When I watch "Cops", North Las Vegas never seems to be a good place to be. The website for Aliante looks cool. Anyone been there?

I love watching "Cops" and "Jail - Vegas" and a lot of the clips are from North Vegas for sure. I haven't been there, but believe it was a Stations Casino until bankruptcy in 2011.

Explained in article. Yes, was stations originally. Love Boyds properties. And rumored to be buying Cannery (no mention of Eastside Cannery).

We moved to Vegas the year Aliante opened and it was only 4 miles from our house. We tried to make it our favorite casino, but the place had no vibe and was usually dead inside. Except for closing Stardust, Boyd usually has good judgement, but I just don't see how they are going to attract people out there. It is a long way from anywhere.

Yes, The NLV you are referring to is quite different than Aliante.

I drove by that casino in December. Wow. it is way up on the far, far north end, beyond that is a bunch of kitty litter and Area 51. The VA Hospital is the other huge complex up there.

Not sure why Boyd bought it. Does not seem like what they are about.

I did not stop in, I was just amazed it was there.

Yes. If you're out in the area it's a great place to stop. Nothing to make a special trip for tho.

I got a nice offer from them and stayed there during March Madness. It is a very nice place a long way from anything else. Decent restaurants and an excellent buffet. Easy comps from pit critters from playing BJ and UTH. Nice selection of new slots as well. Kind of bummed about the Boyd takeover because it might negatively impact good offers for a low level table player like myself.

How far is a "long way"? Could I reach it without taking the freeway and just use surface roads? I hate taking the freeway. I wouldn't mind visiting since it's now Boyd owned. We usually rent a car when me and my Wife visit Vegas.

10 miles and 25 minutes from downtown using surface streets. Further using interstate, but less time.

It's probably half an hour from D/T. I like their golf course .... maybe Boyd Gaming will have some 'stay and play' offers .....

We drove out there from Sams Town a couple of trips ago. We went out Lamb as far as you can go and then up the Beltway until you see it. It's very obvious. Maybe 1/2 hour drive time.

Thanks everyone. Doesn't seem to be that bad of a drive.

The original plan for Aliante and casinos like it (ie. South Coast) was to be the neighborhood casino for the big housing developments coming up nearby. I don't know the in's and out's of what's going on with the housing market near Aliante. But I was that area in October and saw lots of new retail in the area. My guess is that they just need to get the locals in the local neighborhoods to make it work. I doubt they are worried about driving in out of town tourists to it but I would be happy to check it out once the deal is finalized. I've always had the impression that it was a lovely property that needed the right had to run it.

    Oh really!

I wonder how that will work with Sams Town just one (long) block away from the Eastside Cannery?

Yes, you can take surface roads, although US 95 is faster. We have played golf there a couple of times (not a bad course) and stopped into casino post round. About half an hour from Gold Coast/Orleans.

I liked Aliante, but as noted, it is a hike out there, and nothing else in the area. It reminds me of Red Rock or Green Valley Ranch. I have only been there once, and that was right after it opened. It seems like kind of a weird fit for a Boyd property. More upscale than any of its other properties in Vegas, at least it felt like it to me. The Eastside Cannery deal seems more fitting, and will get some of my business. I have always wanted to stay there, and might give it a shot on my next trip. Since I am traveling alone, and just to relax by a pool and play some VP, I might even try Aliante, although the Cannery has a couple close places if I get antsy.

Yes, Aliante was originally Aliante Station Casino, opened by Station Casinos. When Station sold it, they continued to operate the casino for the new owner for several years. Then 3 or 4 years ago, Station was gone completely and the name changed to Aliante Casino from Aliante Station.

I like the place. I've been going there since they opened. It's my early morning go-to casino every morning I'm in Vegas. Yeah, it's a bit of a drive - takes about a half hour to get there from the Strip.
