvegas 2 for 1 buffet Friday night, it was excellent! We walked right up with no wait, as we went early. Highly recommend it!

Saterday he watched me play slots, my first royal on the five play poker machine that randomly gives you 1 to 10 times multiplier, and got down to my last credits so downed my bet from 18 to 3 per line. Sigh,, but it was still fun! Soon after, with 18 quarters bet, hit four aces for 200 bucks, loved that!

Saterday night, the only place that had a fight viewing was El Cortez. The walk there was sketchy at best, but we made it. My first time there and it was dirty, smelly, and I was not impressed. We passed used needles and empty heroin packets on the walk there, and I was thankful my son is 6 " 5, and there were a few others walking nearby.

It costs 10 bucks to view the fight, and the old room has three large screens to view the pay per view fights. My son was beside himself, he had bet on several fights, and some risky parlays.

He was biting his fingernails as one of his underdogs won, eight in a row he won! The final fight Jones won, and he had a big bet on him, he was estatic!!!

His handicapping UFC fights is a ten year experience, though he rarely bets, he does keep ledgers of what he would bet for learning.

He ended up after all expenses for the trip, gifts for his son and wife, going home with an extra 565 dollars!!! Woohoo!

Last night after the fight, he surprised me by risking 100 of his winnings on real gambling. He put ten dollars on ten numbers on roulette, and booom, he hit!!! I was like everything he touched was gold!I did the same with mine, but of course, you know the story... sigh..

Wish his mom could say the same, but my bankroll of 1800 for the four day trip only netted me 300 to come home with.

I couldn't care less, the laughter, the gambling, sights, and time together was a memory ingrained for both of us and so thankful to have had the experience.

It's funny when you get home tired, you relive the trip and wish you could go back tomorrow!

So it's back to saving for the next trip which I hope will be late fall or early winter. Somehow, having to save for it and the anticipation and waiting makes us appreciate it.

Until the next time, hoping everyone has a great trip to Vegas!!!

Thanks for sharing your trip report! Glad you and your son had a great time. Sorry you didn't do too well gambling wise, hopefully next trip will be better!

I've never encountered time-share people under the canopy. Whereabouts was this so I can avoid them?

They were at the entrance to 4 Queens and in the street between there and Golden Gate. Not much place to miss them, but when they asked if we were married, we said no, our spouses are at home, they left us alone.

So use that or the "Im leaving in the morning" and it works quick!haha

Nice report. Glad your son did well betting the fights. Sometimes betting on sports is better than dumping tons of money into the dreaded machines. LOL Sorry you had to deal with all these beggars while trying to enjoy yourselves. Wish they could somehow clean these things up, so people who are on vacation can have a good time!!

We walked the street behind Freemont from the Grand, it went past the Ogden Condos. Believe me, that was scary at night.
If I were to go there again, would definitely stay on Freemont Street to head there!
